All indications were he was fired earlier in the week it just wasn’t announced till today.

Miss St result didn’t matter. Ahead of a bye week then Cocktail Party.
Correct. The boosters stepped in and forced the AD's hand who did not want to do this. The boosters and power players want Lane there. Word is the AD doesn't like him, but I'm not sure he's going to be free to make another G5 hire.

Sounds like Florida and FSU are both firing their coaches today.

Think Alex Golesh gets one of those jobs.

Nothing against Golesh but I think the alums and boosters would burn Ben Hill Griffin to the ground if Stricklin (the AD) hires another G5 guy. I think he's FSU's if they want him. Although they're also firing a former G5 guy so I'm not sure how they feel about it.

Do you really think either of those programs will go back to the G5 well, though, right after they got burned by going w/a G5 coach this last time?

I think Golesh is deserving, for sure, just that UF and FSU might be a little gun shy.

Interesting. Not sure exactly whom FSU would target but I’ve seen a few fans openly cheer for James Franklin. Considering FSU crying poor so much recently that may be a relatively cost effective replacement. It also means MFMF could keep Small Game James as a whipping boy.

Freeman mentioned on UF coaching hot board at 247. Not sure why every schools opening mentions him when it’s highly unlikely he would leave ND right now.

Andy Staples had him on Florida’s coaching board too, basically said they should at least call and he’ll say no

All these tv contracts are going straight to coach buyouts.
What a fucking joke.
FSU will take private equity money and give it immediately to a coach they’ll fire in 4 years. But the damage will be done and their program will be sold.

I can’t take anybody saying Florida or Penn State should go after Freeman. This isn’t 2005. This isn’t Brian Kelly that has been looking to leave since 2012. ND is putting more resources towards winning than UF or PSU. Why leave?

Freeman won’t leave here especially when the 2026 class is gonna be top 5 and 2027 could be even better

Franklin would do well at FSU. Very easy schedule most years, no pending death star like OSU or spymasters Michigan waiting around to box them out. James Franklin vs Mario Cristobal is the definition of a stoppable force meeting a moveable object. If they fire Norvell and call him, he should answer.

Uh...he went to championship game last year and is one of the biggest, if not the biggest young and upcoming coach in college football. He's gonna get calls, and get a raise.

I remember thinking "no way BK is going to LSU". So im going to remain cautious and enjoy MFMF for as long as I can.
Apples and oranges imo. BK was here 12 years and it had just run its course. We made a token effort to keep him iirc, but it seemed like we were fine with him walking. I'm very confident we would fight tooth and nail to keep MF if it came to it.

The inside baseball was Kelly’s agents went to ND around the Wisconsin game and asked for an extension that ended up being identical to his LSU deal. Even with as stale as things were, we could have kept him if we really wanted to.

Pretty clear to me this particular deal (the years, amount, and buyout) are in BK's mind, his retirement fund.

Nebraska finally gets ranked again, only to get crushed by Minnie. Wow.
Oddly enough, this seems to be par for the course for Nebraska. Started the season just inside the Top 25 last year, then immediately lost. They later cracked the Top 25 again, immediately lose again. Before that they went unranked going back to 2019, same thing...crack Top 25 in 2019, immediately lose.

Other than one year in 2016 under Mike Riley, Nebraska hasn't been consistently ranked in the Top 25 since Bo Pelini was let go in 2014. Almost every week he was there Pelini had Nebraska ranked in the Top 25 from '09-'14. The Huskers haven't been the same since.
Pellini was the BK 2.0 of that time by manufacturing 9-10 win seasons against Chattanooga and Wyoming. After the last two seasons where Nebraska lost the Big12 championship game, Pellini lost just about every game that mattered.

Lol...Ryan Day? Seriously. I said young and up coming....not consistently on the hot seat and hated by the majority of the fanbase.
He won a NC and recruits top classes. The point is he isn’t leaving for another college job. Like Freeman. It doesn’t matter Freeman is young and up coming. The idea he would go to UF and PSU is silly - those jobs are a step down.
