Idk. Both in 2012 and this year, we had close calls against bad teams. We didn't look like an elite team. This year, our defense looked legit, and I think it was. The majority of our struggles today came with Donte fucking Vaughn on the field. However, our offense really hasn't looked good all year. Dex was great, but the OL sucked, WRs weren't anything special, and Book was just good enough to win behind the defense.

Most years, our schedule will look tougher than it did this year. If we go undefeated with a legit top schedule. I think we'll get in again. 1 loss will never cut it. Also, we need to start passing the eye test. Last year, I think we passed the eye test until Miami. We kicked the crap out of USC and NC St, kept it to 1 point vs UGA, and put away our lesser opponents. Then it unraveled. This year, we struggled against a bevy of lesser opponents.

If we can keep Lea, coupled with our defensive recruiting, I think we're gonna have a championship level defense for the years to come. We gotta figure out some shit on offense. Recruiting has been sub-par (especially RB), playcalling has been hot and cold. Fingers crossed 5 star Phil is the truth.

So, I think we can make the playoffs again. But we have to earn it. Most years, if we go undefeated against our schedule, it will be enough. The people who were saying we weren't good enough this year, were right. They're not biased ND haters. They are informed CFB fans. If we are legitimately good enough to make the playoffs again, they won't leave us out. But we have a ways to go to be legitimately good enough.

USC, Vandy, Ball State, and Pitt were all close calls against bad teams this year. E. Oops, I misread your post. I agree..

You can sugarcoat it however you want, but those two, Bama especially, are way above everyone else. We get fired up over "5-star Phil" who wasn't even a 5 star according to most sites. That's how we live. They start all real 5 star guys.

I'm not big on the "they're taking steroids oy vey, how could we ever compete?!" line of thinking but Lawrence has to be on something. The kid just turned 19. He looks like has been body building for 20 years.

But the more I think about it you have to give a lot of credit to Clemson. That defense is just nasty. The way they played today they would hold majority of power 5 teams to 3 points or less. Heck in 2016 they shutout tOSU 31-0 in the playoffs with all those 5 stars tOSU have

Now I think replay got all but one call correct. I believe that was a catch and then a fumble by Mack. Which would have setup 3rd and 1. He caught the ball, brought it in spun around and then was stripped.

Yeah, Alabama (and increasingly Clemson) have sucked the fun out of CFB. In professional sports there is a way to balance things out (to an extent) but I don't see a way to balance the scales in CFB. I mean I don't hate the Patriots and their dominance over 20 years doesn't really bother me because they have done it on a more or less even playing field and have to overcome real obstacles through superior coaching and play. What obstacles exist for Clemson and Bama other than each other? They can recruit whoever they want with basically no restriction.
