Anybody else hoping for a complete offensive shit show from ND so Freeman might just reconsider the OC situation? I'd trade one completely useless game for an entire season.
Why be so negative? Why not hope the OC gets a HC job. ;)

Crazy bizarre.

It’s stupid. He wasn’t good enough to play all the time. So he needed every down he could get. These players are listening to much to people instead of just doing.

And this is why players like JJB get more attention and respect.

At some point you have to ask do you love to play the game? I get guys ready for 10 million dollar nfl contracts being cautious but not these udfa kids. Realistically only 1% of players should be sitting out with big money on the line.

the flip side if you are UDFA calibur and you get hurt then your football career is over.

That could happen at any point during the season. How often does a guy get a career ending injury now a days?

It's not the injury but the timing of it. If you are hoping to ball out as UDFA in the summer, you need to be in the best shape of your life, including the draft days where teams are prioritizing UDFA lists. Even an ankle sprain in late December can be a huge obstacle.

As an UDFA, your career is likely over anyway, you just haven't accepted it yet. Sure, bouncing around on practice squads seems great I suppose.

Hey, practice squad salary is real money compared to what most of these guys will be doing after football.

It’s not like they’re flipping burgers. They have a degree from ND.

Probably not all, but definitely more.
Probably not Alt. Maybe not Estime. The rest of them though.

I'd guess there was a snowball effect. Half the WRs and Staes transferred. Then Alt and Estime made the (logical) decision to opt-out. Then Fisher for some reason. Then we land in the Sun Bowl instead of playing LSU like everyone thought we would and Hartman looks around and sees there's no one to protect him or throw to. Then if Captain Sam isn't playing...

It's unfortunate but ultimately a good opportunity for the young guys to get live reps going into next season. This is the last year this will be an issue. Either you'll be in the playoffs or really no one will give a shit.

Tosh kind of has an unusual body composition. We’ll see how well he can move.

The Baker appointment makes some sense to me. His earlier installation as the LT back-up to Big Joe was a sign that the staff thought he had the power and the mobility to do that job. Given Jagusah might be our next true AA tackle, moving Baker over to RT seems to fit the small amount of data that we have. Wagner can show what he can do if Baker struggles, and if he can handle the power requirements at his current somewhat-slight build. I view our OLine room as still strong in potential. Our OLine coach must bring them along and our S&C coach too, but in the past (with Hiestand and Ballis) I would have no concerns that we were alright. This game will be extremely interesting to me to watch the play-by-play of this new OLine. I don't expect miracles, but the play-by-play wins and losses will tell us a lot about where we are and where we'll likely ascend to next season. This bunch SEEMS to have the bullyboy power base necessary to build upon. (and I'm including some as yet untried youngsters in that intuition.)

I'm getting both excited and nervous for this game. I think both on paper and following our recruiting as closely as I do that we have a very slight edge but I just read how Oregon State has some really good freshman linebackers in Chisom and Jordan ready to make a statement. The OSU coach was a really good linebacker for them back in the day and if there is any position they can prep for after all the opt-outs it is probably this one. I know this seems like just a high school practice game at this point but I'm not sure which side is the Varsity squad. I just don't want to lose to them again. It must be a small list of teams that we have never beaten in multiple attempts and I would like to take the Beavers off of it.

I have less care about the outcome of this bowl game than any I’ve watched since I was a small kid. Got our extra practices, excellent. Passed that, the outcome matters so little I’m not even planning to watch the game live. I cared more about tracking down a free access to watch the Stanford game than this steamer.
