He threw lawn darts at youth team players because he was bored. Yea he also does some great charitable work, but give me a ****ing break. You have to have a severe detachment to try to injure someone because you're bored.

Hey, if you're not fast enough to outrun a lawn dart, you shouldn't be playing soccer anyway.

He does do a lot of good. Still very young (still college age), so give the guy a chance. If 26 and still a head case, then I'll be calling for his head. Right now though,,,, GO ITALY. Hope he sinks 3 into the net, does cart wheels around pitch, then jumps into the stands and lays a big sloppy kiss on Shakira.

If this were a football player at Florida, with the same background (some of the kids at FL, Bama, LSU, USC, etc, have had WORSE childhoods...i.e. Michael Oher), would you be saying the same thing? Just look at any ND message board regarding another team's woes with player discipline. We KILL those kids and those programs. But w/ Balotelli, many fans on here give him a pass.

Some of that stuff, yeah, I can chalk that up to youth. But other things...well, he's just straight being a d*ck.

As far as his game - no doubt, he's a friggin' beast! And I enjoy watching him play. And SOMETIMES, I root for him to score just to shove it in the racists' faces (my fellow Spaniards have an embarrassing track record when it comes to racism - I am not proud!!!!).

But today - it's all about La Furia Roja!!!! Can't wait for the game! Spain going for a historic triple, Italy looking to add to their trophy case and win in a style never seen from them. I hope Italy continues their attacking ways so we can see an entertaining game!

Who thinks a) Torres starts b) Fabregas starts c) Negredo/Llorente starts d) other

I think Fabregas starts but I would like Pedro & Llorente to come on as subs earlier (assuming they need a goal post ~65 mins). Pedro's pace has given them a good spark and Llorente is one of the top headers in the world.

For the life of me I can't figure out why Pedro hasn't played more - why he didn't even play the first 3 games!!! I had to look up if he was injured or something.

If it were me, I go with El Nino. It's too late to experiment and go w/ Llorente, and Negredo added nothing in his start. Torres is the only forward who challenges the defense with pace, despite his lack of confidence and touch. So I'd still go with him because when he's in, Spain looks the most dangerous. Add Pedro to that and it's even better. We'll see.

I personally think he's going with the 4-6-0.

Eating dinner right outside Vatican City right now. Tons of people selling Italy jerseys, Italy flags, noisemakers, etc. can't wait for the game.

Have to go back to the Hotel in Pomezia outside Rome. Asked mey parents a thousand times if I could stay in Rome for the game and take a Taxi back with my cousin but they said No and that 16 was to young to be by yourself in a foreign country (total bullshit). Anyways there putting a huge projector screen up in the hotel to watch it.

Where you going tomorrow? I'm headed to the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain.

I'm so torn in this game.... I know, you're not allowed to be a fan of both Italy and Spain buttttttttt I've rooted for the Azzurri ever since we went to visit long lost relatives in Italy when I was 12.

And then I started rooting for Spain when I studied abroad there in college and got to go to a number of matches. We were actually abroad when USA beat Spain 2-0 in the Confederations Cup when they were chasing the all-time unbeaten streak in international play.... we pissed off a lot of Spaniards in the bar where we watched the game at LOL. The worst though was when two of my classmates wore Man U jerseys to go watch the Champion's League final between Barca and Man U on a big projector downtown.... thought we were going to get our asses beat. Luckily Barca won so they just got taunted mercilessly.

So I dunno.... I guess I'll pull for the underdog and Italy.... because that's my heritage and less-adopted European rooting interest.... and it'd be nice not to have a repeat..... but the quarters/semis were much, much easier to pick a team.

You're right...I'll believe a poster on IrishEnvy instead of multiple reports that I've read (just kidding...kinda).

Look im not going to argue with you what you've read. What you seem to not realize is that papers will write anything and use "unamed sources" to sell as many papers as they can, and get as many internet clicks as they can. I follow Manchester City religiously. Kompany, Hart, Lescott, Tevez, and Yaya Toure. The leaders of the team (excluding tevez) all came out and supported Ballotelli after his Arsenal nightmare. Please once again most football writers in England are United, Liverpool, and Arsenal fans. They hate Manchester City and everything they represent, change to the "old guard". They have made up countless stories about Manchester city over the past few years, some very hilarious I may add. You can believe what you want its your right, but its also my right to tell you you're misguided.

Yea, they are all United, Liverpool, and Arsenal fans...

Liverpool has been getting destroyed with PR since H&G; Wenger was crucified at the start of the campaign for their horrendous start, and Ferguson has a lot of sway with the F.A. but he's still destroyed when they go out of the Europa League. Yea, Man City is the only one who gets schtick. It's every club, the papers do it to everyone, they make up stories about every club, so please don't act like it's only Man City that gets it. You are not the only person who follows the PL religiously on this board.

I donno, Spain is almost at the point of Tebow's Florida for me. I just want to see some other team take over at this point. I would say Italy is done. They are best at defending and countering. throwing players forward to equalize from two goals down is going to open up waaaaay to much space for Spain on the counter. 4-6-0 the future?

Great capitalization by Spain on their chances. I'd say this match is likely over.

Man city may not be the only team, but they most certainly are the MOST scrutinized team by the English media anyone that follows the league at all knows this to be true. If you honestly follow the PL religiously then props to you, waking up for 12:30 English kickoffs(7:30-4:30 a.m in the states) on weekend mornings, and moving your schedule round for a midweek cup or league game shows true fandom. Im glad European football is catching on over here, and hopefully in a few years when the contract is up again ESPN will buy it and put games on ESPN & ESPN2 and ESPN3 every weekend. One can dream. But I stand by my earlier statement Most but not all English journos have allegiances to a "sky four" so they dont like the idea of Manchester City breaking the mold. As a fan of a sky four team I can see why you wouldn't agree.

Yea, try doing it in Alaska. And what about Chelsea before you? Statements like that are blind observations you most likely picked up on the official forums of your club. Chelsea did what Man City did already, so you can't say Man City is alone. What about Spurs as well? You're not unique. All you're doing is the same thing Chelsea has been doing since Roman took over; pouring petro dollars into and inflating the market for wages and transfers.

Game sucked! Historic for Spain, but what an @$$ whipping for my Italians.

Wouldn't one argue that Spurs were the first team to really threaten/break/finish in the top four? I'm not going to go look at the standings from four years ago, but I think Spurs were breaking in -- or at least closing in -- before the big bucks were spent. Money = Success in soccer.

Just from my point of view, a lot of the journalists just seem to love when a big team is doing badly, and love when a not-so-rich team is doing well. Look at Swansea from this past year. They were praised, rightfully so.

Arsene Wenger's head was being called for at the beginning of the season after the awful start. Talk about a rough time at Chelsea! Ask AVB how nice those journalists are.

None of the journalists are nice. They all love to hate in England. That's why the majority are tabloids. The Guardian's really good, if you're looking for quality coverage/journalism.

Completely agree the only site I read. I especially like the secret footballer. To your above points I agree English media is relentless when it comes to a coach being fired. AVB had a better record than Mancini did through the same amount of games in their first seasons when he got fired. Also, I would say the Arsene story was blown-up big because there isn't a lot of other big stories in the first few months of the season, and because he is a complete *** with the media. Just during the Euro's he told sky italia " why would RVP go to Juventus and play in Serie A There is no reason why a top player, a big champion would want a move to Serie A - in terms of the prestige of the league, the level of play or financial considerations." Seriously what an a$$.

An nice example of this "hatred" for Manchester City is Alan Hansen, a legend of English Football and a pundit for the BBC(predominantly known to be a Manchester United fans dream of a TV station) stated Ballotelli "hasn't achieved or done anything". This is absoluetly the dumbest statement I have ever heard from a sports t.v pundit. Ballotllei has individually won the: Golden Boy Award, and FA cup Final MOTM. Collectivelly as well he has already won: SERIE A three times, PL 1, FA cup 1, Italy cup 1, Italy super cup 1, and a UEFA champions leauge 1. He's 21 for crying out loud what more can he do. The only pundit on either Sky or BBC I can stand is ironically Gary Neville. He is great and should be coaching. The rest are either old Liverpool players who cant be partial at all, or complete jokes.

Italy deserved much better than the 4-0. The two injuries, were terrible luck, and they showed a lot of heart the entire game. But they were obviously tired as well and lacked the gas. The only thing I have issue with was Balotelli running into the tunnel after the game was over ( 21-year old with a lack of class and sportsmanship...yawn.. i know right.)

That being siad, The spaniards put on a display unlike I have never seen. The dismantling of the the Italy back line was ssoooooo impressive. If people do not take tha game and break it down pixel by pixel for a gleamaing of how to play the game, they are nuts. That was amazing to watch....

just my two cents. Much props for Italy. I did not have them making there in the first place.

Iniesta won player of the tournament, but it could just as easily have gone to Pirlo. Both were brilliant. Iniesta was the best player throughout the tournament on the best team (next to Casillas, who came up big when he had to). Pirlo was the best player on by far the most improved European team in the tournament.

I thought Xavi should have been MOTM in the final, and Alba played really well. Those two were excellent, the through ball to Alba for the second goal was genius. That said, which Spanish midfielder didn't play well?

As a parent of a youngin right now, 16 years old in a foreign country is too young to be by yourself. Listen to your parents. They have been there and done that. :)

As an I aside, I had my honeymoon in Italy. F'ing loved every minute of it...... and the italians were extremeely helpful. Totaly jealous right now....
