Coaching DBs is the only experience he has. If he's not qualified to do even that, he shouldn't have responsibility for any unit.

I completely understand what you are saying.........I'd like to have the Nick Saban/Les Miles/Urban Meyer of each individual position group on the staff. But, really, when we are talking about these assistants; previous experience with that group is, in my opinion, much less of a concern than being a proven teacher. I want smart guys who can pass knowledge on in a manner that players can put to use on the field. If they're smart enough, they will pick up the nuances of the particular position quickly enough. Chuck Weis has an absolutelty brilliant football mind. If you watched his pressers, almost every one of them was practically a clinic in football Xs and Os. But he didn't appear to be able to impart that knowledge to his players, in a useful manner. Some of them (Quinn, Clausen, Tate, Floyd) perhaps, but certainly not enough. It's really hard to find outstanding position coaches with much experience. Most of the really good ones move on to Coordinator jobs very quickly. Just give me smart, motivated, dedicated guys who are outstanding teachers, and I'll retake Iwo Jima with them, if need be.

One of, if not THE greatest example of Americans kicking ***! In just over a month, the US killed 20,000 of the original 21,000 Japanese defenders on the island.

Where's MasterGuns when we need him? He's probably a BGIF-like encyclopedia of knowledge about the Battle of Iwo Jima.

I generally like Eric Hansen, but it annoys the sh!t out of me that he gets his recruiting "news" from Lemming.

He'd do better consulting a Magic 8 Ball.

I think this goes back to the days when there was a weekly Irish Sports Report that was sent out after each game. The SBT was the one that put it out.

Within each issue, there was a column about recruiting and lemming was the one who wrote it.

My hunch is that the relationship started there between the two and there may still very well be a connection with Lemming and the SBT.

Is Wickline a real possibility or just an unsubstantiated rumor? Because if he is a realistic coaching pickup then I'm ****ing pumped!

I'm wondering as well. I've got a semi chub thinking about him coming to ND.

I hope for Wickline too. My old chub would enjoy it.

wouldn't think he'd wait much longer...we're recruiting understaffed right now, which is a huge disadvantage this time of year.

Wickline would be huge. His offensive lines made defensive lines look so porous.

Would he also possimaybe bring some recruiting pipeline to the Texas/Oklahoma area?

Give me a big corn feed offensive line that is well coached, and a great front seven...

and go from there...

I would love Wickline.

Heistand interviewing at Notre Dame - VolNation

they all seem to want him out!!! lol

Offensive line coach Harry Hiestand, in particular, has been under fire. Tennessee was one of the worst running football teams in the country this season, finishing 117th nationally. The Vols were the only team in the SEC this season that averaged fewer than 100 yards rushing per game.

Joe Wickline, the OL coach for Okie State, has been mentioned.

Why he'd want to make a horizontal move from a team that just finished #3 in the polls is beyond me though.
