Finally going back to WDW. First week of April. Expecting crowds, but our kids should enjoy it (ages 7.5 and 4). Doing more of a value trip. Staying at Art of Animation. Three park days (MK, AK, HS). Avoiding table service with the exception of one character meal possibly. Packing a cooler. Driving instead of flying. Still, with all of Disney's increases, it's gonna cost a fortune.

What are some good quick service places to grab food? Is Genie+ worth it?

I dropped 2k in one day at the Magic Kingdom not counting hotel fees.

Some quick food service places I like by park (with kids in mind).
MK- Casey's Corner, Pinocchio Village Haus, and Cosmic Ray's
AK- Flame Tree BBQ and Pizzafari
HS- ABC Commisary and Woodys Lunch Box

There's more but I have nieces and nephews that can be picky. In regards to Genie+, if technology doesn't bother you, then it's a must have for a shorter trip like yours. You'll want to maximize park time and Genie+ will allow you to hit all the rides/character meet and greets you can think of. I'd recommend watching a video on YouTube before going just to get familiar with the ins and outs of how it works.

Genie + crap has ruined the Disney parks IMO. The fast pass was working just fine before.
As a annual passholder, I like Genie+ a lot. But I also get how much it would suck to have a large family and the costs that would keep racking up buying it daily on a longer trip.

Any have info on Disney Cruises? In-laws are trying to plan a family vacation end of this year. Cruise seems to be the common interest. Any info would be appreciated.

Nothing directly but the feedback I’ve received from friends & colleagues who have done a Disney Cruise is that it was better than a trip to Disney World.

Haven’t been to WDW but was recently at DL for the first time since I was 6. Two young kids and my wife. Can’t compare to fast pass but I will never do a Disney resort without Genie+. Made it so much nicer to book reservations and not have to wait in lines more than needed. Paid the special lightning lane for ROR and Radiator Springs and well worth it as well. I hate lines and 2 hrs for any line is not gonna happen. Also used Mouse Dining for any dining reservations if you miss the “deadline” for reserving, get notifications as people cancel. Used DLR Lines app for up to the minute line length. Tech can be a pain but I think it made all the difference with young kids.

Agreed 100%. And i use all the same tools you have listed above. DW has almost had a schism between people who are good with tech and others who aren't. If you know how to work Genie Plus, you're vacation will be amazing. If you don't, it can get really rocky.

Used to Lifeguard at one of the water parks (Blizzard Beach). Lived with a couple of guys who worked for Disney and we would go to the parks all the time for free. Best experience is Epcot Center while tripping on acid. Wouldn’t recommend it on a family trip though.

Back from WDW. Got miserably sick (combined with my first ever panic attack) on the very first day. EMTs called, and I was wheelchaired out of the park. Disney comped our sit down meal, sent us back to the hotel with tons of food and water and desserts, and paid for the taxi back to the hotel. Broke my fever overnight. Felt 95% better the next two days. Sick again on our last day.

Overall, we had a great time though. I concur with others, Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes are a must to avoid the lines. Spring Break crowds were awful, as expected, combined with 90-degree heat....I refused to wait in any line longer than 40 min. Genie+ and ILL made that possible.

The souvenir shop got us. Otherwise, our planned "budget trip to Disney" would've been mostly a success. We did one sit-down meal. The rest of the time, we just made sandwiches and ate snacks or shared quick service meals. It can be done.

For now, I think the big family trip is bypassing the cruise and will opt for WDW. Unfortunately, the only time we can all get together is the week of Christmas. It's going to be jam-packed. But at least it won't be in the 90s. Does anyone know if the resorts heat the pools in the winter time? Orlando can get quite "cold" at times.

We were there on Tuesday. It was the opening of Tron and one of their band days. My kids are young enough (1,2,6,8) that they’re still pretty satisfied only spending a day at Magic Kingdom and then we spend the rest of the week at the beach near Tampa.

I’ll second that Genie Plus/LL is a must. We rode everything we wanted to and used one to meet Mickey for my son. The only thing we had an issue with was that we had used the LL to book Peter Pan as soon as the park opened, but there were mechanical issues during our time to use it. We checked with a park employee and they basically comp you an additional LL experience to use as a replacement at any time.

I’m not a Disney guy. Never grew up going, but my wife did and my kids are still into it. It’s really grown on me. Can’t beat watching the fireworks over the castle with your family. Or seeing your son meet Mickey and Woody for the first time. Or your daughters meet the princesses. The memories make it all worth it and I find myself agreeing to go back every time it comes up in discussion. I’m not sure we’ll ever do a full week—I still think you can get the most out of Disney in 2-3 days. Animal Kingdom is avoidable if you’ve ever been to a Zoo in your life—UNLESS your kids are into meeting all the characters—and mine really aren’t.

You basically know you’re going to pay out the ass for food and souvenirs, but I will say that they’ve streamlined a lot of their processes to make the park experience as smooth as possible. Their quick service food is pretty solid—up there with ballpark food, IMO. We’ve done “Chef Mickey” in the past, but that was mostly a gimmick to meet characters and the food was only mid-level buffet quality.

And I’ll second the fact that it was hot as hell in Orlando early last week. Luckily we brought our own water in preparation and they have bottle fill areas around the park.

Glad you got on your feet and still got to enjoy your trip!

Tuesday was our Magic Kingdom day too. My wife rode Tron. I wasn't up for standing in the line for it (even with her Virtual Queue pass, she waited 90 minutes). She said it was cool, but way too short of a ride. Rider Swap would've put me in the Lightning Lane, but I just wasn't up for it. I sort of regret it.

I didn't think I would be a Disney guy until we had kids. You're right, nothing beats seeing your kids' faces light up when they see Mickey or a Princess, etc. And the fireworks are legit amazing.

Our family really likes Avatar, so we enjoy Animal Kingdom, but I agree, it's a park that's avoidable.

My wife and her sister just planned a trip back to Disney for Christmas. We know the crowds will be horrific but it's the only time our large group can all go together.

Question: We can only do three parks and one of them might be shortened due to travel. Would you rather have your day shortened at EPCOT or Hollywood Studios?

Note: 6 adults and 6 children. Kids will be 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, and 16. Getting Genie+ and ILL for both days. Current thought is to risk HS getting effected by travel. But there is a lot to do there so I'm skeptical.

Haven't been to Disney since 2007. But....I preferred Epcot to Hollywood.

HS has considerably changed since 2007. My vote was to risk Epcot but I got out voted. I'm trying to get everyone to reconsider.

*Actually my wife and I both voted to leave a buffer travel day open just incase we have flight issues. But everyone else voted to not to do three consecutive park days. So here we are... family vacations are fun!

Just spent a week there at spring break. We quickly gave up on early entrance and got on a late schedule. Hit the pool, hang out and head to the parks before dinner, enjoy the fireworks and close the place. Last 90 minutes at MK are better than the rest of the day - the later close really helps there. I think the crowds subside as the week progresses too - much better Friday/Saturday when we arrived than Sunday-Wednesday for us.

Annoying the park hopper is not available until 2pm and you have to pick your starting park way in advance. We figured out the 7am virtual line sign up was BS but the 1pm was doable for Guardians if you jump on it. Trick is you have to start at Epcot and have checked in to the park to sign up. Such BS as we couldn't hang at the pool and sign up. But we did manage to go on Guardians 3 times in the week. Tron was never available unless you paid. Swan/Dolphin are Marriott properties and much more reasonable than Disney properties. We had to switch from Swan to Pop Century mid week thanks to some damn conference tripling the price at Swan but the new Skyliner is pretty slick plopping you right in front of HS or Epcot. Swan/Dolphin have the boats taking you to HS or Epcot or a manageable walk - good to have half the parks easily accessible.

HS is my favorite park even with Rockin Roller Coaster down for maintenance but you to like the Star Wars heavy action there. Guardians of Galaxy at Epcot is by far the best ride but takes some effort to get in virtual line which is the only line. Tron at MK was short and overrated, had to pay extra to do the ride which had it's official open the week we were there. Cool concept but too many hippos trying to squeeze in to a ride that they shouldn't be on holding up the process.

Your plans are highly dependent on the ages of the travelers though. If I were cutting one park Epcot would be it if younger kids were in tow and honestly MK if older kids wanting better rides. Half day at Animal Kingdom is a no brainer - as is paying for virtual line at that Avatar ride (I'm not waiting 3 hours for anything).

TAKE A STROLLER if you have kids any where near that age. Invest in a good breathable, folding one with a shade like this one

We got lots of years and lots of miles out of ours - great in airports too. Put a cooler small soft sided cooler in the back and don't be shy about bringing in snacks and water. Tie something colorful to it so it is easily picked out of the parking areas too. Kids will fade and carrying them sucks, especially in the heat. Our son at 10 was able to hang but would have been a mess if we tried to hammer the parks all day. He had a few piggyback rides which is no fun in 90 degree heat.

Not sure if HS still does Jedi training but for that pack of kids it is an absolute blast. You have to sign up right when the park opens, on property hotels may get 30 minute early access so avoid those days if you are not. Genie+ is now "day of" sign up starting at 7am. Quite a pain in the ass process that we did not try but seems somewhat essential if you are going to make the most of a full day at the park. If you are doing Genie+ I would definitely half day Epcot instead of HS.

As an ex AP holder from 2017-2020 I'm always going to take Epcot over everything else. Also, like a fellow poster mentioned I did Epcot with 3 couples and we took shrooms.....Top 10 party experience of my life.

Sounds like this recommendation won't be used by too many on this board. ha

I completely agree on the strollers. My wife said no and I vetoed the hell out of that decision. My 7 and 4 yrs olds definitely needed the breaks throughout the day. And when they weren't riding in it, the backpack cooler was, just to give myself a break from carrying it.

When we went, we did Genie+ and ILL. Got up early, booked our times, and then rope-dropped the parks. We essentially did three rides in the first hour at HS: rope drop for Mickey Runaway Railway, genie+ for Slinky Dog, and ILL for Rise of the Resistance. It was pretty fantastic how easy it was....and absolutely necessary in order to ride those rides. Spring Break lines are brutal.

Personally, I'd rather go HS than Epcot because it can realistically be done in half a day with genie plus and ILL. Park us way smaller and easier to navigate. Has shows that will fit a group of 12. Problem with that it that if you get off schedule (i.e. Rides breaking down, which happens often there), it can end up screwing your whole day up since the lightning lanes will book up so quick and especially in your scenario due to shortened time. Epcot will allow you to feel like you get more done though if your family likes shows since World Showcase has a lot of options mixed with not a ton of rides. Problem with Epcot is how much time you actually spend walking instead of doing anything due to size. Personally, I like Star Wars a lot and can just spend time hanging out in Galaxys Edge. But, I go to Epcot, I always want to have a few adult bevs around the world.

Knock on wood, but we've managed to keep the Christmas Disney trip a secret and can't wait to surprise them Christmas morning. Six adults, six kids. All flying out Christmas Day. Weather doesn't look great early on. Hopefully that changes. It's Florida, so who knows. Can't wait though!

Has anyone been the week of Christmas? It's the parks' busiest season and we're curious "realistically" how many rides we can expect to get on (utilizing Rope Drop, Genie+, and ILL of course). Didn't plan any table service meals while at the parks (saved those for off days). We would like to meet a couple characters at each park. This is my sister-in-law's first time taking her kids so they want to see Mickey and a couple princesses. Otherwise, we just want to hit as many rides as we can during this crazy busy week.

One of my TAs is leaving next week to do some Disney internship for the spring in Orlando. She was hoping for an art studio gig but she just found out they’re gonna have her be Jasmine in the park lol

Ha...this fell off my radar, but shoot me a DM. I'd also like to add that it was my first and only time ever doing shrooms. It took some peer pressure before I buckled, but would 100000% do it again (at Epcot) if given the chance. Soarin felt so real it was truly mind bending.
