You had the kid at LSU walk away and now this? The bad investments might start stacking up rather quickly once the season starts.

Unless DJ at Clemson puts it together I think that'll be another one in the "bust" category

I believe in order for Ewers to cash in he had to be starting QB somewhere. Which is why he left OSU; he was looking for PT.

How long do you think it will be before some of the coaches are “pressured” to start certain players because of the financial investment? I can’t imagine that it isn’t going to happen to some degree.

He burned up a lot of good will with 5-7 last year. A 7 win year would be bad but a 7 win year while the top recruit in the country rides the bench would be blood in the water. I think that's true regardless of NIL. Playing the younger guy helps buy him time.

And yes, I 100% think Texas is willing to fire him after 2 years.

EDIT: Well, the Arch Manning recruitment potentially changes things there.

Tim Prister's article today

• When I think of…Notre Dame and NIL, look for an announcement from Notre Dame next week regarding the FUND Foundation (Friends of the University of Notre Dame) collective spearheaded by Brady Quinn.

Well we know the one thing any collective would not announce is that they are paying for players.

I’ll guess a PR move touting how much ND student athletes have made.

Could also be one of those 'every ND football player gets x amount' deals as well. Which is the equivalent of paying a player that amount but in a legal way. Recruits know that money's coming vs hypotheticals

Knowing ND, they are probably self-reporting FUND to the NCAA, banning anyone who donated to it from campus, and suspending all players who took money.

I work with a former Boise player from the mid 2000s teams and we got to talking NIL today. He said that at the team banquet at the end of the year, when it was time for dessert, everyone but the players would leave and instead of dessert, every player would get a stack of $100s on a plate coming to $5-10K.

I know we like to think of ND as above this, but I’d love to know what above board benefits some of our players have gotten from boosters in recent years pre-NIL.

Rumors 5 star WR Chris Marshall skipped practice

5 star WR Evan Stewart RT’d criticism of Jimbo’s offense

5 star CB Denver Harris drag racing around the parking garage on IG day after the App St loss

Current 5 star Louisville commit Owens clowned A&M on twitter and canceled his visit.

What happens when all you are is a ATM.

Any school relying primarily on NIL is going to be super volatile by nature. Still surprising to me how fast people have flipped on Jimbo. I mean it was one loss and they have a shit ton of young talent.

I've been adamant on ND and the prominent alums/boosters/collectives upping their game to avoid the Keeley/Moore situations.

But I could see what's going on at A&M from a mile away. You combine the messed up priorities that big money can bring to young men, plus the horrid cultural practices that we know Jimbo has implemented, this result is obvious.

You can traverse the NIL maelstrom when you're Nick Saban and you can hold the egos in check. Jimbo has not shown he can do the same.

Chris Marshall was one of the 5 stars each cycle I believe was always known to have some red flags. Like Agiye Hall. So part is you’re taking a kid simply because you can and it’ll look good on signing day

I think that ND needing to do more with NIL and the current disaster at A&M are mutually exclusive.

If this is all accurate, (I know the driving fast in a parking garage is) these guys may be feeding off each other if the culture is weak, but NIL didn't make these kids who they are. Unless they had guidance they trusted, these guys were always going to act out.

I don't think any school is immune to this type of stuff happening.

Senator Tommy Tuberville had an interesting NIL interview on Ruthless Podcast about legislating NIL and fixing it. Said he’s talking to Manchin about it.

Well it's gotta get fixed someway. Having Tubs in the Senate could actually be worthwhile
