It's not about highlights, it's about breaking down film, throwing mechanics, field vision, etc. If you knew how to breakdown film, you'd know that the concern about Penix has much more to do with mechanics and handedness than injury history. If you cared more about field vision and less about name-calling you'd understand that Fields doesn't possess half the vision of a Williams or Maye.

Who goes through their progressions better, Fields or Williams, or Maye? Do you know? You don't have the first clue. :)
Hey boss, my entire point was that the goofs on Musk X are posting highlights of Caleb Williams hitching his star to the franchise without any valid cause other than "look at these highlights". From last year. Nobody is breaking down film or posting anything about his strengths or abilities. It's last year's throw against UCLA and a bunch of scrambles against ND and Utah. From last year.

I Don't know what that has to do with my ability or lack thereof to break down film or Michael Penix, but I'm not going to stop you from carrying on telling me and everyone else we don't know anything. I already know I'm idiot

Meh, pass on Penix. Penix is like a Ty Detmer. Productive but not quite elite enough skill set.

Is Fields worth the $40M-$50M AAV contract that he will ask for? Is he worth the market value a long-term starting QB demands? That to me is the question that the bears unfortunately need to answer a year early.

Rolling the dice and picking up the 5th year is another option but that's just kicking the can down the road IMO.
Bringing up this previous point because of what Josh Lucas has said across podcasts regarding Fields' agent. It's not surprising, but Lucas mentioned that Fields' agent is not one to accept a team-friendly deal and will maximize every dollar possible.

The Hoge & Jahns pod on January 2nd with Josh Lucas is worth the listen.

It was just you, chief, don't get all Trumpy now. It's pretty easy to find vids breaking him down along with any of the other top QBs in the draft.

I've completely forgotten that they have a DC opening after that bozo resigned. Eberflus was running the defense the rest of the way.

Wondering if that continues or they go and hire a new DC?

It's noon in Chicago and Getsy is still employed.

I'm not sure that they'd fire Getsy immediately when Flus' future is still undecided. If you're gonna get rid of all of them, let them go all at the same time.

I am sort of hoping this is still the case and they all get bounced.

If Eberflus gives up play calling then his case of staying drastically weakens

Don’t you usually want a hire in the wings before you fire your guy? I wouldn’t just fire Willy Nilly

I believe Flus mentioned the other day that the coaching staff would be doing exit interviews with players Monday and Tuesday then he expected to talk to Poles and Warren on Wednesday.

He was hired to be head coach, though. His ability as a defensive coordinator earned him that opportunity, but being the head coach is something far more. If he is the DC going forward and they think it gives them the best chance to win, so be it. The players seem to like him and go out of their way to make it seem as such.

If he keeps DC duties while HC, it makes the case that they'd better have a serious change at OC. An intelligent, veteran presence is going to be required there. If they think that's Luke Getsy....well, alright. DJ Moore didn't exactly endorse Getsy on Sunday. Fields gives the soundbytes because what else is he supposed to do?

Justin Fields has faults of his own, which most people are willing to admit, but the idea that this all changes with a new QB feels like an incredibly short sighted point of view. I don't think Fields has been helped by the fact that he's had this staff overseeing his professional career to this point, regardless of whatever it is they lack around him on the OL and at WR. The fringes of this fan base are thinking that just by plugging in 2022 Caleb Williams or Drake Maye into the team that major issues are solved. I don't see how any Bears fan can believe that.

SIAP.

"Evans’ streak of 1,000-yard seasons is second only to that of Hall of Fame wideout Jerry Rice, who strung together 11 such consecutive years"

Dude will be 31 - I like him as compliment for Moore but you have to expect him to be in decline over those four years. Good pair of receivers for any QB and they have the cash for it. I would think Evans might want a more clear contender and better offense rather than beat his head against the wall in Chicago.

It's pure speculation on the point of the article, a total nothing burger because free agency isn't even for months.

Whatever heavy.com is, they're piggybacking off of something that Schatz predicted behind an ESPN paywall article.

Like @RDU Irish said, Evans is on his last go round and probably wants to get on a team that's ready for a Super Bowl sooner than later. That isn't the Bears.

I could have seen it go either way. The Bears per EPA/play were the best defense in the second half of the season and a large part of that is due to the Montez Sweat trade, but also the coaching paying dividends in the young secondary. You could certainly argue that the blown leads were enough for Flus to lose his job, but it's inarguable that the defense is night and day from 2022.

Overall I'm not really excited, but that could change depending upon how Poles utilizes his assets and hopefully with a smart hire at OC.

Eberflus staying might be good for those in Camp Fields, you think?
We will find out soon enough. I would assume that anyone who will interview for the OC and QB Coach jobs is going to want to know what the hell they plan on doing at QB. Fields has had crap NFL coaching from day one. If they intend to keep him, the alpha dog is going to have the ego to think that he can shape Fields up but also have the ego to think "Yeah, draft a QB and start over. I've got it."

Im not so sure...Fields having to learn another OC's system is a nightmare to think about. Fields has not gotten a fair shot, so adding a new OC is awful for him. A new OC for a new QB makes more sense to me.

If the Bears keeping Fields is dependent on him signing an extension they we may not know for a while.

On one hand, Ryan Pace drafted Justin Fields. Ryan Poles did not.

On the other hand, you can keep Fields and surround him with what you think are better offensive coaches, trade the number one pick and keep going.

I don't know what they're going to do, but it really does feel like Fields is done as a Bear. There is a market for Fields more than likely. Playoffs start this weekend so there is still going to be some time to sort this out while everyone sorts themselves.

Right. So on top of that, the next OC is also going to be under the pressure of keeping Eberflus and his staff employed in addition to trying to fix Fields or keep the pressure off of Williams or Maye.

This feels like a half measure. It also feels like Mike Martz as OC for Lovie's last year.

I think there are going to be more moves.
