You lost me at SP+

Dumbest metric out there.
After LSU destroyed teams in 2019, try SP+ still had those teams above LSU & that tool who runs it said those teams would win if they played again according to his SP+

OSU finished 1st, AFTER losing to Clemson in the semifinal, above both Clemson & LSU.
SP+ is garbage. So is Bill Connelly.
Ok, we never finished top 5 in FEI either. Not 2012, or both playoff years.

He was a werewolf of London. "His hair was perfect."

I really liked him, but that was relative coming off of the mess Weis made with the defense. His career went off a cliff by going to UConn as HC and then Nebraska at DC. He never recovered. He's 50 years old and is an analyst for his old buddy BK. That's rough, man.

Coach Kelly must keep Diaco as far away from the schematic side of defensive planning as possible. Diaco is a micro-managing clockwork mechanism defensive coach. And he's great at that. LSU on the other hand competes with the biggest boys by having elite athletes who are (with discipline) allowed to go full animal batshit when that moment arises. That is, they are NOT totally predictable as Diaco defenses were.

We saw to our great pain what a masterful strategist planner could do to a great set of defensive players constricted by absolute rigor to a plan. In Manti's great year, we should have at least been able to initiate defensive resistance to that Alabama team, but after the game we found out why not (and it was Diaco's constricted system.)

Alabama had a terrific OLine. Chance Warmack was the first or second best guard in the country, DJ Fluker was the third or fourth best tackle, and Barton Jones was the third best center. Jones was the spokesman for that line. After the game he commented on the ND defense: "They're good because they're simple; but they're simple." He went on to say that everyone on the Alabama line and the RB knew what every ND player was going to do precisely before the snap just by line-up array. No straight-up physical battles really needed to be won (and with guys like Tuitt, Nix, Teo, KLM that would not ALWAYS be an Alabama win) because all they needed to do on most plays was outposition the great players by superior angles. ND was NEVER in the game despite some really top players.

After the game, reporters asked Lou Nix about the game. Lou of course couldn't have known all this. He erupted at the reporter's thought that Alabama's OLine had dominated ND's DLine. "Do you think that Jones dominated ME!!!?" Well Lou, our happy DT warrior, Jones DID. He did it NOT by confronting you, but while you were making the big efforts to penetrate and stonewall, Alabama was running just the slightest other way, and you were always walled off and not an issue for them.

That was Diaco's micro-management rigid clocksystem losing the game. We might have lost anyway, but it would have looked like a ball game with some unpredictability. Kelly cannot let Diaco mess around with his DCs scheme, or LSUs traditional superior area of play will tank.

This is how he got the OLB gig at OU. Lincoln Riley fired Mike Stoops and he went from analyst to OLB Coach. Flash forward five years later and he falls up from analyst yet again at LSU.

Diaco got to UConn when they were not terribly far removed from being a I-AA program. It was going to be an uphill climb.

One of the Bama reporters said after the game that Nix was the only person he saw put Warmack on skates the entire season.

It didn’t matter gameplan. Back then, Alabama’s line players were on HGH and friggin mountains. Eddie roid Lacy etc. same old song and dance some dynasty’s have done.

Even Nueheisel said once he was on the sidelines and he saw Alabama’s size to ND he knew it was over.

Notre Dame could have played their best game of the year and they still would have lost by 2+ TDS. It was men versus boys.

Bama should've had another TD, too. Cooper was wide open and McCarron barely overthrew him in the 2nd quarter.

This is exactly what happened to a T. We had an excellent defense that got exposed for a lack of variability. Bama knew this before the game (the Saban effect), and exposed us big time. Kelly and company weren’t forward thinking enough to think that Sabans crew would be looking at every single game all season to find an edge.

The game was over over in the tunnel. We had the talent to compete. Even though a win may not have been in the cards, a competitive game should’ve been. Just piss poor game planning. With that said, I hope Bobby gets promoted to D Coordinator! 😂

Well, in this scenario, our DL coach is taking a leave of absence for health reasons (an ambulance took him away from the football facilities this past Tuesday). I'm not sure if it was a heart attack or a stroke. That said the shifted some and are plugging in Diaco at OLB and ST.

By the way, the name "Bob Diaco" sounds like the perfect name for a manager for a Midwestern industrial or auto parts supplier.

Regardless of circumstances, he's fallen up now twice.

Love it. Shows they are hot, tired of going up against each other, eager and ready to play.

2/3 of our best players are listed - Nabers and Perkins.

Our 2019 team had prison brawls daily in spring and fall camp. Hopefully, we'll have a similar season - one can wish!

Except it's BK, not coach O. Big difference.

Even Nueheisel said once he was on the sidelines and he saw Alabama’s size to ND he knew it was over.

A couple of weeks before the game, one of the referees that did an Alabama and ND game that year said 'Notre Dame has no idea what's coming at them.' People were talking about it down here. I knew it was over then.

I forget the circumstances, but they pulled that shit last year on us with scheduling Duquesne the week prior. I commend BK for trying.

While not having Masson will hurt (he’s a top 3 player and arguably the best DT in the SEC), we’ve got some very solid talent on the line. Not the end of the world. Losing Nabers or Perkins for this game would be much more detrimental.

I think most posters think this is really a great development because BK doesn’t have to look far for an excuse for the loss to FSU.
