My comments weren't directed at his scheme specifically just that not all 3-4's are created equal.

Here's the quote I read from Stockton that makes me think he's not right at this time. From 2019:

I’ve been 3-4 my whole life. From the point Coach Diaco took over at Notre Dame, I really don’t know anything else.”

It would make sense that he's comfortable with that. It's very common for coaches to build schemes around what they played in and learned under. Same goes for Zach Arnett

However, his guys this year were incredible creating negative plays. They averaged 8 TFL's/game. Had a 2 game span where they created 23 TFL's. That is truly amazing production. So, when people think of a passive Diaco defense, at least this year, this wasn't it. Is he doing something different, does he just have really good players, etc. I don't know the answers to it but he was up for the Broyles award for good reasons.

Not saying he isn't good, just not sure he's at the point where he can adjust to our personnel without a rebuild. Maybe not. I'd rather we go with a similar system.

Okay...so here is how I view it. I coach HS football so I am not Clark Lea. But I am a firm believer that if you want to get a good pass rush. You should be in a 3 point stance. That way you your first step is the foot towards the ball and you can quicker bend the arc. Some teams will have the edge play in a 2 point stance and this will often let them set the edge, especially when defeating the blocks of the TE. Now if the TE motions away, he could have switched to inside foot back instead. This would allow him to get a clearer vision of the RB and QB. You will often see this especially if the RB is to the side of the DE and the team runs zone reads.

If he's interested in either ND or LSU, he's gonna be in the middle of offer/count-offer for a minute.

Or, if he's not feeling either, and thinks his best shot as a head coach is in '22 at UC after Fickell takes a big job, then he'll give Fickell some time to at least ask for another raise.

So I wouldn't expect anything in the next couple of days, unless someone hit a homerun and negotiations are unnecessary.

As I posted before, the stuff coming out of Rivals seems like ND is in a good position. The wrench that could be thrown into that is if LSU throws just stupid money at him. Freeman is the rockstar DC hire right now. I bet ND was very competitive but part of me thinks LSU will go dumb with it. That's just what the SEC does. I guess we'll see.

Would you avoid it if they were offering you a boatload of cash? LSU typically has a good defense too, might lose a few games but your stock should remain high as long as your side of the ball is performing.

Sadly, ND shouldnt lose these battles for pay short of a school like Texas A&M that has all that oil money. If ND cannot see the value financially to the school for ND being successful football wise, then maybe the IQs arent nearly as high at ND as we believe...

They just hired an OC from the Carolina Panthers. He must not be concerned.

If it comes to money, LSU will win. I would venture to guess that Freeman, being a midwestern guy, could be persuaded by region to come to ND.

I have been to South Bend/Notre Dame many times, and while I have not been to Baton Rouge, I doubt BR is all that much greater than SB in terms of quality of living right?

I have been to South Bend/Notre Dame many times, and while I have not been to Baton Rouge, I doubt BR is all that much greater than SB in terms of quality of living right?

I have lived in Baton Rouge for 13 years and visited SB twice for games, staying the weekend. I can, without a doubt, state that BR is many times better city wise than SB. The women in BR are so far superior to anything that SB produces (or Indiana period) that it isnt remotely comparable. The weather is many times better. The food is much, much better. I think I broke out a windbreaker jacket twice a year while in BR. Comparing the cities in any aspect is a losing fight for SB.

My time in SB left really nice memories of a beautiful campus, not so nice game experience (lost both badly) and a really, really crappy view of a crappy city.

The women in BR are so far superior to anything that SB produces (or Indiana period) that it isnt remotely comparable. The weather is many times better. The food is much, much better. I think I broke out a windbreaker jacket twice a year while in BR. Comparing the cities in any aspect is a losing fight for SB.

My time in SB left really nice memories of a beautiful campus, not so nice game experience (lost both badly) and a really, really crappy view of a crappy city.

BR sucks for raising kids. You have to send your kids to private school period in that city. A lot of skin and legs so great for a younger, single guy. Not so good for a married guy with kids.

Kentucky's defenses have been very solid I am assuming because of Brad White. Given that they are always at or near the bottom of the SEC recruiting rankings, I'd be curious what he could do with top 10 talent.
