Is there any chance that Petrino gets to keep the job? Would Arkansas go down that path again?

The first two are legit. Add GJ Kinne & the USF HC as well. I think Kinne was QB at Tulsa when they beat ND in BK’s first year. That was the game where poor Dayne tore his patellar tendon & BK insisted Rees throw into coverage for a interception vs kicking the FG

Sadly, yes. If he can miraculously finish 5-2 but no one believes that happens. They are worst program in America if they hitch their wagon to him again. What has he done since the motorcycle ”accident”?

BTW, he just let go of his DC + 2 defensive assistants. He allegedly had an altercation w/ the DC in preseason. Their DC was a Broyles award finalist last year but this year they have a worse D than ND

Lashlee signed a six year extension in November taking him to 2030. His contract and buyout are unclear because SMU is private.

I have to think it's going to cost Arkansas to get him in the end.

Wild times we're in.

Timing doesn’t seem ideal for Lashlee & I doubt UA could deliver on his program demands. Don’t rule out Lashlee’s HS Coach as a candidate. If FSU can get to the CFP, Malzahn may finally get his chance at Arkansas. I think that’s a bad move too b/c they need a non-divisive candidate to bring the fanbase & the administration together. Petrino & Malzahn don’t do that.

All these changes early makes me wonder, are we going to start seeing coordinators leave mid season for a lucrative head job?

The first two names I heard for the Arkansas job this morning were Petrino and Gus Malzahn. If I were a Hogs fan, I'd be as deep in the mud as humanly possible.

I don't see either one as a forward thinking hire. If you consider those guys, you may as well put Jimbo Fisher into the mix.

Morris, Silverfield, Kinne, Traylor, Sumrall would all look like better bets.

That's the thing about Lashlee and SMU. Before Covid, before realignment and everything else it's probably a no brainer. Now SMU is probably a better job. Or you have an example like Chadwell at Liberty. He's getting paid like a P4 coach.

Different times we're in.

Nothing is off of the table these days, though I could see some issues coming from that in terms of contracts and legality, right?

There are currently five P4 jobs open. I'd argue of those five, Arkansas is the best one vs UCLA, OkSt, Va Tech and Stanford.

Lot of mid season firings. Is that a tactical move to protect rosters? It's almost impossible for current players to leave in the middle of the season to go somewhere else, do you think this is something AD's are doing to prevent wholesale roster raids by other programs?

OK St might still be the best if they buy in

That's my take too. The "Big" 12 is wide open for the taking. It wasn't that long ago that Ok St was a decent team, they could easily get there again. The current teams on top are Iowa State, Arizona St, BYU, and Texas Tech, not exactly a murderer's row.
If.

There is still something to be said for Arkansas being an SEC job, though.

There's something to be said for Arkansas being an SEC doormat. Yeah, the next coach could be a Clark Lea type and bring up the Razorback profile, but there's a better chance of getting stomped and ruining a career.

I don't entirely understand the logic of all these firings three or four games into the season.

You're still paying the guy and you're going to keep most of the staff intact at least through the regular season. I'm not sure how it prevents transfers. If anything, knowing my coach isn't coming back might push me to sit out and transfer now while I can still save the year of eligibility. Yes you're at the front of the line to hire the next guy, but if you're going after other sitting head coaches (or even coordinators) it's unlikely you're actually going to close that deal before the regular season ends. All you're doing is creating a vacuum at the top of your program for two months.

Mostly it seems like a move to appease angry donors/boosters. To show you're "serious" and "doing something!"

Guys used to get until mid October/6 games. It's all about getting a head start on the candidate field.

It's mostly what you said, though. Showing action and appeasing the people putting money into your program.

Damn were Gruden and Stoops waiting in line for chat too?
I just laugh when Gruden’s name continually comes up. I think it came up in UT coaching search b/c his wife was a cheerleader there or something. Then, of course; ND b/c his dad was RB Coach there. I think he does have some similar connection to AR but to want to recycle guys who A) are proven failures like Petrino or B) have never been HC in college &/or out of coaching for some time is desperate.
