Has anyone else heard of the rumor that the Cubs will trade for Sonny Gray before the deadline? Tom Waddle from ESPN Chicago said that; it was the first time I had heard of that rumor and I've been thinking of who they'd have to give up for him.

With Bryant playing well in LF and Baez playing well at 3rd base (from what I have seen anyway), I am warming up to the idea of trading Soler.

Haven't heard anything about it for several months. But I like him a lot. THinking we'd have to give up a ton to get him though.

Unbelievable start.

Joe pushing all the right buttons, starters consistently going 6-7 innings, better at bats evoking high pitch counts, guys playing solid defense at multiple positions, small ball, large ball...

Just a joy to watch.

I remember in 02-03 discussing the Angels WS team and my parents and we all agreed that Black and Madden were key in the whole thing... With that 02 team Madden seemed to come in and just get so much out of multiple guys with careers that just seemed to be stuck in neutral to that point.

It's not luck what he did in LA, TB and now Chicago...

Market could be way down on him after a terrible start to the season and now a DL stint. I however think an off season deal is much more likely, probably see a deal for a bullpen arm. Saw a rumor of Andrew Miller from the Yankees, if there was any way to make that happen and not give up any ML starters I'd be all for it.

This isn't Chicago related, but I work with the South Bend Cubs (Single-A) so I get to see these guys play a lot and there is one kid in particular who I wouldn't be surprised if he's playing in Chicago in 3 years. His name is Eloy Jimenez, plays LF and is only 19 years old. He leads the Midwest League in hits (59), slugging percentage (.553), extra-base hits (23), and total bases (97). He's hitting .341, has a 14 game hitting streak, and is ranked the Cubs #9 overall prospect. Jimenez isn't the only Cubs top prospect that has played in South Bend within the last year; last year Gleyber Torres (#1 prospect) and Ian Happ (#3 prospect) played in South Bend in 2015 but have since been called up to Myrtle Beach.

Just letting you guys know that there is more young talent throughout the farm system than just in AAA Iowa :)

Thanks for sharing man. I enjoy hearing about/watching the lower ball prospects. Been to that stadium a few times, not real nice...but cheap beer which is usually cold. :)

I'll keep an eye out for this kid. Theo and staff bring in the best...I mean it is amazing how he finds and develops top talent.

It is interesting that you say that because we are complimented all the time about how nice the stadium/field is; even opposing players have said this is their favorite stadium to play in. Speaking of Theo, he was in town to see the team on Tuesday and Wednesday

It is the one on the south side SB, correct?...not too far off of 31. Probably been 5 years or so since I've been there.

Theo was probably watching your guy. I've posted this before, one of the coolest moments in my life was flying behind him to Boston after the winter meetings in Indy...awesome.

It isn't a coincidence the lovable loser all of a sudden sport baseball's best record.

It is basically right in the middle of downtown South Bend. And I can see why you have that opinion if you haven't been there in 5 years haha. In the last 2-3 years they have done some major renovations. With the new renovations and going from the Diamondbacks to the Cubs, the Thursday-Sunday games are almost always sold out now.

Yeah, Theo was definitely there to see Eloy but there are other players like Donnie Dewees, Eddie Julio Martinez, Justin Steele, and Carson Sands that have a decent chance to get called up to the big show one day.

Thanks again for the info...really appreciate it. We'll have to make a trip up to check it out. Her and I were literally just talking last night about making a trip to see the Kokomo diamond. I'd much prefer a couple more hours to see South Bend.

Never understood why the D-Backs were "trying" to grow talent in SB. Cubs make much more sense.

Neither do I. It makes way more sense, both economically and geographically, for a Cubs or White Sox Single-A team to be in South Bend. All they need to do is add a few bars across the street and they'll have themselves a mini Wrigleyville!

LOL...a few bars/eateries would be nice. Not just for the park but for the city. Last time I was there think a Rally's was close...maybe a taco bell...IDK, we always ate somewhere else.

You must be in business development.

While on topic, how do you start a thread? Does nobody but me and the half a million people at the track care? Just curious... Us Nap-towners aren't used to it being televised.

Actually no, I just graduated a few weeks ago with a BA in Business and Sports Management and I'm in merchandising and help out a little with marketing. But it is interesting you say that because I've been told by a few people that I would do well in business development haha

Thank you, sir. If anything else happens in Single-A South Bend, I'll post updates here.

Congrats on your graduation. Believe or not...you are developing the business of that ball park. My degree is in business, work in Talent Acquisition...the title of the degree in the real world doesn't mean too much.

As you probably know, that area is being called the Renaissance District. The city is planning on throwing millions of dollars into the development of that area. So you may get your wish.

Unfortunately... there are no plans to move the County Jail, Homeless Shelter or the Soup Kitchen. So it is what it is in some sense.

For pure baseball and fan enjoyment purposes, I think they should develop North, West, and South. East is pretty much already occupied with, as you already mentioned, the SB police station, jail, and homeless shelter. There is an old, huge, abandoned building across the street on the first base side that could knocked down and they could put a string of bars there. I think about this stuff when I'm bored haha

While I agree that it would be nice, almost every small business renting downtown is getting aid from the city and there is way too many public buildings (non taxable). So I find it hard to believe that it will happen. The money just isn't there.

I wouldn't put anything past Andrew Berlin (SB Cubs owner). If he wants it and has the money for it (he's loaded by the way), then there is a good chance it'll get done. A new apartment complex behind center field is currently in the works. The city might not have the money, but Berlin sure does.

The real Cubs have opened up a 5-0 lead as the red hot Ben Zobrist hit a 3 run dinger. They are 1 win away from sweeping a pretty good Phillies team.

Zobrist is really something. That's a 15-game hitting streak and his 35th RBI. What a year.
