USA draws with France for the U20s. Honestly should have won, Luis Gil missed a PK. But that's how it goes. Beat Ghana and advance essentially.

Gold Cup 23 Man Roster

Interesting. No Besler or Gonzales anymore, so one can assume they are locks for world cup roster.

No Bocanegra either. I guess he is done. I like keeping Onyewu.

A bunch of young bloods I can't wait to see like McIerney and Diskerud.

FWIW, our path to the Gold Cup final is absolutely cake. No reason we shouldn't make it. Cuba and Belize are in our group along with Costa Rica for the group stage.

Very excited to see Joshua Gatt... kid can flat out BURN...

I have been wondering when he'd get a chance.

You've got to like this for Jurgen's system. You can leave Bradley and Jones as the holding midfielders. Bradley more responsible for linking play and getting forward a bit while Jones is more of a traditional destroyer, but he can also get forward. You keep Zusi on the right pinging in crosses for Jozy with Deuce in the hole behind him as a SS/CAM. Then Lando cutting in from the left and Fabian Johnson can play LB. It looks like our best option at this point.

ACamp: Very excited about Gatt, we need pace and technical ability in abundance for the USMNT.

I have a dream... a dream where one day little Joshua Gatt and little Mike Bradley play together in the same green hooped midfield... I have a dream today...

Agreed. Love what Gatt brings to the table. Give him a year or two and he will be in one of the top Euro leagues.

Sooo as of now, locks for our world cup roster appear to be:

Goalkeeper: Tim Howard, Brad Guzan

Defense: Fabian Johnson(IDK if this is the right place to put him, but I think its his best position), Matt Besler, Omar Gonzalez, Timmy Chandler

Midfield: Jermaine Jones, Michael Bradley, Graham Zusi, Clint Dempsey,

Forward: Jozy Altidore, Terrence Boyd(Maybe?), Eddie Johnson

Sooo I counted 13 locks with 10 spots for the taking. There are definitely some assumptions that could be made(Brek Shea, Danny Williams, even Donovan) but I don't think they are stone-cold locks.

Just flat crazy that Johnson would be considered a lock at this point, not saying he isn't... just damn, really?

Things done changed.

Guzan/Howard could be an interesting battle next year.

Rome to Celtic? Keep hoping brother.

Fabian? That's what I'm assuming. I think he's left a lot to be desired as a LM but he's a better LB. Hoffenheim played him at LM this year which kind of screwed us. He needs to be a LB for us, and Timmy Chandler at RB. In between Gonzalez and Besler, let them work the partnership this year so they are experienced for the WC next year.

If the money is the same Roma to Celtic is pretty much a lateral move... Roma has the league and slightly better team (which could be debated actually), Celtic has championships for the taking and Champions League spots each year...

I'd call that a push.

Anyway, just had to get that out there.

I can only assume it's because he has pace. There is no way he should be starting on our A team.

My point was it's been a crazy freaking resurrection there. Beasley also.

I don't think I'm being a homer in saying Celtic RIGHT NOW, (With being tied to Scottish level payrolls/income and such) is about on par with Fulham... to equate them to an English club.

To further the point I think Roma is about on par with Fulham also... meanign in a hypotheical if you were to interchange the teams the results within the three leagues would be about the same for any of the three... generally speaking of course.

I agree about the lateral move, since Celtic is the class of the Scottish league by a long way since Rangers imploded. I was commenting more on living in Glasgow in comparison to Rome, and the move to a lesser league. He won't get the same level of competition week in week out for his development. I'm actually sad that I mentioned anything, because I don't want to crap on your hopes and dreams.

I don't disagree with this... But he was left off the Gold Cup preliminary roster and he has been playing decent for us recently. Maybe it was wrong to call him a lock but I don't really see many people taking his spot. He will not start in the World Cup, but he will provide some servicable depth for us.

He's what we have in the striker department. **** Rossi.

I really wish I could watch Italy-Spain today. If I am lucky I will get home by 4:30 from work and get to watch most of the second half.

Spain getting worked right now. My fears about this team are being realized. Really poor in defensive midfield and in the back.

You miss Xabi Alonso, he makes a midfield go. He's not a DM so much but he plays deep, makes great passes, and breaks up play.

No doubt...huge hole in our line-up without him.

0-0 at the half. Iker playing out of his mind, plus some really suspect finishing by Italy are the only reasons it's scoreless. Spain with a couple of good chances as well, but both off the mark.

Also, LOL at the Brazilian fans, who have been booing and whistling the Spaniards all tourney whenever they string a couple of passes together. They HATE that style of futbol, unable to see the beauty and the intricacy of the passing and movement that allows the style to be so successful. There's LOTS of ways to play the game...not just the Brazilian way (which I enjoy as well). And when the Italians pass the ball back to the goalie or pass the ball around, they cheer lol.

Good on Italy though, as I have hated when they sit back all game and fail to attack consistently using their incredible attacking players that they have had through the years. They are still bunkering down once Spain gets the ball, but Italy gets it, they are moving forward with a real purpose. THIS is the team that kicked the crap out of Spain 2 years ago (ending in a lucky 1-1 tie for Spain).

I knew this would be a tough game. Gonna change our luck by going to the mancave to watch the 2nd half...
