Having now listened to this, O Malley and Prister kinda did this oh no hurry to make a hire thing and then Sampson basically said well I think they will hire two guys and implied ND knows who they are

So this sounds potentially more imminent that made out to be
Yeah, I just listened too and I'm not sure that's what he was implying. The fact is ND has to hire 2 people anyway because they lost 2 significant pieces of the personnel department - Bowden and Director of Player Personnel Zaire Turner, so he may have just been referring to that reality. It could be that whoever their future GM is might also bring a DPP with him/her.

Who is the recruiting guy at ND, was like #2 to Bowden? I guess ND really likes him. I bet he gets a look.

Wouldn't be shocked if it wasn't like 2 asst GMs 1 for the portal and roster mgmt, and one for recruiting.

In terms of titles, the next guy after Bowden would be Caleb Davis - Director of Recruiting.

Haven't listened, so can't comment on that part, but it makes sense for those two positions to kind of be different silos of the program instead of different levels, like it seems it was.

As they have said on the pod before, it seems like the GM should be more of the money and contracts person. The one who tells Freeman who is worth bidding for and who we should let go. The moneyball person.

The DPP should probably be the chief recruiter. Let that person be the one who is in charge of filling whatever holes Freeman and the GM identify. They can be the one that gets to know recruits and better handle players when they are on campus.

Another question, though, is what the organizational structure will look like. Does the DPP report to the GM or HC? Is the GM fully below the HC or do they report to the AD or associate AD level? Where does scouting go or is it split and further specialized?

Frankly, I don't think I have ever seen as much of a building the plane while flying it situation in sports as there is now with college football.

Seems logical for the DPP to be the chief recruiter and/or the chief recruiter report to the DPP.

It may eventually move to being the norm, but I can't see a HC agreeing to report to a GM instead of the AD. HC's like to have control of their program, especially when their success depends on it.

In depth article on Blanchard and Texas Tech’s portal class

Very clear that it will be a “dream season” to just make the Big 12 Championship. I’m gonna be sick lol. Dude got called up to the big leagues and wants to win a glorified American championship instead

This article was hilarious to me and was written almost exactly how you would expect BSPN to spin what actually happened between ND and Blanchard.

I would not like this one. Iowa has developed players fairly well, but I wouldn't say their roster has been managed successfully.
Yep. Iowa is a solid developmental program but the main job of a GM is talent acquisition/retention and they just don't operate at anywhere near the level we need to in that department. You hire a DC or a S&C coach (not the racist one from a few years ago) from Iowa, sure, but for GM you want someone who has played in the deep end of the pool.

He did the leprechaun dress up at ND.
What’s his encore at SC? He gonna get suited up in a wooden horse costume and several little people gonna come shooting out of his ass?

- The defense will drop 5-10 spots nationally, but create more turnovers.

- Meyer wanted the job, but that wasn’t going to be approved. Ultimately, it would have been Fickell, if Freeman would have been passed over.
Now that it looks like the RB coach is in the fold any update on the GM search?

I don’t see why Urban would want the ND job in 2021 if he passed on it in 2004.

Because it's a much better job in 2021 than it was in 2004, given where the roster was, resources, commitment, etc. And the sport has changed in a way that helps ND, because it is harder for top-recruiting programs to stockpile as much talent.

Notre Dame is aggressively speaking with candidates, but they’re not particularly rushed in coming to a decision.

Names that have been either initially looked at, contacted, vetted or offered, include Malchow, Morgan, Suddes, Dawson, Miller, Pantoni, Thomas, Heuke, and LaFrance. (In addition to Blanchard, of course.)

At this time, Notre Dame is deciding between splitting the department at the top, or going with a single GM. Since the roles are so different between recruiting/portal/NIL, Notre Dame would prefer a split top end.
Is the Thomas…. Austin Thomas?

Has Chad’s love for Lincoln Riley’s “Mickey Mantle balsamic steaks” been addressed yet? I think those two are doing more than “talkin’ ball…”

Would this or both positions (if split) report to MFF?

It sounds like the next DPP will be a more encompassing role moving forward. So that is the two hires, a reimagined GM and a reimagined DPP.

Have a hard time believing we get more turnovers especially with Watts gone
