What is FIFY?? We were Top 5 Program w BK
And never anything more! Never realistically COMPETING for a championship, let alone beating a championship caliber team. We are better off in the long run.

It sucks right now and regardless of where the chips fall, it’s not the end of the world.

P.S. FIFY means Fixed It For You,

I dunno. I’d rather be a top five program than whatever this is.
Maybe we will be better off in the long run. I hope so. But I think people were very quick to write off Kelly. He is a very good football coach.

Thanks. Perhaps it’s just me I would rather be a top five team then not ranked. 😳

Yea the Driskell crowd hated Kelly because he didn’t kiss ass. And Kelly complained that ND was not up to the elite programs with the facilities and he was greedy. They point to him losing the big games even though he turned the program around to a Top 5 program. Well one of those elite programs paid $95mm for him and he is gone.

They gleefully brought in Freeman with Zero experience. They don’t like screaming and purple faces but prefer a HC that is likable and stares at the field as his team loses to non ranked teams. Freeman and the Titanic Captain Smith are apt comparisons. “Tommy Rees is doing a Great Job”

Kelly was fine but let's not go nuts, here. There were plenty of bad losses, including at ND Stadium, in his tenure. NW 2014, MSU 2016, and Duke 2016 all come to mind for me. You could add Tulsa, USF, Navy, a bunch of losses to Stanford, etc., etc.

All of this commentary might make more sense if ND had fired Kelly to hire Freeman.

Which version of garbage, ersatz Notre Dame experience did I enjoy more? The one where we found a way to beat Toledo and Ball State, I guess. But the real stuff is dead and gone.

Well that’s the point - many ND fans and so-called analysts wanted Kelly gone and wanted Freeman hired. Many also thought Rees was being held back by awful HC Kelly.

Be careful what you wish for….

Okay. But ND didn't fire Kelly.

And Kelly didn't win a NY6 game at ND in 12 years. Freeman hasn't in 1 year.

This is where I’m at. Give him a shot to get the talent level up and get professionals on the offensive side of the ball.
Freeman hired four of the five offensive coaches.

I'm all for giving him several years as well, to be clear. I think he will learn a lot from this season, and I doubt Rees will be our OC next year. But this notion that Swarbrick and Rees have conspired to take over the offense and turn it to shit with Freeman helpless to do anything seems like wishful thinking.

That’s sort of what happened though, no? With Tommy being retained before Freeman?

I do not think Freeman is blameless at all. Sounds like he had a good working relationship with Tommy and supported giving him full autonomy over the offense. Hopefully a decision he’s willing to change his stance on.

Yes, Rees was announced as staying before they announced hiring Freeman - probably b/c he had an offer on the table from LSU and it just takes longer to hire a head football coach than it does to extend a coordinator - but do you really believe that Freeman wasn't on board with that decision? Really?

The difference is Kelly was an experienced College HC when ND hired him and he made ND better. MF doesn’t look at all confident on the sidelines. Feels like Gerry Faust. Fans hated Purple Face Kelly but being tough on details is how you get the most out of your players.

I don’t see that happening w Freeman.

BK knew what this team would look like in 2022 and left just in time.
Not so sure about that. They don't have a title contending roster but they have a ton of talent and Kelly has won 10 games with worse. I agree with Bored, he would have probably picked up a QB and made Buchner compete. My guess is a Kelly coached ND team would have been throttled by OSU, won five straight ugly games and he'd have them in a position to win ten games again.

He didnt win 10 games against this schedule. Not sayin he would have lost to Marshal or Stanford but I do not believe he would have won 10 regular season games either. This is by far the toughest schedule ND has had in a decade.

I think he would've picked up a grad transfer (JT Daniels, for example) because the QB room was a mess. He did the same thing last year when he brought in Jack Coan. Without Coan, we would've been 7-5 last year.

We are #10 in overall talent. Sucking this much shows Coach Marcus pulled a scam on all of us
He didn't pull a scam on anybody. He sold who he is that's it. There was no scam. This is his first head coaching job. If its anyones fault its Swarbrick thinking he could hire someone with absolutely no Head Coaching experience and very little experience if any managing an offense. With that said go look a Dabos first 5 years. Freeman could easily turn out to be the next great head coach or he could turn out to be the next Ron Zook, amazing recruiter horrible coach. Right now the defense is still playing good and holding opponents under their yearly totals and thats with an offense leaving them out to hang by not possessing the ball at all.

His QB was 7th in the nation in completion % going into the last game…. What more could you want!

The composite talent refers to what players were rated coming out of HS. It appears that Quinn blew quite a few evaluations, particularly among interior OL, 4* WR's like Lenzy and Colzie are either inconsistent or not good enough to get on the field, etc.
