He deserves a right to earn a second chance. He doesn't deserve a second chance.
Oy - I can see this thread going downhill fast...
... Although its possible that he could play in the NFL this year, I dont think Goodell will reinstate him until next season
He deserves a right to earn a second chance. He doesn't deserve a second chance.
hes way more likely to do a right now after that wrong
Sure he does. He was fighting dogs for goodness sakes not raping or killing people. I love dogs I have a Jack Russell that is almost like a child to me but personally it doesn't bother me that people fight Pit Bulls or Roosters or any other kind of animal for that matter.
Not if he is a typical NFL player! I would be stuck working at McDonald's if I had his criminal record so he should be stuck doing the same...Arena League or which ever other 2nd rate pro league that will take him! He tortured animals!!! He did not steal something or get busted with drugs. Doing the things he did are reserved for the same pieces of crap that later abuse/murder humans. He commited a VERY serious crime and should be done in the NFL!!!!
Actually, Michael Vick possesses a very unique skill set that you and I simply don't possess. So yeah, you and I might have trouble finding a job, but someone witha unique set of skills can find jobs, and lucrative ones at that.
Here's an example: A computer hacker who cost a state millions of dollars because of his being able to hack into their system and ruin or steal things gets caught and does 3 years in jail. Well, if he was brilliant, that very same state or other businesses might hire him to help protect their systems, AFTER HE DID HIS TIME.
Now, I know hacking is nowhere near the goriness of killing innocent animals, so I get your argument. But in my mind, he paid his debt to society that a federal judge mandated, and he has every right to prove himself able to become a law abiding citizen. And like I said, normal ex-cons might have trouble finding work, but a person with Michael Vick's skills will not...

Michael Milken was banned by the SEC (not the football conference) for almost 100 counts of securities fraud. He did his time (2yrs out of his 10 year sentence) and is worth over $2 billion. His occupation today - financier.
William J. Clinton isn't a felon he only lied under Oath and was disbarred. He had no problem getting work, makes a tidy income, and gets invited to the White House regardless of which party's in power.
Martha Stewart ...
And somebody call the ASPCA to find a home for that Jack Russell terrier.

Both our Justice and Penal Systems are predicated on that concept.
Vick has a P.O. and 3 years of probation to go. He has a $10/hr construction job and is being monitored. Sounds like he's done his mandated time and is fulfilling the terms of his parole.
PETA complaining he's not contrite enough for them has no standing unless they're on his parole board. Then they'd need to recuse themselves for conflict of interest.
The nature of his crime isn't related to football and gambling ala Paul Hornung, Alex Karras , or Art Schlichter. He didn't have a Peter Rose problem. Hornung and Karras sat out a year.
Someone in the article noted they didn't like the company he kept in the past. Again that's up to his P.O. I would imagine ex-cons and bookies are off limits for him.
He's also back working with foundations for underprivileged kids.
In 1973 the Detroit Tigers signed a prospect to a contract. He was an inmate doing 5-15 for armed robbery in the Michigan Penal System. Ron Le Flore played 6 major league seasons.
