This has been the wildest hiring/firing cycle I've ever seen, and it's not over yet. It's like HS when half the couples break up two weeks before prom and everyone's scrambling to find a date or trade up. This is a glorious time to be alive!

And just think... NFL firing / hiring season in full force hasn't even begun!

I don’t get the decision if the they legitimately matched the offer. It’s not like Ole Miss was Tulane, if he’s actually a $100 million coach there’s no reason he couldn’t have turned the program into a consistent national power (I guess I’ve seen rumors about having less NIL money?) and if he succeeded there would be golden statues of him getting felated all over campus.
Yes...lol... exactly.

He built a well oiled machine at Ole Miss, walking away from a potential Natty to go to LSU in 2025 makes zero sense in my brain. Zero

It’s thanksgiving weekend and people are heckling through the fence at the airport, lol!
That's football in the south my friend. We are fans up here. These people live, breathe, eat, sleep, shit with their team. Been to a handful of games in the south, and its a whole different animal down there

You gotta factor in that for the most part, most don't have NFL teams either.

100% correct. Outside of the Florida teams, saints, Falcons, Titans, now Texas teams, college is all they have, and they are damn proud and dedicated to their teams

All the reporting that I read around this the last few weeks is that Ole Miss, LSU, and UF were all putting forth more or less matching offers and had made the same NIL pledges so it was all going to come down to preference. For whatever reason, UF pulled out 2 days ago and that left OM and LSU.

Lane is extremely egotistical and flamed out hard at a premier/blue blood program before and perhaps he wants to succeed at a top job. Whether anyone on this board agrees or not, the perception of a job like LSU is that it's better than a job like Ole Miss.

This is Lane's 6th year at Ole Miss, he's not going to get 6 years to make his first playoff at LSU. If he replicates his tenure at Ole Miss he will be fired in 3-4 years. I get these guys don't approach anything thinking that way (and that's honestly good for them, too many people get paralysis by analysis), but at Ole Miss he basically had a lifetime gig if he wanted it and chance to have the field named after him or something similar.

I'll only speak for the Falcons as I've been to 50 games over the years. Nobody cares about the W/L like they do about the Bulldogs. You go to Falcon games to Party...eat, drink and dance. The NFL game playing is a bonus when going to Mercedes Benz.

I don't think USC was an easier job. I mean I guess playing in the PAC but the scholarship cuts/lmits had to be hard to deal with at the time
That's true, but he never did anything to really fundamentally make them any better and his tenure was trending down. In fact, that seems to be a pattern for USC coaches post-PC: splashy first year with a steady decline in performance.

Call me crazy but the days of LSU being a top 5 job are long gone. With the new landscape who's to say Vandy (so to speak relax) isn't a better landing spot. This isn't 2010, it's all a little more even and places willing to spend the money like Texas Tech may all the sudden be tougher to go through than 15 years ago. BK and Kiffin are going to be prime examples. I'll bet after 3+ years...BK and LK have very similar winning %

Yeah…we’re the next Minnesota or Iowa. Ultimately, we had 1 target in mind, Kiffin. We wanted him, Florida wanted him, and Ole Miss was doing everything to keep him. At the end of the day, our “poor, dumpster fire” got him.

I’d rather be in a state with a shitload of talent at every corner than not. LSU will be just fine.

Now THIS is funny.

@CAA_Football that Godfrey tagged is the twitter acct for Lane's agents.

Edit: his agents hired some bots to promote/defend Lane on twitter.

I didn't say that. I'm saying who cares about LA talent when you have NIL. If you think over the next 30 years (forget the past) LSU is going to be some top landing spot while spending money like Texas, Texas Tech, A&M, Oregon, and Ohio St. I'd say you are wrong. Neither one of us will know for many years. But the landscape that made LSU a top 5 job is gone...you can agree with that right?

As soon as NIL hit we've seen the SEC lose a strangle hold on the Natty. Put 5 sec teams in, and I'll still bet the champ comes from the B10 or ND. This year may be 3 years in a row....blink and it will be a decade.

Saints are really the only NFL franchise with a legit fan base in the South. Nobody cares about theTitans/Falcons/Panthers/Jags/Bucs.

NOLA is a Saints town first

Given that Ed wasn’t let go because of his record, I don’t think the administration would consider it.

“Two guys who know a thing or two about the Iron Bowl, Lane Kiffin and Pete Golding, were a state away in the Manning Center at Ole Miss.

"Why don't you take your ass home to watch the rest of that?" Golding said to Kiffin, per a source. "This isn't your office anymore."

Kiffin is trying so hard to be like Saban when he's being interviewed - from the positioning himself where he can look into the camera to the hand gestures while speaking. The man has no authenticity at all.
OMG, that's where the hand gestures come from. I knew they seemed familiar but odd on him. That's it though.
