lol.

Probably true.

But for the record, it would be a Notre Dame / Cubs bar.

Not a St. Louis / Notre Dame bar. Do these actually exist?

I'd have your back johnny. You just gave me a business idea, an ND/Cubs bar!! But back to the cubs, great hire by them, and I dont think they are going to go after Fielder, I would like to see them sign Pena again, he is a stud first baseman. Also the minor league system is going to be studly in years to come. Like Theo said, if he can't bring a championship to Chicago in 10 years it will be a failure. And it is funny, I have used the ND=Cubs argument all to often in years past. Sad, it is really sad haha

That farm system is going to get turned inside out within 4 years with Theo in charge. Kids are for one thing.....building up the big league squad, and it will deplete quickly through trade/attrition/injury. Just ask the Indians how that went for them. They screwed themselves inside of 7 years and then John Hart got out of Dodge to the Rangers. Rip up one organization, and roost again in another.

You guys are starting to really **** me off. The Cubs and Notre Dame have nothing in common. I wont dive in further, because I value my life, and Johnny is listening. But that is that. The only thing Notre Dame and the Cubs have in common is that some of you are fans of both.

On another note. I like the hire for you guys, and although I agree on the farm system build up, I think the Cubs will take a shot at Fielder.

Other than losing? ND has that in common with a ton of teams in every sport. That's like saying that they are similar to Idaho state or the LA Clippers.

Because they are geologically close? Yeah, they have that in common with Northern Illinois as well, whats your point?

Their traditions are based off of completely different things. While they have both had it tough over the last decade, there have never been real expectations of winning for the Cubs (don't try to convince me there are). What in the last decade has happened that makes the Cubs and Notre Dame similar other than that?

I constantly hear people trying to compare their other teams to Notre Dame and it simply doesn't ever hold water, and I am not saying that because I am not a Cubs fan. Notre Dame shouldn't be compared to any of my teams either. Notre Dame is a unique brand all to their own.

Finally, don't call me ignorant just because I disagree with you. Especially when you didn't even bring any facts to the table.

No expectations?? Cubs=2003 and 2008 ND=every year
It is a lot harder to have expectations for a baseball club, it is so much more difficult to win consistently due in large part to the long season, free agents, and the economics and business behind a professional sport.
And you put ND on way too high of a pedestal. Yes it is a very special program with a very rich past and history, I agree with you. I grew up and still ive about 25 minutes from ND, I know what it is all about. But ND is by no means so far superior to any other sports team in this world that they are incomparable in any aspect. Are they superior to some, yes of course. Another reason I feel there is a similarity between the two is because of the demographics of their fan bases. Both are country wide and often times draw almost as many fans as the given home team. Both groups of fans often put ridiculous expectations on their respective program. Also Cubs fans, like ND's for the most part are more sophisticated people. I would not expect you to know much about the Cubs fan base since you do not live near Chicago and may have never been to a game. And yes I can call you ignorant, do you know the meaning of an ignorant person? It is someone who lacks knowledge or is uneducated in a particular matter. Just like I am ignorant in a field such as chemistry or physics. I feel since you are not a Cubs fan, you lack specific knowledge on the topic. I do not think you are ignorant to ND although in fact you are quite knowledgeable. Ignorance is not a bad thing, be honest with yourself you do not always have to know everything. Your attitude towards the Cubs is eerily similar to Cardinals fans I know.

I agree HCTI, it is going to take some work. But Theo did not take this job to use it as a stepping stone to another. He took the Red Sox from losers to champions. That organization had the 2nd longest World Series drought only to the Cubs. Theo looks at htis job as a challenge and feels he is the person that can do it. If you have achieved every other goal as a GM in major league baseball, why would you not want to take on the toughest challenge in any major league sport, not only getting the Cubs to a World Series but rather winning one. If he wins a WS for the Cubs and the city of Chicago, he would be a saint and undoubtedly the greatest GM ever. Very little risk involved, but a HUGE reward.

Cubs-I remember watching all those years of frustration, hoping that in 84, 89, 98, 01, 03 (may be wrong on the years) they would turn the corner. I also remember the ND championship year-I was there watching when ND beat FSU in 93-and recalled not being able to be there the next weekend (despite having tickets!) when they lost to BC.

Misery loves company with these 2 teams-and despite Da Bears coming close the only thing I've tasted success wise as a fan in the last few years (Bulls championships are still fresh but dated) is the Blackhawk's Cup.

So, yeah-in my mind they are related-but that's me....

btw-F@k the Cards!!

First 10: 3-7

****.

It's good to see that some guys are doing really well, like Castro, aside from a few errors. I enjoyed the pitching that Samardzija had shown so far.

Gotta start putting the breaks on division rivals. 2 of 3, guys--all season long.

I am getting some cubs tickets for my birthday friday.

Probably going to use stubhub, but do you guys have any other suggestions? Wait until the last minute and hope that the good seats prices will drop?

Thanks in advance fellas

Yeah I live near there and it's never any trouble to get good seats cheap on gameday. Depending on who is in town, of course. And Fridays are more popular, just FYI.

Oh nice. For sure, it's a great neighborhood. If you want to avoid stubhub, walk around the stadium. I always see people selling tickets for super cheap. All depends on game/opponent/day/weather too. All else fails after walking around, can just hit up the wrigley box office or use a stubhub app too. Plus there's a bunch of "authorized" ticket sellers near the red line entrance on Addison.

Marmol has cost us so many games. I can't understand how he is still the closer. If he can't be traded he needs to be sent down to the minors. The guy has filthy stuff but currently has zero confidence in himself. He knows when he goes in that something bad is going to happen. Can't have a guy like that on your pitching staff.

Such a beautiful blown save today by MarmLOL.
Saw this gem on twitter:
Marmol (v.): to explode in spectacular fashion. In a sentence: "They marmoled that old building. Synonyms: implode, melt down, combust.

Don't be mad because you're 9-16.It's understandable with the Cubbies. At least your team isn't getting your hopes up and then blaming not getting to the world series on a dork in glasses....

I'm not mad. I actually thought we were having a clever bit of banter. And I was at the game when Farnsworth kicked the crap out of your starting pitcher. That was kind of a fun day to be wearing a Cubs hat in Cincy.

I do mourn the fact that Dusty blew out Mark Prior and Kerry Wood. He abused them that year.
