IDK why I enjoy seeing the Cubs and their fans suffer. I hope they don't ever win a championship in my lifetime. I can not explain why I feel that way.

Lmao...reps

Because Steinbrenner's evil empire of the most ungodly payroll amounts did equate to championships.

But it always felt like a given and not an earned championship.

The Cubs win it all, and it'll be the greatest championship win of all time.

No better sports story and the ratings it will garner cannot be touched.

First of all the 1996 team was not the best team money could buy. That goes the same for the other 1990's championship teams.

Haters are going to hate though.

I love Sherm Sticky very much, and will respectfully disagree with his baseball opinions.

WTF does 2003 have to do with this team?

In pure baseball sense nothing, but it's part of the lore and history which all of the discussions have been built upon.

Obviously not a Cubs fan, but I would like to see Chicago vs. Cleveland in the series.

If the season is any indication, game 2 and 3 were the flukes. Doesn't mean a win, but this was a moment of reverting to the mean. Hoping they can get to Kershaw in game 6.

There's no fluke when Kershaw's on the mound. Game 2 was a throw away.

Just like last night was no fluke with Lackey and his month worth of post season starts going against a 19 year old rookie. They could have expressed the line last night in TD's instead of runs. Thanks to that match up, my table will have free pizza and beer tonight for Game 5 and the Bears courtesy of Vegas.

For record's sake, the 1996 team, hell most of the 90's great Yankee teams were not cynical 'outspend the other guys' type teams... Really once the Yankees did start with that line of thinking the overall product progressively went down...

Cubs fans: Do you remember the last time the Chicago Cubs were up 3-1 in the NLCS? Or do you want me to refresh your memory?

Good thing it's 2-2 I guess.....

I get that Kershaw's good. But he doesn't always throw shutouts (especially in the postseason). And Hendricks pitched well enough for the Cubs to win that game. Scratch across a run or two and get into the bullpen and you've got a shot.

Agreed.

All of the national announcers are talking as if it's guaranteed that the Dodgers will win game 6. I know Kershaw is one of the best, but the NL ERA leader seems to be getting ZERO respect.

If the Dodgers are going to throw Kershaw out there every few days then there is one thing I am sure of, they won't win the World Series. Kershaw is a beast, but he's not an android.

Exactly. I like that Roberts is letting Kershaw get his normal rest and then pitch Game 6. So many times in the postseason, Kershaw goes on short rest.

Has he made that official? If so I missed it.

Also if so... I would say this game tonight is super critical for both teams.

As much as I want to see the Cubs win a World Series, I will take Kershaw any day, any game, any moment and give everyone else the field. Dude was dealing the other night.

With that said, I do think the Cubs hurt themselves against him in game two as they didn't make him work very heard early in the game. Getting through inning after inning with a very low pitch average only plays in to his hands.

Yes.

The Cubs have a chance to get back to the doorstep tonight in Game 5, with Jon Lester due to face Kenta Maeda, the Japanese right-hander who led the Dodgers with 16 regular-season wins but hasn't been very effective over the last month.

But it's the Dodgers who would seem to have a pitching advantage in Game 6, with the best-in-the-business Clayton Kershaw set to face Kyle Hendricks, who isn't bad himself.

You'll see Kershaw in game 6 and if there is a game 7 it wouldn't surprise me to see him again in relief. They're gonna ride that horse til the wheels fall off. Tonight is huge...if we put Kershaw in a hostile environment and must win situation in game 6 hopefully he'll press a little. We do have Lester (our ace at the moment), Hendricks ( lowest ERA in baseball and Cy Young hopeful), and Arrieta (defending Cy young) on the mound the next three games. You can't ask for much more than that.

The only way that Kershaw is pitching in relief in Game 7 is if he has an extremely short appearance in Game 6.

The only pitcher that I can think of in the modern era that started a game, pitched significant innings, and came back the very next day in relief was Randy Johnson in the 2001 World Series. The big difference was that it was Game 7 of the World Series, not Game 7 of the NLCS.

He started game 4 and came in for a two out save in game 5 of the NLDS so they've done it already. Their bullpen has struggled so if they're in a situation like that...expect to see him. Of course if the Cubbies close it out in 6 that would be better

But that replaced is normal bullpen session. And it wasn't back-to-back days.

I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me IF it happens. He's the only pitcher right now that worries me. The Dodgers 'pen has given up runs and I don't see Hill being as successful in a game 7.
