Oh my. This lineup is getting scary.

Who leads off? Zobrist?

Zobrist 2B
Heyward CF
Bryant 3B
Rizzo 1B
Schwarber LF
Soler RF
Montero C
Pitcher
Russell SS

Pending a possible Soler trade, a Heyward move to RF, and the acquisition of a more prototypical leadoff/CF guy...

Great pickup. Wonder if they're going to put him in CF or maybe trade Soler for pitching and pick up someone else. I can't imagine they have much money left to spend after this signing.

Soler for a young cost controlled SP and sign Span/resign Fowler.

That would be my best guess, but who knows. Danny Salazar for Soler would look okay to me. A deal like that would also give you the option to move Bryant to RF and Baez to every day 3B. Bryant could be a plus RF next to Heyward.

Man...this is fun.

Why? I'd certainly be worried that Soler will blow up, but cheap SP is hard to find.

Because Hammel and Hendricks can be above average 4 and 5 guys in the rotation. I want Soler to be a part of the long term plan and we saw in the post season how good he can be. Right now, from top to bottom, the Cubs have the best line up and I don't want to weaken that for a #4 pitcher.

But, at the same time, they have done a tremendous job building this team and if they think another starter is needed to win the World Series, then I can't disagree with their decision. The Cubs are going for it all for the next 10 years and I could not be more excited

Heyward isn't a CF. He's a 26 year old with 3 Gold Gloves in right field already. I'm sure he could be serviceable in center but why take a risk after you just spent 200 million.

Everyone pretty much thinks he can be a very good CF though. The Cards played him there for a few games and the results were very good. But I'd love Fowler playing CF next to him in RF. That'd be sick.

Still, I'd love to see Soler become a 35 HR guy for us. I'm glad I don't make these decisions.

Hendricks, yes. Hammel...I'm not sure anymore. But that's where the Castro trade plays in. Either way, it seems that Bosio has the Dave Duncan magic. I hope that continues.

It would all depend on what you get. If you can get a #2 starter who happens to be your #4 (that's what I think the Salazar trade could be), maybe it's worth it.

Then put Heyward in right and move Soler to center. Just keep the current line up the way it is.

I hope they give CJ Edwards a chance

They've been shopping Soler. Fowler is gone. If I were the Sox GM for a day, I'd give you Adam Eaton for center and pick up his contract as a friendly gesture. Eaton would fit well with the Cubs.

I'd also lend you Chris Sale for the year for right of first refusal on Hulk Schwarber during his arbitrary eligible year.

I'm a team player. Love all my Chitown boys, even the side of town that can't hoop.

Heh.

Just trying to think about the best possible mix. We lost to the Mets because of pitching. We need more of that.

That has crossed my mind. I just don't see the Cubs getting some gas throwing ace for Soler (at least not yet). At the end of the day though, this team is set with or without Soler. It'd just be nice to keep him on the team

Not going to get an ace. But maybe a #2. Again, Salazar is in that mix...

25 year old 14 game winner with a 3.3 WAR could be worth Soler.

Danny Salazar Statistics and History | Baseball-Reference.com

Could be a win-win. But I don't know if a trade like that is on the table.

Again, I'm glad I don't have to make the call on these kind of deals...

No doubting Theo is the man...he has taken Cubs from scrubs to contenders in no time. And did the same in Boston.

If he is the man who ends baseball's two longest and most publicized "curses" he'll be a legend forever.

Had the fortune once of flying the seat behind him on the way to Boston the year the winter meetings were in Indy. It was freaking amazing seeing him and his team work. I had direct view of his laptop and being a BoSox fan was highly interested in seeing his free agent board/rankings. Freaking cool!!

I agree with that...don't care what other teams were offering. He isn't Manny Ramirez. He is a good player and all but reminds me more of JD Drew.

The real question is whether it puts the Cubs over the top. If it does, it was worth it, and then some. It's a huge upgrade and it decimates the Cardinals in the process.

This move alone won't put anybody "over the top". Cubs need pitching, which I understand they have gotten as well. That will put them over the top...not a right fielder who isn't Barry Bonds. But yes to your point, an upgrade in right and 2nd base so far. Cubs have been good this off season.

They gave him less money and fewer years than was the "market value." Nats were offering 200 million and other offers were reportedly as high as 10 years.

This is a win.

Jason Heyward deal gives Cubs the top free agent at an extraordinary value - Keith Law Blog- ESPN

Before last year he was considered a possible bust . One good year don't get this kind of money. But hey what do I know. Cardinals and the patriots are the best at cutting bait at the right time.

The Cards didn't cut bait. He left.

Eta: The Cards apparently had a higher offer on the table.

Yeah they test for PEDS now. Saber metrics is the way baseball will forever be gauged now. Not HR totals and RBIs. And certainly not juiced numbers of players like Ramirez, Bonds, and Clemens
