Another thing for the Elston discussion is the question of whether the added money or success would be worth the increased stress. Especially when you have young kids, not having to worry about them hearing people call for your firing or otherwise be angry at you is probably pretty nice. Leaving might maximize his wealth but could also decrease his overall happiness.
Then there is also the aspect of actually getting to know his players. Just from the looks of it from his twitter and even his wife's, they seem to have a good relationship with his position group. Hell, Kurt Hinish filled in for Mike at their daughters' Father-Daughter dance! Maybe Mike likes being able to work more closely with the good young men at ND where if he were a HC somewhere else he wouldn't be able to concentrate on each player as much because of the size of the team as well as the extra responsibilities that come with being a HC.
