Coming up with 0 points on back to back drives inside the 5 yard line is just unacceptable. It just doesn't happen to Clemson or alabama in games like this. I knew it was over then.

If we're talking "deserve" it's not close. ND has probably the 3rd best resume, definitely the 4th.

Whether it's a good idea to be in the playoffs as a 4 seed and get trucked by Bama is an entirely different question.

Honestly, I don’t give two shots about standards I want to win.

Am I glad these kids don’t come to see me in the prison system when their college careers are over? Sure.
Does that win me any bragging rights against my coworkers who day and age have every right to rub it in my face how terrible this program is compared to all of them who like OSU, Georgia, Bama, Florida, and anyone else who hasn’t been as embarrassing as we have in the national level? No it wins me nothing as a fan. This program wins me nothing over them. College football to me is nothing more than entertainment to try and get me a chance to get some sort of vicarious glory and gloat to my co workers. In my entire life as an ND can I have had no vicarious glory and nothing by mocking from my co worker who follow teams who actually....ya know.... SUCCEED when the bright lights are on.

To all those that think running this program with the same sort of moral high ground is good well

I think it's realistic to expect we're not going to be in the same league with Clemson, Alabama, or tOSU while they're pulling in all the top classes season after season. We have hamstrung ourselves with academic restrictions and various other hurdles. At best I think we're still a Top 10 team today in the second Tier after those football factories, but the talent gap between our starters and theirs is big at a bunch of positions still.

If you don't think it makes a world of difference, the last time we were truly dominant WE were the team pulling in those top classes year after year in Holtz's good years. When recruiting changed we started losing, then we added some coaching instability and we got really mediocre for a long while. It would have been nice to win today, but the result isn't that surprising really. Our last 4 recruiting classes have been 18th, 15th, 10th, and 10th. Those are nothing to sneeze at, they got us to 10-0 after all, but the other guys have been that much better and some haven't suffered as bad with transfers and talent failing to develop. Clemson just reloads every year, same with Bama and tOSU.

There’s no shot at redemption there. The rest of the world sees that game a bama having a glorified bye week and this team being a national embarrassment. And where’s the lie in either one? Edit: also more recruits to say “ why would

The last time Clemson and Alabama played, Bama actually came away as bad or worse than we did in that playoff. Not saying we'd hang with Bama in 2020, and not saying I wouldn't prefer a regular NY6 game, but maybe we'd see a different motivation in a playoff game. Probably not, but any given Saturday and all that.

IDK. Maybe I'm down after the loss, but I just think "deserved" is very debatable. I'm actually not very down at all. At least not as down as I normally would be after a beat down. I guess I wasn't fully on the hype train to start with.

ND struggled for most of the game vs 2-9 Duke and 4-7 Louisville. Our two best wins are

1. at home over a team missing it's #1 superstar and a few stars on D, and it took multiple OTs. It's an asterisk win. Feel free to disagree, but that's how I see it.
2. over a good, not great UNC team, that also lost to 3-6 FSU and 5-5 UVA.

As far as the other teams that will be in the conversation...

OSU - weak resume because of cancelled games (not their fault), but most folks if they're being honest know they have the talent at least to maybe knock off a big boy. So depends on how you define "deserve"

TAMU - got throttled by Bama, but did beat a good FL team, which IMO is better than the UNC win, and perhaps the same level as our asterisk win.

Cinci - we beat USF by more than them, but they handled them too. I think we're obviously better than a Cinci team, but they handled what was on their schedule, and looked good on both sides of the ball. I'd actually hate to play them in a bowl.

At a certain point every year, this becomes apparent. Overall, a better season then I expected. I thought 9-2 regular season due to the lack of playmakers. Our RBs were much better than I expected and the WRs weren’t bad (I was expecting bad).

I agree with a lot of this. I enjoyed this year even more than 2018 in a lot of ways (COVID took away some of the enjoyment and 2018 made me feel like we were getting closer, so it’s hard to compare). Also, Clemson could have beaten us by 50 and they couldn’t have taken away the feeling I had from when we beat them on Nov 7th. That was a long time coming. However, I personally don’t get any joy out of being better than 117 or whatever teams but still a solid notch below the top 3 when push comes to shove. We beat Clemson, but we still aren’t Clemson (or Bama or OSU). We need Buchner to be the next Mac Jones, Justin Fields, etc. if we want to really compete

I'm proud of these guys with the lack of overall talent compared to Ala/Clem you can't expect equality-----but top ten every year and playing in these games should at some point not be enough. Its an issue that will remain-great guys/great students/great football players/some good pros if they choose/ but they ain't Ala/Clem. I really thought they would win this game-and I never feel that way-I was wrong. The balance of power due to recruiting at this point seems far too much to overcome.

People on here want to talk about recruiting and getting the all the 5* kids-- let me tell you about a 3* kid in our 2016 class who outperformed his star ranking and became ND's all time winning QB.

To win a NC you have to beat Alabama and Clemson, I feel those 2 teams are college football year after year. I respect the hell out of Dabo and we lost to a very good Clemson team. I am proud of this football team this year and I will not define this season because of this loss.

People on here want to talk about recruiting and getting the all the 5* kids-- let me tell you about a 3* kid in our 2016 class who outperformed his star ranking and became ND's all time winning QB.

Book is a good qb. If you want to win the big games you need a great qb. And if TL didn’t have Covid we wouldn’t have won in south bend.

This loss doesn't take away everything this team has accomplished this year. They were a heck of a fun team to watch in the midst of a pandemic. They lost to arguably the best team in the country who was out for revenge blood. CFP or not those are the dudes I will continue to support for at least one more game this year.

Face it guys. Your 5 star today isnt a rich white kid driving a 50k truck. Its the well less fortunate kid hungry as all get out without a plan B. Doesnt care about a life without football and doesnt want to work for it because face it, he hasnt had to since he was very young and people started noticing.

It is just a different world now with sports guys.

I love ND and what it stands for. Unfortunately, the glory days are well dusty.

I had said before the media really lit a fire under Clemson. All the ND this and ND that after what was a real upset, not an expected win. Clemson had the "I will show you it was a fluke" attitude and it showed. We could have played them 9 more times today and it would have been teh same result....today that is.

This will pass. Lawrence is gone after this year. Clemson wont be as dominate with him gone. It will always be a good team as long as Dabo is there but not like it has been. Just like when Texas AM lost Johnny football and FSU lost Crablegs.
