i would LOVE to see where there are any rumors of elko not happy at TAMU ....because i haven't seen or heard any of these rumors and actually have seen quite the opposite...love to be wrong here

Like you, I have only seen these rumors since Lea took the Vandy job.

Coaches come and go all the time switching schools, coaching positions, etc. Wouldn't surprise me if Elko ended up back here.

There are a ton of good X's & O's guys. The key is to find one who is also a good recruiter.

I don’t really give a shit if they put Monk Malloy up in the box as DC as long as we keep the same system. It’s worked wonders for us and it’s a system we seem to be able to recruit for. Unlike Diaco’s 3-4 OLB position where we always had 12 guys at one position and only 1 player who could play the other.

Malloy as ND DC has 2020 written all over it. See Joe Biden and Tony LaRussa.

White dudes pushing 80 yrs of age getting big gigs.

As a HC. Question is would his defense translate.

Possibly, but I think his time has come and gone since Louisville. I'm liking the younger trend of coaches and the energy they bring to the table.

Strong has the benefit of knowing Notre Dame, although it was a different time when he was here. Met him when he coached DL in South Bend, he's a good coach that commands your respect. There may be better options, but I wouldn't be opposed. He still shares a close relationship with Lou too, brought him in to speak to the team at Texas.

Time to move on from the old days. We need another bright young defensive mind to replace Lea.

I mean it’s not like it’s our choice, but I wouldn’t put this game in him. First quarter we were doing good but stupid mistakes like shanking a gimme FG and dropping a wide open pass deflated our team. Doesn’t help that our backup center is 50/50 on whether he will snap the ball correctly.

Oh well, I am not really, but you cannot escape the feeling that the defense is not locked in.

The D DID give up 40 in the first game AND gave up 24 in the first half of this game. The best SEC teams will be doing even worse to Vandy.

Question. How is Clemson able to keep coordinators forever. Is it just that Venables doesn’t aspire to be a head coach? I don’t understand how he is still there.

To be fair to Lea in this game, his defense has come out strong the 2nd half.

That and they pay him at least comparably to all but the very top Head Coaching gigs.

Beyond the insane salary, I think he's just comfortable competing for NCs every year at Clemson rather than having to rebuild some struggling program.

I want him to just go to Nashville now. No way you can convince me the D wasn't impacted by news of Lea leaving. Hand Joseph/Eslton the keys for the bowl.

Agree. Love Lea but it may be best if he takes off.

Gotta wonder if Venables isn't promised the HC position at Clemson and he's holding out for that. Lotta people have said Alabama is taking Dabo once Saban retires. Gotta figure that happens in the next 5 years probably. Makes more sense making a few million coaching DC at Clemson for a few years as oppose to taking a more lucrative position at a dumpster fire and getting fired.

Yeah he can start tomorrow and stay there.... Keeping him around will not make a lick of difference

It wasn't as if the offense did Lea any favors. it is difficult to hold an opponent when your offense can't stay on the field.

Agree and I’m not blaming him. Playoff dreams are over and he has a new job. May give us a chance to see how our internal guys can prepare the defense.

From what I understand...Venables has stayed at Clemson because guys love working for Dabo, he makes $2 million a year, and has 2 sons on the team.

Also think Bama gave Sark enough incentive to stay at Bama and take over when Saban retires.

Can't WAIT to see what Clemson looks like when Venables leaves.
