How about Tommy Rees? A step back into the college world and one on his way to being HC at a top FBS program. Why not?
I would want to go somewhere that isn’t a complete failure.

He chose to coach on offense for the Browns.I would want to go somewhere that isn’t a complete failure.
Then they’ll get what they deserve when they fire him in two seasons. If you were a Penn State fan, you'd be EATING UP what he just did this past weekend paying tribute to Paterno.
He's from PA, played for PSU and has been coaching there since 2014. I don't know about the internet crowd, but I'm going to guess that there is a good enough contingent of PSU fans that want this guy now and that contingent is likely going to grow in the days ahead.
And he might be the only person right now that genuinely wants the job.
Sounds like a them problem. Then they’ll get what they deserve when they fire him in two seasons.
Really? Rees feels to me like a natural born coordinator. Very good x's and o's but doesn't have face-of-the-program charisma. Which is not to say he'll never be a head coach - I think he probably will - just doesn't feel like it'd make sense for him so young. And Cal's a tough job. Why make that your move?I’ve been meh on him as a coordinator but I have a gut feeling he could jump into a HC role and thrive.
Cal has Rivera as a GM so it seems like the onus on the HC would just be purely on the football/strategy side. A situation like that would help someone like Rees or any young coach tbfReally? Same. I think he is going to have suitors for open DC jobs, though. You'd assume he would anyway.I wouldn't mind Justin Wilcox being brought in as an analyst now that Cal fired him.
It's been an eternity in CFB years, but he was a pretty good DC I thought before his Cal coaching days.Same. I think he is going to have suitors for open DC jobs, though. You'd assume he would anyway.
Maybe Navy can pull the upset over Memphis w/ this distraction…Nah they’ll lose their last two games…lol![]()
$12 million head coach emerges as top candidate to replace Sam Pittman at Arkansas
The Arkansas Razorbacks appear to be closing the book on an extended search for their next head coach. Arkansas fired Sam Pittman on September 28 after the teamwww.si.com
Arkansas and Ryan Silverfield might be close.
I guess Bobby P wasn't able to close the deal.![]()

So he should retain Petrino as OC & future interimI think the Jim Mora hire is a really good one for CSU. People love to talk about that place as one of untapped potential. Don’t think Mora will be the guy to reach that potential, but with his background he should be the guy who gets the infrastructure in place to make it possible for the next guy.
Silverfield I think is going to flop hard. Guy couldn’t ever live up to expectations in Memphis despite having more resources than the vast majority of the American. Don’t see him doing well at a second class SEC program
What were the expectations at Memphis he didn't live up to? He's won 29 games the last three seasons and wins bowl games. His stock probably won't be higher.I think the Jim Mora hire is a really good one for CSU. People love to talk about that place as one of untapped potential. I’d argue inheriting a team that won back to back conference championships and then never making it in 6 years is a failure to live up to expectations. Especially when the conference has gotten much weaker and the program is flush with FedEx moneyWhat were the expectations at Memphis he didn't live up to? That's fair. He seems to have lived up to his administration's expectations, though. He got hired as an assistant in 2016. They've stuck with him and he could be poised for three straight double digit win seasons. Maybe that's enough for them and maybe it's good enough for Arkansas?I’d argue inheriting a team that won back to back conference championships and then never making it in 6 years is a failure to live up to expectations. Tommy Rees would fit well as HC at USF, IMO...His wife has the connection right? Makes sense.
