Hell even if he's announced today it's going to be anticlimactic in here. We'll be on to worrying about running backs coach within a minute

Big fish, small pond, low expectations, comfort level. With recruits, this quite often comes back to bite them in the behind, I will be very interested to see how this plays out over the next 3-5 years. He doesn’t *need* the ND job, and there was something that came up that made him want to stay put.

Yeah this would be a mistake on his part of you ask me because who knows how long McGuire has there they haven't won a ton and whoever they bring in next might not be ok with him having full autonomy

I wonder how much Blanchards decision resulted in ND not giving any leeway on offering HS kids money or bringing in undergrad kids

Blanchard Really does seem like a better fit for a school like TT Where scouting 2 and 3 stars matters way more. Schools like ND, need a guy more focused on managing Player personnel then to be their GM imo.

UNC guy had a really strong background in that regard.

Bummer. Would've liked to see him here.

But I trust Freeman to get this one right. The fact that he's turning his focus on the RB coaching search because spring ball is right around the corner gives me confidence that he's not going to rush this, and he'll hire the right guy.

This whole thing screams to me that at some point he accepted the job and then the reality of uprooting his family kicked in so he started looking for some small detail to blow the deal up without having to go back on his word

Agreed. In the post COVID era, people are not brought on campus unless it’s pretty likely they will be offered the job and there’s been an indication they will accept.

Considering his level of control, his head would likely roll before McGuire’s if I was the AD. McGuire is the shake hands, play nice with Texas HS coaches front man.

It’s going to come out that there was a family situation that came up after he “accepted” the job and made him reprioritize not moving right now. Is what it is.

Okay, let's drop an extra nice sized bag on the UNC guy as a "sorry" for having him be our 2nd choice and having to wait so long and then move onto getting a RB coach.

Yes the UNC guy (Suddes) had an excellent resume, including time at Texas and Bama. Is he staying on there? I saw Belichick brought in his own GM from the NFL. I'd just go for him.
