The #WhiteSox have acquired minor-league pitcher Thyago Vieira from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for international signing bonus pool money.

He was selected to compete for the World Team at the All-Star Futures Game in Miami, where he threw 0.2 scoreless IP.

Vieira, who currently is rated by @MLBPipeline as the No. 8 Prospect in the Mariners organization, pitched for Team Brazil at the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

A project for Don Cooper. He throws hard. Needs to work on command. Throws triple digits with a sharp slider at 85 MPH.

Looks like Rick Hahn has struck again. I assume this means DiPoto and the Mariners have interest in Shohei Ohtani

Ya looks like he hits 104 on the gun.. I am ok with a project that will prob be a closer type guy..

I haven't seen the set 40 man roster today.. lot of tough decisions to make.

Otani would be smart to go to AL.. Babe Ruth

MLB Pipeline had him 8th in the Mariners system.

They have him 20th in the White Sox system.

Reports that Boston could be eyeing Jose Abreu. Could be another interesting winter for Rick Hahn.

Not bad for $500,000 that the Sox couldn't really use anyways. Two years of options left to see if he can make it in the pen.

The 40 man is currently at 36 with Vieira. That doesn't include Eloy Jimenez or Jake Peter who Hahn mentioned as an under-the-radar prospect, meaning we will probably protect him.

We still have until Monday to make some moves and I think you'll see a couple of the relievers be waived or outrighted and then resigned to a minor league deal with a camp invite.

Boston could use him and apparently Cardinals fans are in love with him. It would take a lot to get us to trade him, but I could see it happening. One Cardinals fan suggested in a poll Carson Kelly (one of the top two catching prospects in the game), Jordan Hicks (who just hit 102.6 mph in the AFL), and Magneuris Sierra for Abreu and 2/3 responded they would do that deal.

There is also talk about Avi with the A's being interested and several other teams being interested if they miss out on Stanton and free agency.

Rosenthal has been tweeting a bit again this morning about Sox with Machado.. Here is his original article last night.. Rick Hahn swinging again?? I don't see making move for him just to have him come and get rid of anderson at SS.. I would think it would be you are our 3B.. Gotta sign him long term if you make this deal before its inked.

I don’t understand his either. Hahn is playing for a few years from now and Machado likely won’t be there. Doesn’t make sense to trade away any of the abundant prospects they have just to probably lose Machado after the season. Unless he thinks he can get a kings ransom for him at the trade deadline?

Better news for the White Sox is that the Giants and Blue Jays have inquired about Avisail Garcia.

The Machado stuff makes very little sense. There is surely more to it.

Abreu front is quiet. Cardinals and Red Sox could kick the tires. Need to see where all the Boras Clients start landing via free agency. Still early.

This is going to be a long year for White Sox fans. They just don’t do the fundamentals well. They are young and it’s painful seeing guys stranded at third with less than two outs

Young team, 8 games into a 162 game season. Yes its a building year, but anyone having big expectations need to pump the breaks and look to 19 and 20 for this team. Big Free Agency year coming up, and they will also build up that pen again.

It's a young squad, but very very talented. I don't see fundamental issues, at least not anything more than just young players learning the pro-game.

This isn't a compete year, simple as that. The Sox are in year 2 of the rebuild and their pen is crap (to put it nicely). As we saw with the Cubs, the rebuild takes generally 2-3 seasons. Sox are likely closer to competing than the Cubs were at this point, due to being able to stock up on assets through the trades of Sale, Q, Eaton and Robertson.

This team will start hitting it's stride when Eloy and King Luis arrive.

Lopez has been really good so far this year, and considering he has the lowest perceived ceiling of the pitching prospects, that's encouraging. Tough to see him lose a 1-0 game only giving up 2 hits and an unearned run.

Rondon looked amazing out of the pen. Light years better than Minaya. If he can be effective along with a healthy Jones. The pen will still be bad, but those two will make things bearable.

Tim Anderson has been a a pleasant surprise. I expected him to bounce back, but he's actually taking walks and has been a terror on the base paths. It was a thing of beauty watching him steal second and third consecutively last week in Toronto. Now only if people could get guys home from third with less than two outs...

Anderson with 4 walks in 8 games, as opposed to 13 in each of his 2 previous seasons is a thing of beauty. That and the stolen bases as you mentioned is fantastic.. I think the 7 spot takes a lot of pressure of him and lets him go out and just make contact. I liked to keep him at 6 or 7.

Ive said since last year, somewhere in this thread I am sure, that Lopez to me would be our 1A or 1B pitcher. He is a bulldogg. If he reels in those walks a little bit he will go from good to great from what he has been showing. He attacks hitters. I just hope he isn't the next in line from Sox pitchers who have great outings and only get 1 run per game from the team. Mind you it was 36 degrees yesterday and it was a 1-0 game. I think the runs are going to come with this team. They have power and speed. Now if can just get that pen to tighten it up.

How about Avi's continued success at the plate. Looks like the guy we traded for, and so far good to see he is on the right track in 18. I think we should extend him now.. Make him attractive to possible future suitors, or keep him under our control for a reasonable contract hopefully.

I loved the way Avi hit last year but the power just wasn't there, and it was disappointing. This year, he's scalding the ball with authority. It really does look like the mini-Miggy we were sold on. Everyone forgets how young he is. Extend him now and let him be part of the rebuild.

here's a good article from the ringer on the Sox rebuild. My only gripe is that it's revisionist history that the city didn't embrace the Sox after 2005. This place was buzzing everywhere that the south siders finally got over the hump. The cell was rocking all of 2006 even though the arms fell apart in the second half and Ozzie managed them out of the playoffs.

Nah, I think that look back on the '05 aftermath was pretty much on point. It wasn't so much the city that forgot, rather the media and everyone outside of Chicago brushed it off as if it never happened. Heck, lots of Cub fans acted as if they were zapped with the neuralyzer from Men In Black.

I recall watching ESPN a few days after the Sox won the world series, and there was a commercial for Sports Illustrated for those championship packages they do around the time a champion is crowned...Only problem was that the commercial was for the RED SOX. Honestly can't recall being so mad at a commercial. I would say that it was an accident, but they are in New England, so somehow I think it was a Red Sux fan who was salty about his team getting their heads caved in by the Sox in the division series.

He's certainly not wrong. The White Sox have always been an overlooked part of the sports story in Chicago. It's a Cub town first and foremost, and the team on the South Side is an afterthought.

Only one thing to do now, rebuild better than the Cubs and dominate better than the Cubs. We've done the first part, but now all that stockpiling has to turn into W's.

If their young guys do well but they suck as a team and lose lots of games, that's win win for the franchise moving forward. If they finish 81-81 and don't make the playoffs, zero is gained for anyone by that.

Avisail Garcia turns 27 in June. Over 50 PA this season and not a single walk drawn yet. He is what he is at this point, isn't he? His value may have peaked last year.

Additionally, and even I found this surprising, Melky Cabrera has not signed anywhere as of this post.

The White Sox Winston Salem minor league is going to be worth following.

The Dash roster is loaded with young talent.. I was looking that over myself.. Basabe is going to be hard to keep off of this team, but where do you play him? LF? CF will be Robert, Jimenez you figure right field. All other guys right now in LF and CF are just place holders right now. Look at how they have been playing down there. Dane Dunning I can't wait to see in this rotation.

From a pitching point of view, they can fill their five man and then turn relievers into everyone else. What a bullpen that will be, too, if all these guys make it.

Carson Fulmer is going to be a back end reliever. Or he's going to have to find a day job. Absolutely zero control. I believe the Cubs took Ian Happ with next pick in that draft. Boston had selected Benetendi with the pick prior. Ouch.

I love the potential that Moncada has, but it is not as a leadoff.. He is a perfect 2, 5 or 6. Personally Yolmer should be the leadoff right now in my opinion. Keep the sport warm until Luis Robert comes up.
2020 Lineup??
Luis Robert - CF
Moncada 2B
Jimenez RF
Abreu DH/1B
Machado 3B
Avi LF
Sheets 1B
Anderson SS
Castillo C

Winston Salem had one hell of a week.

Only 2 hitters are left who have yet to walk and have 50+ PA.

Avisail Garcia: 55
Gary Sanchez: 51
Howie Kendrick: 51 (his only walk is intentional)

no joke!! And Robert hasn't even played yet...

Here’s what is developing with the Dash through 11 games:

Adolfo: .395/.435/.651

Basabe: .372/.426/.605

Booker: .400/.471/.633

Rutherford: .333/.378/.424

Sheets: .324/.419/.432

Cease: 1-1, 1.69 ERA, 4 BB, 12 K

Dunning: 1-0, 0.79 ERA, 2 BB, 16 K

The Winston-Salem Dash just gave the White Sox their best week of baseball since the rebuild began | NBC Sports Chicago

Yep all top of the line prospects.. We will see Dunning up i bet by September, possibly Adolfo.

It has gotten to the point now that Ricky has to change the order up. The offense is abysmal. Moncada had a nice night, but had another 2ks. He has 66 PA with 12 H, 9BB and 28ks. You can't have that for a lead off. He is trying to do to much. Move him to the 2 spot. Also the bonehead fielding and base running plays so far to the season shows me that they really hunkered down on learning this shit. I know its not even 10% into the season but come on, coming out of spring training those fundamentals have to be fresh. I am so sick of seeing the Sox bunt as well.. This year and last. Let these guys swing. If this keeps up for Ricky he may be gone a 2nd time with another Chicago team that has a lot of young talent. I bet you see Omar Vizquel move up through the ranks with some of these prospects, and eventually become a bench coach or 3B coach with the MLB Sox.

Miggy Gonzalez will be on his way out after another 2-3 Kopech starts in AAA. Hes completely done. I wouldn't doubt if you see some other guys come up. Hope Fulmer can have another quality start. If he can progress it will be a pleasant surprise as I thought he was 100% bound for the pen coming out of camp.
