In 2020 there were 0 vaccinated Americans.

In 2021 there are over 200,000,000 fully vaccinated Americans.

More Americans died of COVID in 2021 than 2020.

Most of those deaths were early 2021 when the vaccine rollout was occuring. But guess what happened after the rollout?

seamus-coronavirus-d3-us-map-20200312_wide-45b3d93207610fdf6843ac88eb53fb91f6f53461.pngAnd just an FYI. 1% of 330,000,000 is 3,300,000. I am glad you take solice in the fact that 1% is a small number.

Haven't checked this thread for a while, but the last two days are quite entertaining. :swordfight::argue:

The 1% isn't lost on me and the 99% shouldn't be lost on you.

The vaccines I got earlier in life actually worked.

I don't need papers or charts to make these arguments: The original strain has a 99% survival rate, omicron is mild and much less threatening, some people who got the shot have had serious negative consequences, people are double vaxxed and still getting covid, and I support anyone's decision to get the shot, and no employer/ government should force anyone to get it.

BVG thought he was the smartest guy in every room he walked into, and no one on this board is more impressed with you than you. Have fun with your next round of lockdowns.

Also, how do you figure that Omicron is more milder? Hospitalizations and deaths are lagging indicators here and the rate of spread is extremely fast? Again cite your source.

Summer came and people got Vitamin D. COVID and FLU aren't seasonal (you know that right?). It's not like the FLU hibernates in summer, but vitamin D fights off viruses very effectively (among other things).

96% of people who ended in ICU in 2021 were vitamin D Deficient. There are many ways to protect yourself from COVID, Vitamin D, Hydroxy, Ivermectin - these ways just don't make money so you don't hear about them.

It's no coincidence spikes are happening now, regardless of vaccinated status (although early winter results look really bad for vaccinated people).

But there's no money to be made by big pharma pushing Vitamin D!

Why do you constantly ignore the science on Hydroxycloroquine and Ivermectin. They have NO EFFECT on covid after tons of studies. Summer comes in February/March now? Good to know. Again, cite your sources.

Thats fucking brutal.... lmao. yankee is tip toeing into the realm of peddling disinformation .....

The posts

One tweet (here) reads, “Ivermectin is a safe cure that was removed from CDC treatment protocol. Merck refurbishes it and *poof, it’s a miracle pill. Further proof that Big Pharma is in the business of creating customers.”

Similar posts on Facebook are visible here and here .

One reads, in part, “The pharmaceutical giant Merck just “developed” a pill that does the same thing as Ivermectin.”
Dr. Stephen Griffin, virologist and associate professor at the University of Leeds (here), told Reuters that molnupiravir is not repackaged ivermectin.

The two drugs have “dissimilar chemistry,” he said. “There is no way that Merck is doing this,” he said.

“Molnupiravir is a derivative of a nucleotide that, predictably, interferes with the RNA replication of the virus. While Ivermectin does also have a defined mechanism of action, BUT it’s against ion channels found in parasites,” Griffin said.

Information profiles are viewable on Drugs.com for molnupiravir (here) and ivermectin (www.drugs.com/ivermectin.html).

Paul Auwaerter, the Clinical Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases (here) at Johns Hopkins Medicine told Reuters via email that the only similarity the two drugs have is that they “have been brought to the FDA for market approval by the Merck Company.”

The professor pointed to structural differences between the two drugs, which can be explored in papers here and here and drug class differences. “Ivermectin is classified as a macrocyclic lactone. It is derived from Streptomyces avermitilis which is a bacterium." Molnupiravir, rather, is classified as a nucleoside analog (like some HIV medications) and works as an antiviral, he said.

According to August 26, 2021, guidance from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), visible here , ivermectin is a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved prescription medication “used to treat certain infections caused by internal and external parasites.” The drug is not currently approved for the treatment of COVID-19. The CDC document also notes increased “ivermectin dispensing by retail pharmacies has increased, as has use of veterinary formulations available over the counter but not intended for human use.”

The FDA continues to caution the public about the potential risks of ivermectin use for prevention or treatment of COVID-19 as of this article’s publication (here).

Previous Reuters reporting on the dangers of using ivermectin as a treatment for COVID-19 is visible here and here .

Clinical trials studying the effectiveness of the anti-parasitic drug for COVID-19 can be seen here and here .

Merck makes Ivermectin, but the manufacturer has said it does not support its use as a treatment for COVID-19; a February 11 company statement is visible here .

VERDICT

False. Claims that Merck’s antiviral molnupiravir is repackaged ivermectin are false. According to two virologists, the two drugs are chemically different.

This article was produced by the Reuters Fact Check team. Read more about our fact-checking work here .

Your maybe half right on this account. People can harbor the virus and spread disease for ten days after infection. Not all but some. When patients become clinically sick enough for hospitalization we are dealing with two problems. One is the virus and the damage it can cause. Another is the cytokine storm associated with the immunologic response. Because of the second we have to treat the first. Problem is there seems to be quite a variation in both problems. We are learning and outcomes are improving as a result. Example is the extraordinary lengths intensivists are going to to keep people off ventilators. As a medical professional is is really frustrating managing some of these patients. Some do well despite us. Some do poorly despite heroic efforts. ICU nurses are beyond burned out.

If the disease wasn’t enough, you fight an up hill battle because most of the sickest patients are unvaccinated, and many of the very issues playing out on this board complicate ongoing efforts. Imagine if you were trying to help the people in Kentucky after the tornado, and they kept thwarting your efforts because they believed Bill Gates was controlling the weather, and and caused the tornado so he could bug their house.

Thank you so much for the response and the insightful post. I truly appreciate you taking the time to respond. Good luck and God Bless!

That's not true. Ivermectin is not an antiviral drug. Ivermectin has some anti-viral properties in a test tube but for it to be effective against covid in the human body it would require fatal doses of ivermectin (which is why it is not effective against covid in real life trials). The new COVID pill capitalizes on that anti-viral property that ivermectin has, purified it and made it safe for human consumption (at least based on the preliminary data coming out). It is a completely novel drug and it is not ivermectin.

Thank you for the response. In essence, are you not describing "green pilling"? The way it was explained to me by someone who has been in the industry since the 1980's was as follows. When a patent expires, companies will alter the ingredients except for the beneficial agent/agents. They said this was commonplace in the industry and easy to do since most ingredients are just fillers or binding agents. The drug may be reclassified based on the purpose it serves which would lead to a name change. Even a drug like Leronlimab I have mentioned, goes by three different names in trials based on the purpose. Merck saw a beneficial quality like you mentioned in treating covid and are trying to capitalize on it.

Omicron looks as deadly as delta to an immune naive person (median estimate is actually a tad worse. Beta/gamma were the most deadly variants and omicron has some factors more present in beta). The big issue is it totally evades antibody based immunity from natural and non boosted vaccine immunity. It will be milder than in an immune naive person, but prior immunity will be less protective than vs delta. There is some thought that the number and reach of different variant strains in SA plus good vaccination rates in the high risk explain their relatively mild outcomes.

Color me shocked. I bet the vaccinated are all on Ivermectin.
Oh wait, you can't trust the CDC. I forgot.

Like........ the doctor literally spells it out in words in that article. I even quoted it for good measure. He isnt arguing in good faith here becasue his willful posting of Facebook memes/disinformation as fact was cold busted.

Actually, this is a ploy by big pharma. You can go on a strict regime of 14 different vitamins and supplements, and then take therapeutics (definitely not made by pharma) to combat COVID. You don't need stats, you don't peer reviewed research papers, you just need LOgIc.

"I don't need papers or charts to make these arguments" - No not this guy calling me the troll, couldn't be. lol I know I said BVG earlier, but this is getting to be more Bishop Sycamore than a BVG defense.

No, you just couldn't defeat the arguments so you made a snarky joke and called it a day. What was I supposed to do? Put together a chart to show you how many fully vaccinated people are testing positive for Covid? Detail every single person's negative effects after getting the shot? Pull a Harvard based study to show you that young and healthy people are at very minimal risk with Covid?

I could care less if I didn't provide what you wanted to see. The info is out there for all to access. Merry Christmas and have fun in lockdown...again.

1) Everyone I've talked to who's gotten it in the past month (myself included) describes it as the common cold symptoms and losing sense of smell and taste. FFS I as going on 3 mile runs the week I tested positive.

2) To my knowledge, this variant has been around for a month and 10 people in the world have died. I with that number were 0, but it isn't anything near what we saw in 2020.

3) I agree this variant is more contagious and it's spreading like crazy, but the most crucial numbers to watch here are hospitalizations and deaths.

I've literally posted stats that defeat your claims, whether it's in the COVID thread or in any other thread whenever there's stats you cower away, don't engage and don't provide your sources.

You want me to engage you on your anecdotal very true very real stories? I could tell you that I've had 5 friends who've beat cancer by drinking gasoline, but an intelligent person would question that based on the available treatments.

You see how the adults here can boot up the Google machine and pull data or a study? Bobby/Yankee can do it, how do you come to your conclusions if you don't see the data and studies on it? Not sure where you think I live but there hasn't been a semblance of a lockdown here in quite some time.

I was just reading through all of this and I would like to just pose a question. This is not meant to come off as anti-vax or anti-science or pro vax etc. but what are people's thoughts on how the vaccine could have an effect on fertility? I just had my first child 6 months ago and have a group of friends that have also recently had newborns. Everyone has made their own decisions regarding taking the vaccine. Some have taken the vaccine and some have not but in talking to friends that have not taken the vaccine the number one concern is fertility and how could long term side effects been tested yet.
Does anyone know of data?
And for context we are all in our late 20's to early 30's and healthy.
Just curious on thoughts/data regarding this as I can see why this would be a big hesitancy and a valid concern without proper information one way or the other.

Board lurker but felt compelled to share my experience.

Completely anecdotal. Being vaxxed didn’t impact me and my wife. We could be very blessed and not have difficulties conceiving (we weren’t “actively” trying). Our bigger concern was the length of time she was on birth control, but that didn’t turn out to be a problem either.

There is plenty of data suggesting there is no effect on pregnancies or fertility. Except COVID has shown ED in males.

Good for you? 800,000 people haven't shared your results. 10 people in the world? Cite your source. And why do you think this isn't anything like we saw in 2020? The same reason deaths started dropping off in Jan/Feb/March of this year, I'll wait while you look it up. Also deaths are lagging indicators so give it another few weeks before you say its nothing.

New data out indicates even for a mild case COVID negatively impacts sperm quality for several months.

The fertility thing developed like this. Very early on scientists thought the spike protein might resemble the human placenta. The fear was with covid infections you might see a surge in miscarriages. Further experiments showed this didn't pan out. Conspiracy theorists latched onto this to say spike antibodies from vaccination will cause infertility and it became an urban legend.
