Balis couldn't adapt to where Freeman wanted the S&C to go. So he re-signed.
Heistand retired.
Stuckey just wasnt the best fit.

There is no much more to look into other than that.
The Balis thing was on Freeman.
What Freeman wanted him to do was stupid & none of the best S&C coaches would do it.
I still can’t believe he wants to do S&C that way.

I don't think that was what was being said about Stuckey. That was what was being said about Parker when Parker was hired as TE coach. The only thing I remember that people kept repeating about the Stuckey hire was that he killed it during the interview and impressed everyone.
Well something has made me think it for a while apparently because I just went back and looked and I alluded to the same idea way back on post #55 in this thread. 🤷‍♂️

Please share more. This is possibly the first decision he's made that will cause me to have disappointment. Balis proved he was producing strong teams that were capable of enduring a season.

Per friend of a friend, ND was reaching out to at least one potential hire weeks ago (not a WR coach). Given that and the Leonard/Howard QB rumors, it seems like ND's been pretty proactive about things.
Again, they need to be as once the music starts and the players start circling the chairs, ND is usually left idle.... They need to do the recon/vetting early on and then be positioned to strike like an agitated Cobra!

That's what I was thinking.

Using Hartline as an example (we aren't getting him, just using him for illustration purposes), he comes in as co-OC and WRs coach, and Parker retains a co-OC/TEs coach role.

I could get behind that.
I mean Parker is his bud so wouldn't be out of the realm of reality...

Rudolph started as an S&C coach at least Freeman can bounce things of him.

Reaper will be able to elaborate further, and I’m sure this is a vast oversimplification, but from I remember being reported here when Balis resigned - Balis was apparently of an old school S&C methodology and Freeman wanted things a bit more new age.

…I type this as I slog through a 5x5 of my own today.

I'm not one to subscribe to the Driskell gossip train, but the one thing that makes me lean towards believing it is the fact that they chose now to cut ties with Stuckey.

When Freeman took over and had to prep for the Fiesta Bowl, he kept Del and Quinn on for bowl prep and then moved on from them after.

That either tells me that Stuckey wasn't willing to stick around or some receivers were ready to move on if Stuckey was still there.

I think it’s pretty funny how Driskell loved Stuckey before, & talked about how awesome he was all the time.
Freeman lets him go, now Parker sucks.
Freeman keeps Parker, Driskell defends Parker all day.
Blames Stuckey for which WRs played, yet doesn’t acknowledge that the OC (Parker) can overrule Stuckey, & the HC (Freeman) can overrule everyone.
If it was that big of a problem, why didn’t Parker (thus Freeman’s responsibility) or Freeman himself handle it?
Driskell doing Driskell things.
Waiting for him to blame Jeff Quinn for all of this.

Reaper can you elaborate on how he wanted things done?
Freeman had attended a seminar about the future of sports S&C using more science & less of the current methods. It involved more healing, less max exertion, “smarter, not harder” methods.
The problem is, current S&C is science-based, tested, & proven to be very effective.
They have already removed the old barbaric methods of destruction & geared it more towards leaner, better conditioned, properly recovered muscles, focusing on the full mechanics of ligaments, tendons, all tissue, etc…working together.

So all the things Freeman wanted to move forward have already been done, but the rigors & tough-ass workouts were still part of the program. You HAVE to have that. Like in MMA we moved away from daily sparring because it was too much, but we had to keep some sparring, with at least one 100% full go session a week. It’s a must to keep some of the element.

Balis was running an excellent modern S&C program.
Freeman wanted him to adjust to the S&C program he saw at the seminar & Balis was honest & said he couldn’t do that.

Don't have any inside info, but maybe Stuckey ran into some trouble? Normally doesn't MF release a statement when a staff member leaves the program (voluntary or involuntarily)? I know coaches don't always tell the truth at press conferences (Lou didn't either), but seems odd that he doubled down at yesterdays Zoom conference, but makes a move today?

I saw in one article that they reached out to Stuckey & he declined to comment.
So I’m guessing he’s not happy about it.
I don’t think he did anything wrong, but I don’t think it was mutual parting of ways.

I always thought Balis' program was quite modernized. The players definitely maintained some juice throughout the season, and wouldn't wear down by the fourth quarter like we saw his his predecessor, Paul Longo.

There also had been some excellent combine numbers posted by many ND athletes.

Thanks for the information.

It seems Freeman wanted to stay ahead on what is modern when it comes to S&C.

I mean, he's got a month to prepare, should be plenty of time. But...

Are we sure we want Parker working overtime on anything? Seems like he's the kind of guy who's in the less is more category for now.
