We lost more on O than D, yet D was always the issue with this team. That's completely inexcusable

I don't think he's been anywhere 4 years ever. He has always jumped ship rather fast IIRC.

His history....
1995–1996 UCF (LB/ST)
1997 UCF (AHC/DC)
1998–1999 Central Michigan (DC)
2000 Western Illinois (DC/LB)
2001–2004 Georgia (DC/LB)
2005 Jacksonville Jaguars (LB)
2006 Georgia Southern
2007 Atlanta Falcons (LB)
2008–2011 Atlanta Falcons (DC)
2012 Auburn (DC)
2013 New York Jets (LB)
2014 Notre Dame (DC/ILB)
2015-present Notre Dame (DC)

I think he stays until Montogomery graduates and BK is not likely to fire someone after two years. BiG will get his chance to make it right I think. It was also give BK another thing to torment IE with over the off-season. :)

At what point does it fall on the coaches? What does it say to you when our guys blow assignments EVERY FREAKING GAME?

Criticism is warranted for all but let's make sure it's given out evenly.

Why Coney was all of a sudden thrust in there? No clue. Coaches.

Butler with a pathetic tackle attempt. Player.

Shumate with an absolute horrendous angle towards a WR. Player.

Joe Schmidt. No words.

I like the aggressive defense, but we're not coming up with enough big plays in crucial situations. I think we give up a few more big plays than we should too. Either way I prefer an attacking 4-3 as oppose to a 3-4 "bend don't break," if for no other reason than the fact it's difficult to find the right personnel for a 3-4 at the college level. I also think we could/should be utilizing press coverage more often to disrupt passing routes and give our pass rush time to get to the QB. We used it a few times against Pitt and it was effective. We're good at stopping the run when we want to, we just need help in pass defense.

Joe Schmidt played like a walk on this year. Why can't the coaches get anyone else ready?

The turnover was the difference. REDZONE turnover to be fair.

The turnover is tough to be too upset about because it doesn't matter if Kizer doesn't make that greact 60 yard scramble the play before. He got us in position to get a FG and then he lost it.

So, when do you hold the players accountable for not being coachable?

When I coached I was held responsible if a player fvcked up. Bottom line. I always looked at myself and how I was teaching it. If there were continual assignment and technique mistakes with what I was teaching I made a change.

Why is Schmidt in there for prevent D? To make sure the dbs back up far enough?

He has never been coaching the team his son played on thought.

Only way we get a new DC is if BK fires BVG.

If BK is serious about winning, I think he needs to give it some serious thought.

FWIW, I think BVG would make a great analyst.:eek:grin:

Guys look too confused, too often. It's been that way all year. I guess we can blame the players for not grasping the scheme. Or we can blame the coach for not teaching it effectively.

I am leaning towards the coach at this point because it seems systemic.

Nick Saban runs a complex pro defense. Yet he can play freshmen at safety and corner. Probably because he is a better teacher and coach. You can't tell me his players are that much smarter than ND's players.

At what level was this? How many National Championships did you win with what you were teaching?

Well, one thing we are almost certain of............ Saban's kids don't have to worry about distractions like English Composition, Macroeconomics, Chemistry, Sociology, or Theology getting in the way of their football preparation. It's a lot easier to prepare if you don't have to worry about your classes, don't you think?

Division II and I never said I won shit. What does that have to do with anything. It was a successful program and I was never part of a losing season. The head coach I coached for for 12 years held me responsible for my position. If my ILBs didn't know what they were doing we found out why. If players couldn't figure out the scheme, we made it simpler. If a player made the same assignment and/or technique mistakes over and over and we were teaching it correctly, we put in someone else. If you coached and did it differently, good for you. We had accountability as coaches and players. There were many times I took responsibility for my position's poor play and made sure it got better. If you have a problem with that I don't give a crap. I see the same players making the same mistakes over and over for 12 games. Something has to be wrong. If the scheme is too complicated then change it. Sorry. That is how I fell based on my experience.

That is completely true but many of those kids are not nearly as intelligent as the ND players. I am amazed listening to these guys on the Showtime series. Very intelligent young men and no one I would consider a meathead football player.

Jesus.......... slow down there, turbo. My point was that, had you won multiple National Championships with what you were teaching, don't you think that you would have been a little more stubborn that the kids learn how to execute your system? I would be. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't eventually change(was I the only one who noticed that they put Kizer under center in a couple of key short yardage situations tonight? People have been bitching about that for weeks. But now that Kelly made that change, they are just going to ignore it and continue to insist he is too inflexible?) , but I wouldn't dump it just because one kid didn't get it.

No one has ever called me turbo before. Lol. Sorry, I obviously misread what you were saying. I don't have a problem with Kelly.

From my viewpoint it seems like BVG is trying to get the players to fit into his scheme rather than just putting them in the best position to make plays. That bothers me.

You get 3 maybe 4 years top to get your scheme across. It shouldn't take a rocket scientist football iQ to make it work. We have heard time and again say the system is very complex. It is obvious that this elite talent is being held up from playing at full speed or up to it's potential. I hear the pundits refer to NDs front seven as one of the country's best. Maybe on paper but not in the field. Look at some of these guys? Many of them have a chance to play on Sunday and yet BVG allows these later game drives to happen? Gt, Pitt, BC Stanford. He is a joke and Joe Schmidt while a great kid would not start on most DII programs. Let's hope we are done with the Tommy Rees and Joe Schmidt's of CFB as we need 11 top level athletes out there. Rudy was meant to play when a game is out of reach.

Sorry if it offends but will not miss the 5.2 40 speed of JS and the missed tackles.

Cam McDaniel not getting any love?

There seems to be a "character starter" every year. I hope that ends in 2016.

Cam McDaniel was a solid contributor who did well in short-yardage situations. Not sure he belongs in the "physically unable to measure up" category.

Toma was a solid slot player too. I think it's harder on defense as the reliance on your athleticism is more exposed because you're reading and reacting.

I think BVG should get one more year.

I know I'm in the minority, but as a fan, I like stability.

Let's see what he's like with Jaylon coming back and Nyles in the middle.

Then we'll see what's up.

I'm with you on this one JJ. BK isn't going to uproot BVG either after just two seasons. That would be a turn off for outside coaches.

But I just don't think Jaylon is coming back. I'm 100% mentally preparing myself for him to leave. I think BVG will get himself a much more athletic defense to play with and I just don't buy the 'difficulty' aspect that people toss out.

If Nyles tackles like he tackled that defender on the punt return where he got the penalty we'll be fine

If we just had some DBs that could actually locate the ball we would have been fine. Frustrating that his D is all about blitzing and putting guys 1on1 and we don't have the DBs to do it.

I blame Todd Lyght, the CBs have no awareness, they don't turn around and play the ball. I don't know what he is teaching. I was so happy when he left the Eagles last year and the. He ends up at ND and I have to watch this crap again. WRs running free all game.....
