For who in the right mind would want to live in Minnesota? Every time I’ve had to go to that place, it’s not been pleasant. Between the crappy weather, terrible looking women, and bad food, why would anyone not from that area want to be there? And that’s not even beginning with the Libtard mindset…
Minnesota boundary water area is beautiful. I took a trip up there with my Dad for a week when I was younger, and we loved it. Its too bad some of the beautiful states have, ummm...questionable governance. However, I suspect it is more the cities that struggle than the beautiful countryside places, tbh. Without getting too political.

I hate to delve into politics, but no one state is a monolith. Twice now I've seen you say Minnesota is full of "libtards." If you look at an electoral map of Minnesota it's really only the Twin Cities and the area around Duluth that are deep blue, the rest of the state is pretty conservative. I get the U of M is in the Cities, but the outer lying suburbs are not radical strongholds.

Politics will poison your perception of a place and every place I've lived has had people on the far right, the far left, and everywhere in between. Some of the most "conservative" people I know are from Oregon and Washington, not places you would really associate with right wing politics. It happens.

The reason a lot of dumb people like politics is they can just pick a side and not have to worry about critical thinking.

....I disagree. "Rural" people being right wing is a pretty common stereotype.

Now the reality that the highest concentration of sundown towns are in Illinois. I think that's some right wing politics most wouldn't expect.

Minnesota in no way has an advantage, certainly not a "massive" one in fanbase size over VT. I have deep ties to Minnesota and can count on one hand how many people I know who give a shit about the Gophers. VT is a much better job than Minnesota and has an actual path to playoff contention. Minnesota is in a good year will compete for the 8-10 slot in the B1G.
My Dad is one of the die-hard Gopher fans. They had struggled to fill their stadium for a while before Fleck. VT has committed fans and nearly all of their alumni care about the football team, which is really different from the Gophers. The Vikings dominate the football appetite of the market, that's pretty much the end of the story for the U. Fleck has injected some energy but its not disimilar to Key at Tech, the differences being PJ isn't an alum and he's had a lesser degree of success than Key.

The Twin Cities is the smallest market to have teams in all four major pro sports. They also have an MLS soccer team and a Big Ten school whose historically best sport is not football but rather hockey. There's only so much money and attention to go around. And Minnesota football has never been especially good. No wonder they struggle to draw eyeballs.

Well, they were good in the '50s, to be fair.

Wait, what? At one time, Minnesota was as dominant in football as Yale and Army and our beloved Notre Dame. Some of you younger folks need to crack open the history books.
Yep, among current FBS teams, the powers before WW2 were Notre Dame, Michigan, and Minnesota. Minnesota not only won 3 of the first 6 AP National Championships, but they were undefeated in the three years immediately prior, and they were generally a juggernaut well before that. Haven't won a NC since 1960, but they do have history.

Drinkwitz is 0 - 15 at Missouri against teams with a winning record in SEC play. He is 1 - 9 against Top 10 teams. The context is certainly different than Franklin but it would be hilarious to hire a coach just loaded with hate stats just like Franklin.

Drink’s biggest credit off field is he has signed/kept a lot of in state Missouri talent home. Wonder if PSU sees OSU and ND eating PSUs lunch at home and has that as a reason.

They were indeed. As late as the 1960s they competed for NC. In that era, they were able to take advantage of segregation down south and sign future HOFers like Bobby Bell, Carl Eller & Charlie Sanders.

Still feels like it's the best hire they can make right now. Is it fair to say he's done more with less at Mizzou? I guess Franklin did at Vanderbilt, too, though.

It's a rough market. I think it is a good hire for Penn State if they can pull it off.

I don’t know he’s done more with less. He’s provided Missouri a nice floor where they basically don’t lose games to teams they shouldn’t (non con, Kentucky, Miss St, Arkansas etc) plus they usually beat the volatile mess SEC teams like an Auburn. Missouri has the NIL and support to justify that. So he takes care of business, not really more than that yet though. Sounds like James Franklin….

What is his ceiling at Mizzou would thus be the question. This is probably it. Does Penn State believe he can surpass what Franklin did, and does Drinkwitz believe he can beat Ohio State and Michigan at Penn State?

Most importantly, what other options does Penn State realistically have?

He already beat OSU while he was at Mizzou. One of the very few wins he's had against a ranked opponent.

Was that the Cotton Bowl when the Buckturds had Joe Flipperhead at QB instead of Kyle McCord?

Point taken, but I'm talking about big picture. Can Drinkwitz go to Penn State and have some ebb and flow within that particular series along with Michigan?

Feels like ebb and flow with these series don't really exist anymore. One program goes on long streaks against a rival, then it flips. Cooper couldn't beat Michigan. Tressel and Lord Florida never lost to them. Now Day is having Cooperish struggles with Michigan, too.

Drinkwitz might be the best PSU can do if Freeman, Rhule, Cignetti are all saying no.

Not sure if he's the best PSU can do, but would certainly take him over Rhule. I think Drink would be crazy not to take the job over Mizzou. Seems like they're willing to commit resources, and they have a realistic path to 10 wins/year over the next few years, which puts them in the playoffs more often than not.

I really don’t know how much they’ll lose this year, but if he can get something going in the portal this offseason, I could see them winning 10 games next year. Take a look at that schedule. Woof.

If Drink gets offered the PSU job he should start packing today, that's a much better job than Missouri. I think he's a better coach than Rhule, but I don't think he's a coach who can take PSU over the top, but I think he replicate Franklin's tenure. Probably not what PSU was hoping for when they canned Franklin but I see that as probably their best case right now.

If he is a viable option and Rhule isn't, seems like a no brainer. I would agree with you that Penn State is a better job than Missouri, and I think Drinkwitz can coach ball when all is said and done. If he stayed at Mizzou he could probably have the longevity success that Devine and Pinkel had there, but he's not going to win the SEC much less a National Championship.

Penn State has to see the tide is shifting now. There is parity and some of the power has shifted to the north out of the south. Drinkwitz might see this as well. For Penn State, he's a more seasoned hire than Chesney, Golesh, etc.

I think the problem, wouldn’t even call it problem what do I care, the irony is their two top targets are both safe options: Rhule and Drinkwitz. That is the same Coach profile as Franklin. I think if you’re an AD who doesn’t want to get fired but wants boosters to sign checks, makes all the sense in the world.

If you are a PSU fan, I think they want PSU to take a risk and try to win a championship. Like a Hartline. The most likely outcome is Drinkwitz is directionally the same as Franklin. Are we talking 2 - 6 versus OSU or 0 - 8 versus OSU instead of 1 - 7 (example not factual stat) is the line you’re likely drawing

Mizzou fans I get the sense they like, they don’t love Drinkwitz. They love Kirby Moore. That will be essential to hiring Drinkwitz is what Kirby does.

To his credit, Kirby Moore and Blake Baker were both A++ hires

I can see rolling the dice on Hartline. I really wonder if it's something he wants, though, but who knows.

If he proves his acumen as more than a recruiter, and does it at Penn State, it would be pretty interesting.

I have to assume Moore will be elevated to HC by Mizzou, no? Seems like that would be the best move for them.

Franklin to VT seems like it's getting closer according to Hokie twitter and their message boards.
