At 10-2 with the last two recruiting classes and most of the team returning next year we're at a worse point than we were when we went 4-8 with Brian Kelly? I get we're upset and the coaches need to be better but this is an unserious position.
What in 2026 guarantees any of that sticks? The sport is completely different.

I’ll agree to being a scoche hyperbolic, but in a world where IU can go from zero to natty in two years, we have to expect better.

I just can’t get that upset with Denbrock vs Ash when at the end of the day we ended up with 380 yards and left 6+ pts on the field (CJ fumble / spike and last drive). In a vacuum 30pts / 380 yards is a fine output against this defense, especially in a game with limited possessions. We assume this is a top 15 BYU defense and CJ was shitting his pants.
The thing is though, this just feels like it's lacking context. I just don't think Denbrock has a great feel for the game, at all. He just doesn't have his finger on the pulse. Again, three straight big time plays by our ST and defense and we run the same play three times into a loaded box with NJJ. I don't buy blaming CJ either because you know what? He's a fucking PLAYER and Denbrock is the COACH. If CJ is making bad decisions over and over and and the coach allows it, that becomes a coach problem, not a player problem.

You guys want to see a bright side?

CJ is coming back next year, Walton will be RB 1, and the schedule is charmin.
Won't be any Marcus to the NFL talk either. Keep stacking the talent and they will overcome the coaching.

What happened to Freeman? Guy used to take every slight extremely personally and had a team that played with a chip on their shoulder and preached violence. This felt very much like we were playing a “nameless, faceless opponent”

I am somewhat curious with the Western Michigan and Michigan 1 second fiasco and the NCAA making a statement and essentially making it know what the rules are… and obviously them not followed in this game… will there be any recourse? I’m not saying ND will be given a second back… but these officials and the booth really fucked up… after one of the biggest fuck ups in the history of time keeping. At what point do other changes need to be made? Like getting rid of conference refs altogether… or fining or firing refs? It’s baffling these 2 things happen in the same season.

Agreed. I think that will change with Miami.

MF showed more fight against a midget wrestling coach from New Prairie than he did tonight.
Gonna repost this for posterity and then leave the original bc it deserves all the downvotes or upvotes or whatever it gets. Made me feel better.

MFMF is obviously a good dude, but I think he needs to be more stone cold. Cig is a killer. MF could literally walk down the sideline and make either Denbrock or Ash do something different. They aren’t in the box. Go get on them. He just doesn’t. He makes great faces…but go DO something. Anything.

Such a frustrating night. Legit I never felt like we were going to lose until the possession after Sanders’s INT.

I’d also like to see Carr stop the Peyton Manning routine.

You aren’t that guy, yet.

Run the play that was called and deal with it.

You don’t need to see something and swap the play out, especially if it is a shit play you are swapping into to begin with.

This doesn’t have to be so hard.
Peyton also preformed worst when the lights were brightest, maybe CJ is that guy

Was a very BK type game. Did not feel like we emotionally met the moment at all. That happened last year against Miami but the weirdness of it being a RS Frosh QB's first start made me sort of excuse that. This was not something I was expecting from a Freeman team at this point in a season.

I think our offensive line got beat way too many times. i can’t count how many times im watching a replay seeing someone wiff pathetically on a block. most noteably the damn right guard.
D line didn’t move any needles for me either. looked like they were slow and leaning on people.

Byu energy on D (and scheme) was better all night.

I’m really hoping the illness story floated before game was a real thing or the altitude was just that much of a bitch to deal?!

We better see a different team vs Miami.

Gilbert was tackled down at 6 seconds…alright 5 if you’re being generous on a play they DID REVIEW. They stuck with the on the field 4 seconds left. Seems like they neglected to even consider moving the clock.

IMG_1291.jpeg

Potentially was 2 seconds remaining. And 2 is a lot easier to not miss than 1….

Interested to see the grades, but I thought they were awesome as a unit until the last five minutes.

C.J. Played the worst game of his career. He was unsteady, inaccurate, and threw too many slow, high passes. He’s usually good on that back shoulder fade, but he was awful on those tonight. Then there was the clocking snafu at the end of the first half. That took points off the board. He was terrible.

The play calling was an absolute shit show. Denbrock didn’t have a plan. He was just calling the same few plays over and over and over. The fade didn’t work all night, but he just kept dialing it up. I cannot remember a game where I’ve been more frustrated with the play calling. It was AWFUL.

The run game was grinding them into the ground in the first quarter and we went almost completely away from it. Our OL was pushing them around, but as BYU locked onto our simplistic play calling, they pinned their ears back and started pushing us around.

The defense was better in the second half, but this was not a good game overall for them. But honestly was good enough if the offense could have gotten out of its own way. But wtf is going in with Leonard Moore? He has bad.

We looked totally unprepared from the opening whistle. They gashed us early, then when the D finally settled in, BYU started making mistakes and giving us chances to take control of the game and all we could muster was 6 points. That’s a huge failure.

The final drive was a calamity. We dinked and dunked down the field and again showed zero creativity. Modern college football is full of brilliant, young, innovative offensive minds. We have a dinosaur at offensive coordinator. Freeman has breathed life into the program, but we aren’t breaking through that glass ceiling with a geezer like Denbrock running the offense. They won’t make a move in season, but Denbrock cannot be back next year.

I don’t think we can beat Miami. But who knows. They barely beat a bad FSU team tonight.

I don't know, we haven't seen that guy in a long time. Even those playoff games felt sort of weird and subdued. Sure, he had the little smirk before the PSU game, but we looked like garbage for most of that game too. Maybe he got paid and lost some of the fire.

It also kills me that, we’re kicking a game winning FG if CJ can just spike a god damn football. So much dumb ass stuff happened tonight. Boob going out 1 minute in. Fumbled spike. Getting beat on a double pass across the entire field. Just such a stupid game.

It’s Freeman’s job to watch penalties, the clock or have one of his nerds watch the clock and chew the refs ass out if needed. He seems to enjoy just watching 2 minute drives.
