I would not be surprised to see him back on the staff next year. Too many connections. Rees apparently liked him, he coached Stuckey one year with the Cardinals, and he played with Golden at Penn State. Plus, the NCAA may allow analysts to coach during practices next year. If that's the case, he's pretty useful given he has coached QBs, WRs, and TEs.

Something funny I noticed looking these guys up. Golden played TE, but ended up coaching defense. McNulty played Safety, but ended up coaching offense. I know that's not uncommon, but I find it funny that former teammates could be back on the same team, but both switching sides.

Report: Broncos interviewed former Stanford Head Coach David Shaw

People forget he spent ten years coaching in the League as an assistant before he went to Stanford. Then while at Stanford, his name came up every so often in the NFL coaching carousel rumor mill each year. His father coached in the League for 20+ years with multiple teams.

NFL teams could do, and have done, a lot worse than David Shaw. His Stanford program started to fall off before Covid and he's getting out now while it is going to be even harder for Stanford to win in college football. An NFL job seems like the next logical step. I think he wouldn't have a great deal of trouble earning the respect of a locker room. He can't do any worse than Urban Meyer did.

It’s not, they already interviewed Jim Caldwell and have interviews planned with DeMeco Ryans and Rahim Morris next week.

It seems like they are just interviewing anyone that is available with the big interviews really happening next week.

The only thing that ever bothered me about David Shaw was Stanford beating ND five times in seven years, which was purely competitive more than it was emotional. ND fans used to really go after the guy on Twitter and it was above and beyond sour grapes and sore loser stuff. Stanford is one of the few ND rivals I can actually respect since the 40 year decision and academic excellence message has been drilled into my head for four decades as an ND Fan.

It is completely logical why NFL teams would have an interest in interviewing him.

Shaw seems like his floor is Lovie Smith, who was respected enough to be given a third chance just last year. He’d command the respect of an NFL locker room, but I’m not certain his offenses would be all that great.

Depends who he hires. I assume it would be Pep Hamilton, who was just Lovie's OC with the Texans. LOL

Lovie and Cully before him were only hired because the Texans were intent on tanking, both overachieved and both were fired after 1 season each. Tokenism by the NFL at its finest

Interesting takes.

Cully's only season landed the third pick. Lovie's only season got the second pick, and to his credit, he knew he was getting fired and coached his ass off to win that last game which is nothing if not hilarious. Maybe they did overachieve due to the incompetence of the front office.

Is there any chance that Texans GM Nick Caserio is just an ass clown? He was the Director of Player Personnel for the Patriots for years in name only because Belichick ultimately had the final say on the roster. Very possible this is just another apple to fall off of the New England tree that isn't going to amount to having success outside of that organization upon leaving.

He's officially on the hot seat now. Can't mess around forever. He's got the DeShaun Watson picks on top of back to back Top 3 picks too. He could prove to be a complete chooch, and I bet he does.
