Here’s the good news:
1. Young guys generally improve and do so quickly. It’s not unthinkable that in a couple weeks Rico Flores could be a lot better than what we saw last night.
2. Greathouse is good, Thomas is good, and Cam Williams is supposed to be a top recruit. Chansi — if he’s still here — will probably have a good room to work with in two years.
3. Yes, it’s hard to get good WRs in the portal because everyone wants them, but ND is also going to present a great opportunity for people moving forward… they key is being willing to pay. Guys like Coleman and Addison command big $$.
4. Mitchell Evans is really showing something and Raridon is supposed to be even better than him when healthy.

Here’s the bad news:
1. Merriweather is not a refined player. Doesn’t show good hands or ball skills, doesn’t show the ability to beat man coverage. So clock is ticking there.
2. Because of Dell… if ND has one more injury they are effectively out of WRs who are ready to play. That’s crazy but true.
3. Parker isn’t doing anything to scheme guys open.
Could Michigan State transfers who go into the portal right now have immediate eligibility??

The only knock on stuckey is the hands of the WR’s. They drop entirely to many balls. Rico dropped a pass that was perfect from Hartman.

And they don’t get open, kinda important

So they can’t get open or catch? I did see them blocking well

I saw a few times they were open however Hartman had already decided where he was going before the ball was snapped.

Unfortunately getting a dynamic guy in the portal is very unlikely.

Dynamic receivers don't generally stick around to be a grad transfer.

And we're not getting dynamic undergrads until ND changes their policy to make it easier for guys to transfer in.
I’m curious about what happened with Dante Cephas? He's contributing at PSU right now and would've been a huge help opening up Duke's defense last night.

But there were others out there we could've gone for this past cycle:

Jamari Thrash who went to Louisville from Georgia State is certainly dynamic. He may not have been a fit, but he was a grad transfer that is now on pace for 1000+ years in back to back seasons.

Malik Washington is tearing it up at UVA right now, he was a Grad Transfer from Northwestern. Has 37 receptions for 556 yards through 5 games. On a very bad Cavaliers team.

Kaden Prather is the starter at WR-Z for Maryland and has nearly 300yds already. Gerry P. recruited him to WVU.

J. Michael Sturdivant is Dante Moore's best target at UCLA and lit it up at Cal as a redshirt Freshman last year. He's a stud that would light it up at ND too if he would've been willing to leave the West Coast. Two good academic schools so far is an added plus for the admissions standpoint.

Nate McCollum went from GT to UNC. Has 220 through three games, including a buck fifty versus a solid Minnesota defense. Plays in the slot, so would've probably pushed Greathouse to another spot, but could've been a contributor for us. Again, high academic guy who knows the ACC and was WR-1 at his previous school.

I don't think you can fault him. 3 WRs were out and Del left him shit (which is on BK).

Rico is our 3rd rated WR in the freshman class and he's our #1 by default.
4 out technically: Greathouse, Colzie, Thomas, and Salerno. All lower body injuries I believe.
Quit the one legged hopping drills, Stuckey! They're not helping!

Whoever the transfer receiver at Florida is apparently wanted to come to ND but couldn’t get in as an undergrad. Jamie straight up said this on Hit and Hustle last week.

Of all the ways NDs rules get in the way of things this not taking transfers unless they are graduates is probably the most painful. I simply don't get it.

Our wrs aren’t even attempting moves to get open, it’s pretty awful.

You can try to blame this on del/Kelly but we’ve had the worst wr play over last 2 years than since maybe 2007?

Stuckey can recruit, but what wr is showing development? With a really good qb. Wrs have not been open the last 2 games despite the defenses focusing on the run. I will blame some of this on Parker

Yeah they aren't open because we don't have those dudes we don't have a guy who's a number 1 shit we don't have a guy who would be a number 2 on a lot of teams

I get your point. Obviously Tyee has improved and the young fella’s he brought in Greathouse and Flores are developing pretty well. But on the other hand the concerns your raise are legit.

Thomas and Tobias are most concerning to me… I thought both would be really good this year

We don't have a senior receiver on this team they have zero guys from 2020 then you have colzie who was highly recruited styles transferred and thomas was a 300 ranked player then all you have the next year is Tobias and then you finally have a big class in 2023 you don't have the numbers some guys don't pan out so when you recruit 1 player in a year it really screws you over

So in a 3 year span you only have 3 receivers left from those classes that's insane

I tried to point that out last year, Long and BK really dropped the ball in offensive skill player recruiting in '19 and '20 classes. The only two guys that really panned out were Mayer and Kyren, the rest transferred or never lived up to potential.
