We looking overall average only?

Castro has most at bats on team, 2nd in hits, 3rd in rbis. Russell 2nd on team with strikeouts (20 more than Castro with 100 less ABs).

Russell also has shown to be about 100 pts worse against lefties.

He has a long ways to go offensively.

So while defensively he is and will be better. I don't see that move coming very soon. I'm not convinced Baez turns into the player everyone thinks he is either.

Not sure why most at bats and second most hits is significant. Russell's OPS is 50 points higher than Castro's. I'm not saying he should replace Castro immediately because I believe Castro will heat up at some point, but right now Russell is probably the more productive player on both sides of the ball.

Most at at bats was to put their comparitive stats into perspective. Hits don't matter?

Maddon must disagree with you or Russell would be batting higher in order and playing more games.

He is going to be good and end up at SS, but he isn't that guy right now.

Schwarber had a huge game last night! Hit a two run shot in the 9th to tie it and then hit a game winning HR in the 13th to win it. Was watching some of the stat cast stuff and they were saying the ball jumps off his bat in mph the 3rd fastest of any MLB player (exit velocity). Carlos Stanton was #1. Sure is fun watching all this young talent play. We just all need to remember there are going to continue to be growing pains and ups and downs with all these young guys. Today's line up has 4 rookies in it: Bryant, Soler, Russell and Schwarber.

Hendricks getting hit early. Early error at SS by Russell certainly didnt help the team get started.

yeah pen has been active since the break. need long starts for the double today.

And, like him or hate him, E Jax would have been able to eat innings in emergency long relief today. Wood pitched last night, so I'm not sure if he's available for more than a couple today.

Rondon and Motte both went two innings last night too.

EJax great locker room guy and a guy I can respect. you never heard him say a bad thing his whole time sitting out there doing nothing.

Soriano didn't even look that impressive the other night.

Looks like they sent Richard down in favor of Medina. Gives them a few more innings from the pen today. Hopefully Beeler will have a good night. We need the innings and we need a win.

Yep, Hendricks muscled through 6 but this game got ugly.

They really need to take advantage of the next 10 games (Phillies, Rockies, and Brewers). It'd be nice to go into the Pittsburgh series 15 games over .500.

Also, even when Montero gets healthy I don't think they can afford to send Schwarber back down. That kid is just too damn good

I was fortunate enough to sit caddy-corner on a jet from Theo. The MLB meetings just happened to be in Indy that year and we just happened to be flying out to Boston at the same time. He was with a crew of three others...all looked to be the same age as him.

Dude was extremely organized. Players sorted by position then position ranked best to last, finally sorted by need. Every player had a score of 100 top down. As a Redsox fan it was one of the coolest things I've ever not expected to see. Besides the fact my then GF was infatuated when I told her who he was.

What are the chances they trade for Price? As long as the youngsters (Rizzo, Bryant, Russell, Soler, and Shwarber) aren't involved in the trade then I would probably be all for it.

Castro and Hendricks for Price? Maybe throw in Dan Vogelbach from the minors? He's one of the Cubs' better prospects but probably won't ever make it to the MLB as a Cub because of Anthony Rizzo and I've read he isn't athletic enough to play any other position. He could be a DH in Detroit.

I don't buy it. I see the possibility, but I think they stand pat and sign Price for free in the off season. Also, I think Hendricks has the chance to be a 12-15 win guy for 10 years. He's a poor man's Greg Maddux.

This year is a bonus. We're ahead of schedule. Don't mortgage anything this year.

I can definitely see them waiting and just sign Price in the off season. But I do think they make a move before the 30th. I've read that they would be interested in Ben Zobrist

Completely agree, I would more so be in favor of getting a cheap rental 5th starter than mortgaging the future for a chance at a one game playoff, especially on a guy who is going to be a FA in the offseason and has heavy Chicago ties.

Rough, rough, rough series. Offense needs to heat or this team isn't going anywhere. I wasn't expecting playoffs at the beginning of the season but after holding a playoff spot for so long, losing out in the final months would be disheartening.

Awful series.

That said, it wouldn't be that much of a shock if the young guys fizzle toward the end of the year. It's a grind and they aren't used to it.

As you said, this year wasn't supposed to be the year to break through. If we recover and make the playoffs, it's just a bonus. But this one certainly felt like a turning point.

Was at the no hitter Saturday. Hamels was tough. Series hurts and probably combines brass to not move assets this year.

Crazy how the entire offense, except for Schwarber, can slump at the same time. I'd really like to see Schwarber playing a corner OF position. His bat is way too valuable to be sitting on the bench 40% of the time.
