Why not? In the next 5 years, at least 12/16 teams being the champion once wouldn't surprise me.

He should legitimately believe they have a shot. Of course, nobody cares outside the Big 12.
The beauty of the Big 12 is that almost every program in it has a real shot at winning the conference.
The sadness of the Big 12 is that none of those programs has a real shot of winning a national championship.
But, ya know, if your dream is a first-round CFP bye and then losing to the SEC/B1G runner-up in the quarters, you can probably live that dream at Texas Tech.

“Several sources told FootballScoop that Notre Dame believed it had a deal in place with Blanchard

While Tech's overall counteroffer to Blanchard was said to be more money, sources stressed to FootballScoop that Blanchard's decision to remain with the Red Raiders had far greater depth than any kind of dollar-for-dollar comparison; indeed, it was said to be much more about fit than Notre Dame's initial offer and follow-up counteroffer of more money”

My last update on this:

- Notre Dame has gone above Texas Tech in base, and salary with their final offer. (I’m positive)

- Over the course of 24 hours, he affirmed he was coming, then indicated he didn’t feel he could.

- Communication has continued non-stop.

- He is NOT being given quite the level of control he wants, and Texas Tech affords him. The level of autonomy he’s asked for is simply absurd, and something very few major programs would grant. His level of autonomy requests have increased during this process.

Where it’s at:

The full contract was extended, and there will be no further adjustments.

If he doesn’t sign, that’s it, and the 2 other candidates will be pursued.

I feel Blanchard is generational in potential, but at some point, enough is enough.

The other 2 primary candidates are just as good, they’re just not quite as charismatic.

Regardless of his decision:

There is absolutely nothing more Notre Dame could have done here, and there is no reason to be concerned.

If he signs, wonderful.

If he doesn’t, either of the other 2 are also rock solid hires.

* Also, yes, at multiple points this deal was considered done. (That’s partially why some in the industry spoke as if he was already on staff)
Isn't it a done deal he's staying at TTU? Thanks for the info. Love it.

I bet his family threw a fit about leaving texas

Then why even go through process? Why fly here and interview? It's not like on the back end the family realizes "oh wow we'd live in Indiana huh".

It's obvious so no one needs my anecdote, but I recently had an opportunity to promote but would need to move to PA. The relocation assistance was insanely high, but I didn't even consider it because there's no point in jumping through the hoops when my family and I don't want to uproot.

Any chance you can tell us what conference the other candidates are in?

Sounds like our staff has a problem closing deals just like we had issues closing on recruits we had locked up in 2025 mainly at WR.

Honestly not upset at all about this. I want a home run hire at RB coach. MFMF is not a lazy coach. If you give full control like these clowns want then that's literally saying the coach wants to go the BK route and hit the links and not recruit.

I'm fine with finding a guy like Bowden even that can be the guy behind the scenes but not directing traffic.

Better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all. I'm glad our staff swings for the fences. I would rather have them try and land the best then to say to themselves we can't land that guy and always settle. There are a lot of great candidates out there from what I have read on here. We will get a ND guy whose a great culture fit. I believe in this staff.

It’s going to come out that there was a family situation that came up after he “accepted” the job and made him reprioritize not moving right now. Is what it is.

FWIW, ISD is saying that it doesn't blame Blanchard, ND, or TT for his ultimate decision. No idea what that means, but it does truly sound like it was a unique family situation that will keep him in Lubbock.

ISD will never allow a narrative that ND is behind in the arms race, while other sites/podcasts allude to this often lately. So as a subscriber it's always unclear because ISD will always offer the soft landing.

Sounds like Suddes is the next target but I strongly prefer Brandon Harris. Texas' roster building has completely turned around during his tenure as director of recruiting and GM
