Should be a good game too.

Yeah, I was just about to start a thread on this. Abromaitis is on fire as we speak as well.

I love the final comment when he said "I don't think that coming here and going 8-4 is gonna give everybody warm fuzzies". lol

He can't say that winning 8 games is going to keep his ass off the hot seat. He acknowledges that he has to be better then that which is very good.

8-4 would give most of us warm and fuzzies.

That's funny that he said that about the 8-4 season. I was just thinking to myself yesterday, "What is a record next year that I would be satisfied with?" I decided upon 8-4 - it's not like I would be jumping for joy, but I think I would feel that it was "a good start" (to quote Kelly again). Especially with the difficult games at the beginning of next year's season, I think that 8-4 mark would allow me to relax a little bit.

8-4 would be disappointing. Despite the garbage record over the past three years, ND is loaded with talent at almost every position. I think that Kelly is a good enough coach to make the talent show up on saturdays. 10-2 sounds about right to me.

I never said that I didn't think 10-2 was possible, but I don't think we should feel "disappointed" if we are not 10-2 this year. That would mean a 6-2 record against Michigan, Michigan State, Stanford, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Navy, Utah, and USC - with all of the others considered to be relatively easy wins. That's not exactly an easy task - especially given the change in schemes we are undergoing. I'm just saying that we shouldn't over-reach in our expectations for our team in the first year of what I think will be a tremendous new era. I can't say enough good things about Kelly, but let's allow him a little bit of comfort room before we start expecting (read: demanding) 10-2 seasons. Here's to hoping for one tho! :)

I said it before, I'll say it again. Stop dissecting the season and settling for a set amount of wins or giving a high/low ceiling/floor.

This is loser mentality. Nobody ever did this until around 10 years ago.

Under Charlie I was excited about the future in a hoping kind of way, This guy has me relaxed and I cant really put my finger on why but deep down I know this guy just wins games. He will not go 11-1 or 10-2 but 8 or 9 wins in my opinion may be a write it down. I have never been this relaxed about Notre Dame football since the days of Lou. Good times coming boys-I now hear the train again-and its pushing hard.

I agree totally. I didn't mean it to sound like an educated prediction or an ultimatum when I said that about 8-4. I agree that we should look at Kelly's body of work and be excited about the future.

I agree with Mike Frank when he said the thing that made him most excited about NSD 2010, was that Kelly didn't seem satisfied. His direct quote was, "It was a good start." I think he is very happy with the personal quality of the kids that he recruited. But he made a strong point of saying that the defensive recruiting needs to improve next year. Possibly the thing I am most happy about is how every assistant coach who is interviewed always talks about Kelly's visionary and management ability - two things desperately needed in order to make the nation's most storied football program successful again.

For anyone who didn't get a chance, listen to "Power Hour." It is certainly a long one, but many of the incoming recruits were interviewed. I would say the one I am most excited about, based on his interview, is Danny Spond. I think we are getting a top-notch guy in him - both as a person and as a player. Also, I would highly encourage anyone to watch Hinton's interview with Jack on und.com. I absolutely love this guy, and I think the players and recruits will as well. He is hilarious and proficient at the same time!

I agree, the power hour was packed with information from these newest signee's. It was great to hear Spond's comments about working hard, and Heggie, I love his attitude coming in. I text my buddy immediately after the power hour and said, these guys are special....they might not be the best recruits we ever had, but they are all winners, and all have great attitudes. I can't wait.

was just thinking...can't remember when I was this cool about a coaching selection. Yea, I still wonder if he is the guy. Honestly, I wanted Stoops. But if I recount my feelings when we hired BD, TW...I responded with explitives. With CW, just like you, I was hopeful, but worried. With BK, I figure at least he's won in the college ranks as a HC...as others have pointed out in threads gone by, when we hire a winner with DI HC experience, we seem to do pretty well...We shall see, but I'm enjoying the sobriety, and far fewer TUMS in my diet right now. Go BK...I hope YOU ARE WHO WE THINK YOU ARE!

I received a robo-call from ND yesterday stating that BK would be giving his first speaking engagement as ND coach at an ND baseball team fundraiser this coming Tuesday at the Purcell Pav. Since they called me in Vegas, and it is probably snowing and butt ass cold in IN - I won't be going. But I thought I'd pass on the info. Tix are $45 and available at Notre Dame Official Athletic Site if someone wants to go.
I'd love to hear what he says.

PHGreek/BearGB- I agree and also feel like this coach will bring in big time talent when the program starts winning, he's never had the opportunity to tap into that kind of talent that Notre Dame can provide. Honestly I am relaxed and see this guy as a general who can delegate but has the hands on knowledge to make corrections when necessary. Kelly is different than average cat who coaches-question is can he win fast enough to get kids excited on a national level. I think he can. If he does you will see the pull of Notre Dame football in full bloom.
