I think this is the most disappointing aspect of it all. I really thought Freeman would bring passion and fire to the program but we are still walking around out there like out of town salesmen at a business conference while our opponents are playing with their hair on fire.
Maybe Miami beats us, maybe they don't, but I do know they're gonna play with ill intentions while we're out there doing things The Right Way.
Yup.
I'm way too lazy to look it up (and I've had a couple glasses; sue me). But in the 2015 game against Temple, when ND went on the road against what was then a Matt-Rhule-Coached-Top-25-Owls-Program, Deshone Kizer ran the ball in on a long play and did the "bird flap" touchdown celebration.
ND had a film crew follow the team around the week after and showed the film review for that particular play. And Denbrock absolutely LIT INTO Kizer for the celebration. "That's not how we do things at Notre Dame." "That's bush league." Etc. etc.
That's stuck with me for a long, long time. It's indicative of what ND is, and how it approaches games of this magnitude. Football is a game of emotion and fire and contact; and ND constantly seems to not want to have anything to do with that.
There have been exceptions. The playoff run in 2024 was one of them. But ND almost always seems to be on the wrong end of the emotional side of the game (Harbaugh's Stanford teams; Miami 2017; Clemson 2023; Miami 2025) and I'm just tired of it.
