Between PSU and ISU we got the absolute extremes on both ends of the coaching carousel.
Rogers gutted South Dakota State when he left. A decent number of players and the entire staff followed him to Washington State for him to only last a year there.Wazzu was pretty good considered how much they’ve been gutted for multiple years over and over again. One possession losses to UVA, Ole Miss and JMU. Lost to North Texas and then the Apple Cup. Schedule was unintentionally hard. Beat Toledo and SDSU.
Toledo Coach to UCONN
Terrible move, he’s turned down better jobs than UConn.Toledo Coach to UCONN
It's relatively easy to get the best talent in the MAC at Toledo and impossible to get any at UCONN.Terrible move, he’s turned down better jobs than UConn.
Am I Pat Kraft? Is that guy me?"Michigan is a bunch of cheaters and liars."
Sorry Mr. Kraft, perhaps I judged you too harshly.
Now they can all move back closer to home.Rogers gutted South Dakota State when he left. A decent number of players and the entire staff followed him to Washington State for him to only last a year there.
Turned Marcus down to hitch his wagon to Big Game James. He may be good at coaching defense, but he doesn't know shit about people. Fuck him.Knowles is leaving then?
Man, people take this stuff too personally. It's business. The personalities of the coaches doesn't matter as much as the financial bottom line. You can't really evaluate Knowles decision without knowing the specifics of the competing contract offers.Turned Marcus down to hitch his wagon to Big Game James. I think his departure from OSU is the correct sore spot to poke at, him turning down ND is just business.Man, people take this stuff too personally. It's business. Ash’s defense takes about 2 games to master apparently…Yeah, I don't care if a coach decides not to coach here. Knowles' defense famously takes about two years to master so I'm not sure him coming here would have really made a difference to us this year anyways.

For example PSU could have offered more money and a fully guaranteed 4yr contract with no offset. ND may have offered 3yrs with an offset.
The PSU offer would be better because Knowles won't be unemployed for long and since there is no offset he'd be getting paid twice.

Oh, for sure I wanted Knowles, but I don't hold that personally against him for going to PSU. I was very underwhelmed by the Ash hire and the first two games didn't endear him to me, but with the benefit of perspective now it looks like it all worked out anyways. That may be true, but at the time Al Golden left, and your choices are Knowles or Chris Ash, you are saying you wouldn't have cared whom Notre Dame hired? You must be new here.![]()
Elite news dump timing as Tulane clinches a CFP berth
IIRC, his partner (I don't think they were married at the time) was from Oklahoma, which is why the Oklahoma State job was in consideration.Knowles is also a Philly guy and I’m pretty sure his wife is from the area too
He was also the DC at Oklahoma State prior to Ohio StateIIRC, his partner (I don't think they were married at the time) was from Oklahoma, which is why the Oklahoma State job was in consideration.
So once it was obvious he was leaving Ohio State, he had the choice of going closer to his home, to his partner's home, or Notre Dame. Pretty easy to see why we weren't the pick.
