1. BYU runs a high school style offense. They are basically a very physical version of the late 00’s Boise teams. Defense figured it out, then forgot it did when it mattered near the end. Think Ash got in his head too much and didn’t just use what was working. Driving a Camry is fine if it gets you where you need to go.

2. Carr had probably his worst game. Sailed passes, inexcusable mistake before half, etc.

3. Denbrock let his offense down by showing the creativity of a Jerry Kill coached Minnesota team (play calling after INT showed zero killer instinct, and of course the rest of game was also a mismanaged shit show too). Completely unacceptable day at the office for him in that spot.

4. No QB that wears #47 should be the toast of the town after he plays you. Not a good look to let such a mid player be such a hero. Darian Mensah would have secured his Heisman invite tonight if we played them. I digress, #47 did what he needed to when he needed to.

5. BYU showed up ready to win and did. GGs to them. Sitake is a great coach.

6. The game is on the line. Don’t snap the ball where the QB is hunched over to catch it every single time.

Despite all this:

Other highly regarded teams had much worse losses today.

Still control what happens in January, but there is now absolutely zero room for error. Win out or the whole season is a failure at every level. You can’t talk about LEAVE NO DOUBT, if you create doubt, which they unfortunately did tonight.

Bad loss tonight, but doesn’t carry the same weight as others we have seen, so there’s that. I’d be more worried if the team just folded at half.

Should have let them score before decided to bring the house and had more time to work with. Still had chances, but 4 seconds left for one play after a 1st down...but hey, some us dont know ball.
Letting them score in that scenario (around 2 min left, up by 3, all three timeouts, ball inside the 10) is unequivocally the wrong thing to do.

Bit us in the end because yes, we could have used a bit more time, but defending it retroactively like that is like punting the ball inside the 20 while down one possession with several min to go, giving up a long drive to lose, and then saying you should have gone for it on 4th instead.

On the bright side, ND has a chance to make everything better when they play Miami in a few weeks, but right now thats looking like a bit of a longshot....
Also, there is a much better chance we'll have Carr for another year....

1. Why did it take him a whole half to change anything?
2. In the game defining drive, why did he go away from those changes leading to a bust / 26 yard wide open completion on 2nd & 10.

I'm just so over it. I am so over guys running wide open because we are playing a sorry excuse for "zone" and meanwhile BYU is covering everyone like blankets. Mensah / Toney will absolutely torch that kind of scheme much worse than what we saw tonight.
I absolutely agree with 1 and 2.

I’m just so focused on the offense right now that in some weird way I’m at least sympathetic to the fact that the D did everything they could for two quarters to give the offense a chance to go win it.

I believe the beat has asked ash before about adjustments and i kid you not - he said you make adjustments at halftime not during the play of the first and second quarter. Thats where Golden was great - he made changes on the fly.

Just forgot about Ash bringing the house on the final byu touchdown. Man that was also stupid

Assuming Utah wins tonight, I'm thinking...

#1 Miami
#2 Ohio State
#3 BYU
#4 Georgia
#5 Ole Miss
#6 Texas Tech
#7 Utah
#8 UCLA
#9 Notre Dame
#10 Indiana
#11 Tennessee

Man all Greathouse had to do was run a slant . There was no one in the middle . I’m over the slot fade.

How can you can give up 28 points to that team - without one play of even 30 yards - or a run for more than 6 yards to Bachmeier? Fuck the adjustments were slow and silly.

Well unfortunately for Greathouse our galaxy brain OC only believes in routes to the sideline.

Rest of season realistic wish list

ND plays well and wins out to go 11-1. Home playoff game, that’s fun.

There is not one single team out there that is unbeatable. Georgia lost to Auburn. Indiana is mid. Ohio state may be too. Miami snuck by FSU. The SEC is a jumbled mess. Anything can happen in the playoffs. Because of that, I don’t expect anything this time outside of a home playoff win (if they in fact go 11-1).

CJ comes back

Denbrock rides into the sunset

Freeman hires an innovative mind at OC. Not this stale early 2010s shit

-the guy who called the offensive plays after Sanders' int, have a talk with that guy

-the guy who kept slow TEs in that last drive, have a talk with that guy

-the guy who kept calling endzone jump balls, and the guy not developing "go get it WRs", have a talk with those guys

-the guy who couldn't scheme open any open guys outside of the Faison bust that CJ missed, have a talk with that guy

-the guy who didn't teach CJ how to spike a ball, have a talk with that guy

*CJ is not elite. He's a game manager. Great ambassador, ND guy...cool. Let's get over the baby gloves. If he doesn't want to run with purpose, find someone who does.

*I'm not sure I'm mad at Ash...yet. Guessing he didn't ask Traore to take the night off. Guessing he didn't ask Moore and Shuler to...I don't know what that was...sickness or not fully recovered. Shame on everyone for rushing Moore back if he wasn't ready. However, the zone stuff we still suck at that.

*Still love MFMF, but he allowed our team to lose a fight. Never thought that would ever happen. I know running a CFB has to be hard with the NIL, agents, etc. But if he's allowing (don't know if he is, hopefully not) players to make "business decisions, get them off the team. I don't care who they are.

Hey, you play the game, you might lose. To get out hit, hustled, etc, I can't get over that. Thats gross. Fix it
