I always think I'm ready to come on here and be irrationally angry after a loss and then I read some of the stupid shit you guys drunkenly post and it sobers me up

Tell me why that’s incorrect? I’ve been around since 2009, brother. Stone cold sober.

After last year and this year with tonight and a hypothetical loss to Miami in this iteration of CFB—why would you trust MF to get us over the top? We’ve got all the blue chip recruits that we didn’t have in 2016. The roster complexion is totally different. It comes down to coaching. And, if your season comes down to two games and you lose both…that’s cause for pretty huge concern.

Anybody with an ounce of competitive spirit doesn't care one lick. ND lost because of their own ineptitude, incompetence and cowardice... The referees just closed the casket after ND dug it's own grave.
That’s just not how sports work dude. It wasn’t a judgment call going against you. There was a second left. Don’t judge those of us who think it’s fucked up we just weren’t allowed one more shot at it.

Interesting and I respect you perspective but I actually think the seasons over. Legitimately over as far as national championship hopes
Whole lot needs to change for it not to be. Take all the last second controversy aside, ND should never have been in a spot to lose. BYU is not that good, especially without LJ Martin. There are about a half dozen other teams I think are better than them. We got absolutely owned for one half. And we were barely better in the other half. As it stands, this is not a team that can be expected to win against the best teams in the country.

Last thing I have is a Freeman section. Because this seems like a Freeman down issue. The personnel rotation in big games is UNSERIOUS. And that is mainly a POSITION COACH decision. But the HC and OC and DC certainly play a role. This has been a thing since Freeman took over though. So it falls on him. I’m not talking play Premer type stuff. I’m talking small little subs. Random plays like Loghan Thomas in on a goal line play. Slot fades to James Flanigan. KVA sometimes but not first drive. Graham rotation. Zackery against Toney last year. Hobbs. Pauling/Greathouse stuff. They pile up. Freeman, Seider, Brown, Ash, Partridge, whoever FIGURE IT THE FUCK OUT because these one little plays add up in every single big game. That is how you go 0 - 3 in one score games last two years.
The personnel usage is a massive issue. The drive in the fourth where Sanders had the pick we had Hughes and Sevillano in the game. BYU barely had the ball in the second half get your 1s in there ready to go.

Nope. ND was outplayed from start to finish today. BYU tried giving it back in the third quarter.

Did ND leave some plays on the field? Yes. Would that have mattered if BYU didn't try to fart the game away? No.
ND outplayed them the 2nd half man. It’s ok to admit that ND should have won this game but gave it away with poor coaching and bad QB play.

Tonight sucked. At least they were number 1 for thirty minutes.

The way some of you guys are reacting to a top 10 loss on the road is hilarious though. The sky is not falling. They played like shit, and the flukiest spike fumble is literally the difference. Things have to change, especially with the coordinators and how quick they are to implement adjustments. And guess what- Freeman has proven they usually do adjust and regroup once that loss hits. I don’t like that it takes a loss to get the team focused. But I’m not panicking until they have a repeat performance against Miami.
Yeah, we haven't won one of those since Obama was campaigning for reelection. 5 years into the Freeman Era, it's not an extraordinary ask to get one. And if we're gonna continually lose them, can we at least try to lose them in different ways?

It's not, though.

BYU muffed a punt, threw a bad pick, and ran a HORRIBLE fake punt deep in their own territory. Take away those self-owns, and they win this game by 2 scores.

ND had no business being the game late. None. The fact that they blew it doesn't make it a moral victory because they should have never been in that position to begin with.

How are those 3 plays you cited less fluky than a spike that CJ couldn’t handle a routine under center snap on?

I think this is the most disappointing aspect of it all. I really thought Freeman would bring passion and fire to the program but we are still walking around out there like out of town salesmen at a business conference while our opponents are playing with their hair on fire.

Maybe Miami beats us, maybe they don't, but I do know they're gonna play with ill intentions while we're out there doing things The Right Way.

Yup.

I'm way too lazy to look it up (and I've had a couple glasses; sue me). But in the 2015 game against Temple, when ND went on the road against what was then a Matt-Rhule-Coached-Top-25-Owls-Program, Deshone Kizer ran the ball in on a long play and did the "bird flap" touchdown celebration.

ND had a film crew follow the team around the week after and showed the film review for that particular play. And Denbrock absolutely LIT INTO Kizer for the celebration. "That's not how we do things at Notre Dame." "That's bush league." Etc. etc.

That's stuck with me for a long, long time. It's indicative of what ND is, and how it approaches games of this magnitude. Football is a game of emotion and fire and contact; and ND constantly seems to not want to have anything to do with that.

There have been exceptions. The playoff run in 2024 was one of them. But ND almost always seems to be on the wrong end of the emotional side of the game (Harbaugh's Stanford teams; Miami 2017; Clemson 2023; Miami 2025) and I'm just tired of it.

I don’t think BYU is awesome, but it’s still a top 10 team (now top 5) on the road. Plenty of very good teams lost to inferior opponents today. It happens. I don’t give them a pass, but until a repeat performance against Miami occurs there’s no reason to jump ship yet
If that Bear shows up for the rest of the season, then this is probably a fringe top 10 team - but the spread was 10.5 on the road for a reason based on half a years of evidence prior to this. Maybe they just finally figured it out against Iowa State and us, but he wasn’t exactly lighting the world on fire this year prior.

I think they probably drop one down the stretch to either Texas Tech or Utah but get in at 11 and 1.

Seeing a lot of “Beat Miami and we’re good”.

My concern, since this has shown we’re not the elite team we thought we were, is that we drop another one even if we beat Miami.

SMU no longer a gimme. There are other routes to 10-2 even if we beat Miami.

I just think for a team whose motto is “Leave No Doubt” they had 59 minutes and 59 seconds to take control of this game and they instead peed down their legs

Teams who leave no doubt don’t rely on officials to get the calls right

Yup. ND spent all offseason acting like the wronged cuck husband out for vengeance. And their first chance at really showing they mean business, they go out with a fucking wet fart of a performance.

People have a right to be upset.

There aren’t that many legit shots at these, and top 10 teams don’t lose at home often - that’s why they’re top 10 teams. It’s sort of an unfair stat to judge off of.

Also - most of those were legit top 10 teams we lost to (UGA, OSU, Miami) - we haven’t had a lot of chances to beat paper tiger top 10 teams. I thought tonight would be that, but guess not. Time will tell what this BYU team really is.

The thing is...it doesn't matter who the opponent is ...BAMA,tOSU,Georgia or the one off "Top 10" BYU, Oklahoma State, or Louisville's we always lose these Top 10 primetime matchups on the road(except '12 OU.)

At 10-2 with the last two recruiting classes and most of the team returning next year we're at a worse point than we were when we went 4-8 with Brian Kelly? I get we're upset and the coaches need to be better but this is an unserious position.

I'm sorry, but if you want to be considered a national championship contender, you have to fucking win some of those games.

Until Carr puts it together against an actual team, I don’t think you can put ND over anyone in the top 10.

He’s 1-3 against teams worth a fuck. And, in his one win, he played like shit.
I’d put us at 10 and make the Miami game count. We lose to Miami then drop us out of the top 12

No one’s saying not to be upset. I’m sitting in the pitch dark on my chair wallowing lol. I just think saying the season is over is way premature. It wasn’t over after NIU. It’s certainly not over now. I leave this game less optimistic about the future, but for now I just gotta hope there’s no continuance against Miami

I don’t disagree that I wish we played better and weren’t even in that position to end the game. We should have ended the game with a methodical drive after the 4th q INT. But that doesn’t negate the fact that it was patently absurd that they just didn’t let us get another play off.

I've been thinking about how, like we got a clock management guy, we should get a personnel management guy. Someone actively keeping track of all the different rotations and who needs to be in for different situations. I get that its kind of the position coach's job, but I think we need someone assisting at the play-calling level to optimize personnel usage.

I’d also like to see Carr stop the Peyton Manning routine.

You aren’t that guy, yet.

Run the play that was called and deal with it.

You don’t need to see something and swap the play out, especially if it is a shit play you are swapping into to begin with.

This doesn’t have to be so hard.

Because the three plays I mentioned involved coaching decisions that seemingly put their team at a disadvantage.

I expect my first round fucking quarterback to be able to kill the clock.
