You realize that our defense is #2 in the country behind Bama right? Seems appropriate to make comparisons. OH and we've played real teams all season.

Yeah, fun fact of the day... we've got two DL who are bonafide NFL talents in Louis Nix and Stephon Tuitt. All in all, in our front 7 we have 3 truly bonafide NFL talents and 3 "will get drafted" guys with only one position (WILL... and we're likely to be in nickel almost the whole game with that player benched) where the talent is marginal. That's as good as anyone in the country, Alabama included.

Now, I won't attest that our secondary is anywhere close to Alabama... and honestly that's where we probably get destroyed this week. Our secondary has played well when they don't have coverage breakdowns... but we've basically got one senior responsible for lining everyone up play-to-play. What happens if Oklahoma starts rolling doing the field with quick tempo? Probably a world of pain and a lot of points.

But please, please don't kid yourself that this front 7 which has 3 almost surefire first rounders isn't "SEC caliber."

Athleticism. OU is far more athletic than BYU and probably Stanford on both sides of the ball.

We were comparing defenses in most cases. OU has a much better offense than both Stanford and BYU. We also haven't faced a passing attack like yours yet (Miami isn't anything like OU).

What scares me about ND:
Not being able to run the ball for positive yardage. We are not your typical "throw, throw, throw" spread offense. We are physical--see Trey Millard.

Our MLB Wort getting beat by your TE.

Injuries on OU's DL or OL leading to depleted depth.

A breakout game by one of your RBs or QB.

Come on man! Who has Alabama played? The best team they've played so far this year is Michigan... and ND held Michigan to less than half as many points as Alabama allowed. So if you're going to bad on ND for "local flavor" that "local flavor" also happens to be Alabama's only win of any note. How ironic.

Hahaha where do you gather that! Oklahoma should whip us. OU is the #3 team on Sagarin for a reason and is also a horrible matchup for the type of defense we play. Things that scare me:

1. Tempo of offense.
2. Talent of QB and how quickly the ball usually comes out.
3. Talent of the WRs is leaps and bounds better than anything we've faced so far.
4. Your secondary could shut down our WRs.
5. From what I'm reading, your DL should be very good and now deep with that guy back from suspension, and we have to win in the trenches to even have a shot.

Things that don't scare me:

1. The running game. No one runs on us hyper-effectively and your running is not measurably better than some of the teams we've played.
2. Your linebackers. Seem like good players, not gamebreakers. And we've played against some teams with true gamebreakers.
3. Your OL. They don't seem truly dominant. Just very solid. So they shouldn't be able to bully us.

Agree with all points except the bolded. McGee isn't going to change much. He will add some depth but the guy hasn't played real game snaps since last winter. He has been practicing but I would be shocked if he makes a big impact.

This post is more meant to give analysis on OU for those that haven't watched OU.

The key to this one will be how OU runs the ball. Damien Williams has been a star for OU with over 600 total yards on about 90 touches.

Other key offensive players will be WR Justin Brown who is a very good punt returner. Sterling Shepard and Kenny Stills have also been good WRs. OU basically just got a transfer from Fresno that is very slippery in Jalen Saunders. He's already made some plays, but it is hard to say how implemented he is in the offense after 2 weeks.

Despite the bad run D numbers I believe OU may have turned it around there. Mostly because of the return of Casey Walker and this week Stephen McGee at tackle. King will be OUs best lineman at end.

LBs have been the most inconstant unit on D. Mostly because it's most hyped player in Tom Wort has been bad against the pass and inconsistent overall. There is an emerging young guy in Frank Shannon that has played well the last few games.

DBs are great in coverage, but even better tacklers. Tony Jefferson and Aaron Colvin are probably high round NFL guys if they play like they have. If ND runs, runs, runs like some say look for no. 1 Jefferson to have a huge day as an extra man in the box.

OUs talent level is sky high, what scares me as an OU fan is that the coaching staff comes up with idiotic game plans. But if OU sticks with the run first mentality of the last few games, I like OU in this one. I do have a lot of respect for the Irish this year.

Landry Jones vs an inexperienced secondary if we can't get pressure.

Not sure if serious? OT is played by a totally different set of rules. Also, 3OT is a little different than 1OT. Not to mention a lot of people will tell you that Stanford did in fact score on ND in 1OT.

Not sure if I'm serious?... Please, allow me to clear it up for you: I am completely serious.

You made that statement that anyone who thinks they gave up 53 points is ignorant, when, in fact, regardless of the placement of the ball in OT, that is exactly the number of points given up. There is no asterisk attached to OT points.

A lot of people might tell me that Stanford did, in fact, score on ND in overtime, and they would be incorrect. The most direct method of proof would be to look at the game's box score.

For those who wish to hold onto the erroneous notion that Stanford fell victim to a bad call; whatever helps you sleep at night... The fact remains that - in two consecutive attempts from the 1-foot line - Stanford could not put the ball into the end zone. That is how you go about negating the opportunity for inflated numbers of points in overtime: Play solid defense... If you don't, you run the risk of having 53 or so points run up on you.

ND has no shot in a shoot out type game

My biggest fear is that OU gets a couple quick scores and we get away from the "pound the rock, stop the run" gameplan. Even if OU gets up, I hope that we are patient enough to let our run game control the clock and let our defense do what it does best, cause turnovers.

Let's be honest, until we get significantly better QB play, we are not a scoring offense. We are a time possesion team. I don't mean that as simply a clock thing either (OU fans will say that TOP doesn't matter because they score quick), but rather a possession team. If we finish the game with more possessions (in consequence, this will also be a TOP advantage as well) then we can win this game.

As I keep saying, we have to have the ball longer and create turnovers. I truly believe that we will lose this game is we don't win the turnover margin. The more turnovers we cause, the likelihood of a victory skyrocket. This is Manti's opportunity to go to New York. I hope he takes advantage of it.

I'm not sure it is TOP you need to necessarily worry about as much as number of plays OU gets. OU averages around 90 plays on offense. You probably want that number near 70.

Let me elaborate on this. 4 out of the top 5 teams are currently in the top 25 in TOP currently. Furthermore, out of the 10 undefeated teams left in the BCS top 25, eight of them are in the top 30 in TOP. So it is ridiculous for anyone to say that it doesn't matter.

If we limit them to 70 we will also win the TOP. We run the ball, if we were a pass happy team, then I would understand your point. But for Notre Dame, TOP and amount of plays are not mutually exclusive.

I will take it even further. If we continue to use the same gameplan we have all season, then NO team can beat us without being able to run the ball. If OU wins this week, I guarantee you that it means that they had one of their best RUSHING games of the season, not passing. That... or we simply get away from the style of play that got us to 7-0 in the first place (which is totally plausible).

there isn't a LB going to cover him 1:1....the only way he has been stopped this year has been hanging a safety over...this allows man to man coverage elsewhere but inexperienced qb can't make the reads quick enough to take advantage....even w/ Rees in, he didn't really take advantage either...so im sure BK will be looking for a lot of back shoulder throws on outside to limit ur db's shutting us down and increasing the risk of pass interference

How are you evaluating "first team starters"? It's not like you guys pull your entire defense out every game and you are conveniently knocking off 10 points per game off your average.
