Every WR better step up their game because both Gilbert and Williams are good enough to start right away next year

I don't agree with the criticism of Stuckey (or, for that matter, the other assistant coaches). The offensive design is very limiting and making it harder for every position group. Stuckey inherited a mess, significantly upgraded the talent, and has more on the way.

Yeah Stuckey was left with sh*t from Del. The best receivers on the team are freshman that he brought in, including a walk-on freshman, and an undersized converted RB.

Let’s just hope Cam Williams is who we think he is.

But they still arent showing any progress.
Other than Tobias who do you feel has not been coached up? And that’s more of a Tobias thing than a Stuckey thing. I think he has done a pretty damn good job coaching up Tyree who is an undersized receiver and former running back.

Thomas and Colzie have been injured. And Flores and Greathouse are freshman who are improving.

This 100% falls on Del Alexander for lack of talent and on Parker for just sucking.

Let's not put this 100 percent on Del... you have to remember the genius that employed him until the very end ..

Parker has terrible play calls where you have 5 guys all running curls against man like that's not going to work. Colzie is hurt and last year he started to come on, so did Stuckey coach him better last year? Merriweather might just not be that good. He's tall and fast which will get you far in high-school not so much in big time college football.

First INT I felt like the pass rush disrupted the timing. Flores wasn’t even looking and the throw was early and inside. Credit it to the UL DB for good defense in not allowing separation? Our backs didn’t do anything in terms of blitz pickup last night.

It is so hard for me to be critical of Stuckey

The product sucks right now. But the injuries and Delvaughn make it so dang hard to assess properly.
Here’s how you assess… Thomas hasn’t improved, Tobias hasn’t improved, frosh really aren’t ready as one would expect, tyree looks like a rb playing position .. so he’s shown nothing coaching wise yet

We have 3 freshman WR’s who have played this year that’s more than any under Kelly, shit when did Kelly ever have Freshman that played as much as Flores or Greathouse?

Point is valid but we have enough upperclassmen they shouldn’t be playing this much

To answer your question though, Kevin Stephenson

We do? The only upperclassmen are Merriweather who sucks, Tyree who, as you said is a small, converted WR, and Thomas who may still be hurt. Salerno and Colzie are out. And that's about it.

To me the biggest knocks on Stuckey as a coach are Merriweather's lack of development and Styles' regression last year and eventual transfer. Both of those are probably at least as much on the players themselves as any coach. It's too bad Kaleb Smith the Elder didn't work out but that happens sometimes. Flores and Greathouse have been, on balance, a pleasant surprise.

Stuckey isn't perfect but on the list of things I'm worried about right now, he's not that high.

Yeah I meant if all were healthy… the top passing teams really only play 4 maybe 5 wrs regularly

I know he hasn't done much but I think this offense would look a lot better with a healthy Colzie. He started to flash in the last few games of last season and would give Hartman a big target on the outside. I feel like he's been hurt (even though he dressed and played a little after) since about the TSU game.

Del hasn’t been in South Bend in two seasons. I see little to no development in Merriweather, Colzie or Thomas, and Greathouse and Flores were very well coached in HS at nationally superior programs with top notch coaches and seem better prepared than guys who Stuckey has coached for two years.

I don’t see much development in the WR room in the past two years. And frankly neither does any P5 team that continues to load the box to stifle the run because they are confident his receivers can’t get separation. If he can “coach up” Tyree (questionable … he’s just a great athlete driven to succeed) why has his development not shown on any of the other receivers?

ND has far too much raw talent at WR to be so frustratingly mediocre. That’s on Stuckey, not Del. Del sucked at his job — bad recruiter and bad developer. Chanci is a good recruiter and it doesn’t seem like he’s a development upgrade.

Anybody (besides me) think that Tyree should have caught that pass on the 5 yd line in the 3rd Qtr? Looked like he simply misjudged it. Would have made a big difference in how things played out.
Having Tyree, Merriweather and Flores as your top three WRs really hurting us.

Need to get Thomas and Greathouse back to 100% then we can argue if Stuckey is part of the problem or not.

That’s a ball you should catch 95% of the time for a td… great throw, terrible attempt at catch

It was a tough catch angle but he should have caught it. He’s a P5 starting receiver in a big moment of a big game. 🤷🏻‍♂️

If he had that same opportunity again, I bet he lets it fall into the basket, instead of reaching up and stabbing at it

James was ranked higher that either Flores and Greathouse. But all 4 stars.

Merriweather 4* top 100

Styles (not here) Colzie both 4 star top 125

Thomas 3 star

A lot of teams are doing a ton more with a lot less.

May need more. I have a feeling we are going to have a big number of transfers team wide. And I would imagine that this position might be one.
Don't count on the portal too much. The most abundant time for the transfer portal is the Dec-Jan timeframe and top players at all positions move fast... And although we can take grad transfers a lot more easily, we just aren't killing it in that environment where players are signing with new teams many times in a matter of hours after entering the portal. IMO until something changes, ND has to do a great job keeping talented upperclassmen they want to come back and then count on at most getting just a handful of key-position transfers. We can't operate in the portal like most teams do. Hoping this year is not a bleed year exodus of talent
