I wouldn't have believed you if you told me prior to firing Franklin that they would botch the hiring process this badly.
It's an example of how you don't execute the process, that's for sure.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, you'd better have someone committed. Locked, stocked and two smoking barrels ready to come in and accept the job if you open it.
This blew up in their faces pretty hard. Seems like right now the only guy who wants it is Terry Smith. If that's the best they can end up doing, it looks pretty stupid on their part. No offense to Smith, but he pandered to the Joe Pa cult a few weeks ago and he still hasn't been hired. Maybe he doesn't care, as long as he gets it, but the optics are just really bad.
Firing Ty and ending up with Weis instead of Meyer or Stoops was bad, as we know and recall, but this levels beyond that. Not to mention it's 20 years later and this stuff is all typically done through back channels ahead of time. Penn State really screwed this all up regardless of how it turns out.
