I still can't believe it's happening.

Barcelona terminate Neymar's contract after accepted €222 million fee - ESPN FC

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Oh Neymar, there is only one direction to go from <a href="https://twitter.com/FCBarcelona">@FCBarcelona</a> and that's backwards.</p>— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) <a href="https://twitter.com/GaryLineker/status/892795020411097089">August 2, 2017</a></blockquote>

There's definitely some truth to it. I get that he has his reasons, including the opportunity to play with more Brazilians, I guess? But still.

the era of the super teams is dead now i reckon. you'll not longer see a situation where a player like neymar and messi co-exist on the same team.

Huh? I get maybe two players exactly like those two but like 75 percent of the worlds top talent is still clustered on just a hanfull or so teams... that's going to get worse before, and if, it ever gets better ....

what i mean is i cant see the likes of messi and neymar (2/3 best players in the world) co-existing on same teams anytime soon.

No offense, but that's such a gross football take.... Neymar flat out is NOT the 3rd best player in the world. I hate this jerk off contest of fans and media only declaring Forwards fall in the category of best players in the world. Maybe it's just the central midfielder in me, but I'm so sick of this Messi, CR, Neymar circle jerk.... mean while players like Modric, Kante, Verratti, Vidal, Cazorla, Hamsik get no love... It's an abomination those type of players aren't in the discussion.... Sorry for the rant

Just bought my tickets for NY Red Bulls @ FC Cincinnati on 8/15 in the Open Cup semifinal.

I used season ticket holder access, and the lower bowl at Nippert is pretty much sold out already, just from season ticket holders buying extras.

Nippert is probably gonna be sold out at 37k for this game.

He moves to play with inferior team-mates, in the continent’s fifth-strongest league, for a club that nobody took seriously until it was bought by Qatar six years ago. No great footballer has ever willingly accepted such a demotion for money, but Neymar is a player of unusually single-minded focus.

It's crazy, right? I was trying to think of an American sports analogy to explain this to a friend who doesn't follow soccer, and I really couldn't come up with one. Best I could do was, Suppose Bama is set for another great season, with three skill players who are all legit Heisman contenders, and then one of them, out of nowhere decides to transfer to Oregon ...

(Is that not enough of a step-down? Maybe I should have said Boise State. Either way, a move away from Bama is always a step down, just like a move from Barca.)

It really is hard to understand from a purely football perspective.

Oregon seems fair.

But this is a legit #1 receiver... stuck playing as the #2 receiver, and the #1 receiver's family moved to Tuscaloosa when he was like 10. And he's a 3 time AA... and a cross between Jerry Rice, Antonio Brown, and Jesus.

I can see why you might leave Barca. Neymar is a brand. Being "the guy" at a club like PSG is big. And the money he's going to make is unreal.

Robinson Cano left the Yankees to play for the frickin Mariners.

most football fans wouldn't see PSG as much of a club, they are basically Man City except they play in a totally irrelevant league. This move is 100% money driven in my mind, Neymar isn't the sharpest and he's a pawn in a huge money grab by his family and agents

A world where PSG isn't a big club is one where the, 'big club club' is very, very small...

God forbid. They aren't going to win every year. Monaco was a very good team.

Yup... I don't think it's fair to call Ligue 1 a one horse town either... Monaco, Lyon, Bordueaux, Marseille just for starters....

I get that's it's not Spain where two teams eat everyone else on the planet alive most years... but it's still a rather good league.

PSG has had a number of very good players play for them recently, I'm not really surprised by this move, I'm just not, as they are FAR from some po dunk team. Unless the standard you're using is that you have a group of like 3-4 'great' teams in the world and everyone else just sucks. PSG has been one of the top ten clubs in the world for a number of years now, I don't think that's really debatable... is it?

Right? There are the two Spanish giants.. then the next tier of high end clubs. PSG is definitely a member of that group.

Neymar will never come out from Messi's shadow at Barca. If he wants to do something special...PSG is a great opportunity. He's 25ish, he's not going to get much better than he is now. PSG loaded with Brazilians, located in a cool city, and he gets to be "the dude" for club now as well as country.

This Patrick Roberts drama tho...

I mean, why would we loan him to you again? If we end up loaning him at all, he's too good to go back to scotland, champions league or not. Much rather him go to Southampton, etc. Although if the reports are true that he asked to be loaned back to celtic, I'd almost like to see us sell him. That's just a lack of ambition at the end of the day.

I don't know what to tell you... sometimes it's real even without a bunch of oil money.

Anyway, from what I've heard city don't want to sell him as Celtic and other clubs were willing to buy, so it's basically loan or sit the bench... he then told City if you loan me, loan me back to Celtic. Not a hard decision to understand.

Espn reporting that Coutinho transfer is agreed.

If true, I hope Jurgen quits Pool and they miss top 4. Fucking owners are a joke. Selling a guy like Phil in August? Lmao this would be absurd.

Liverpool media has been pretty consistent in squashing these reports out of Spain. I won't believe it till the reports start coming from both ends.

Right, at best for Liverpool, this is a Suarez situation where we convince him to stay for one more year. And there's nothing wrong with that. Who wouldn't want to play for Barca someday and test yourself on the biggest stage at the highest level.
