Va Tech and UCLA are both career suicide. It's not 2005 anymore.
I do agree that UCLA is career suicide now. The move to the B1G is going to destroy their football program. They simply will never be able to compete there.Disagree on VT. They would be poised to make a run in the ACC with the right coach at the helm. UCLA has made some disastrous decisions despite the huge locationa advantage they have
While every program is a megadonor away from contention, I agree, I would stay the hell away from UCLA right now.I do agree that UCLA is career suicide now. The move to the B1G is going to destroy their football program. They simply will never be able to compete there.
VT, I agree can be a good job because of it's conference. VT is also a job with relatively reasonable expectations. No one is expected to go in there and win multiple titles and dominate. The right fit there, a guy who can really build a strong culture could have them in the playoff hunt pretty regularly in my opinion.
Plus, Enter Sandman!!While every program is a megadonor away from contention, I agree, I would stay the hell away from UCLA right now.
In addition to a less competitive conference and reasonable expectations, VT has (admittedly tenuous) in-state supremacy in underrated recruiting grounds. There are Lawrence Taylors, Bruce Smiths, Allen Iversons, and Michael Vicks to be had.
If I was Metallica I'd be embarrassed to be associated with VT right now.Plus, Enter Sandman!!
I gotta think Cignetti goes to the highest bidder this off-season... right?
I'm not a Cignetti fan, but IU is spending the money to get players. He might be legit. If Cignetti is smart he gets out after this year. Deion should have gotten out after last season. He's had the benefit of weak scheduling and a few transfers to make them look good. The schedule is slightly tougher next year with OSU, USC, and Michigan, not to mention they have to fly out to Washington who is looking better this year and could be difficult.
That's the beauty of the ACC. No one's that dominant - especially if one thinks Clemson is fading and FSU continues to wander in irrelevance - and there's a lot of talent in Virginia and North Carolina. It does not appear that the Belichick experiment will succeed at UNC, and UVA's nothing special.I do agree that UCLA is career suicide now. Who dares challenge Dabo's authority?
100%
I’ve posted this many times so scroll on if it’s redundant but ask any average CFB fan to name the coach who preceded these big name coaches who won it all at their respective school:
Mack Brown @ Texas
Steve Spurrier @ UF
Howard Schnellenberger @ Miami
Pete Carroll @ SC
Nick Saban @ LSU
Gene Stallings @ Bama
Nick Saban @ Bama (name all 4)
99.9% of CFB fans can’t name all the HC who preceded the above w/ the assistance of Google or AI.
Collin Klein has been thrown out there
-John Malkovich.

Pay zat man his money. He was great in "In the Line of Fire"
Don't think he's going anywhere. IU is finally putting money into the football program, and he's pretty much guaranteed 9-3 every year in the B10. Why would he leave for another job when he's got a pretty nice situation in Bloomington?
He's also making $8 million a year. While that's clearly not top dollar in today's world of CFB, I don't think IU would have any issues meeting any contract he might get offered from another school.
I get that you're playing around, but you do know Gerry DiNardo was an All-American at ND, right?-John Malkovich.

Dude's ego is massive. Its not going to be satisfied with 9 wins in Bloomington
They don't have the great history that Miami and FSU have, they aren't in a talent rich area, the talent they do develop will get snatched up by bigger programs, and their NIL is almost nonexistent.Disagree on VT. They would be poised to make a run in the ACC with the right coach at the helm. UCLA has made some disastrous decisions despite the huge locationa advantage they have

Sad day we live in when IU is more of a football school than a basketball school.Don't think he's going anywhere. So Va. Tech has a lane if they can grab it, and with the right coach and backing there's no reason they couldn't thrive - by which I mean become a consistent contender for conference titles and at-large CFP spots, but not to the point that not making the CFP would be viewed as a failed season.
He sure was but he was not a great HC. He was solid and did better than his predecessor but that was a low bar. LSU has never been the same since DiNardo was fired…and that’s a good thing for LSU. I remember reading an article on Saban & when he took Sparty down to Shreveport to face LSU in the Independence Bowl he realized that he needed to coach in the South to get the type of athletes he saw across the field from him. DiNardo’s Tigers beat Saban handily, but Nick got the last laugh as he accepted the HC job to replace DiNardo soon after that bowl game.I get that you're playing around, but you do know Gerry DiNardo was an All-American at ND, right?
All true except I believe Saban's perspective wasn't so much that he needed Southern players so much as he couldn't build the program he wanted so long as he had to compete with UM for area recruits, which is perhaps both understandable and strange since he was outrecruiting UM for HS legends like TJ Duckett and Charles Rogers, in addition to pulling in distant studs like Plaxico. (I was attending MSU while Saban was there. I delivered him a pizza, and at 5'8" I felt like I was towering over him.)He sure was but he was not a great HC. I agree and the stability of the ACC and TV money isn’t close to what the B1G hasDon't think he's going anywhere. Yeah, it's 2025. Make $5M a year and get bought out when you get fired, go land on TV or at an assistant coaching job. Maybe even be a head coach again.Va Tech and UCLA are both career suicide. It's not 2005 anymore.
He could potentially be the most powerful person on campus winning 9 football games a year.Dude's ego is massive. Its not going to be satisfied with 9 wins in Bloomington
He’s going to have more than 9 wins in both his first 2 seasons. What are you talking about.Dude's ego is massive. Its not going to be satisfied with 9 wins in Bloomington
