oh...okay so its not set in stone? No board melt down yet? I should hold off and my torches and pitch forks? ...okay.

"Put em down everyone!"

Make a dumb statement....Get a dumb answer. What can I say? I can only work off of what you gave me and it was borderline douchey.... So yes, put down your Barbie pitchfork and LightBright torch and all will be well.

I was only kidding m'man. All in good humor. You didn't give a dumb answer, it was just a response. I think you thought my reply was sarcastically mean and it wasn't. I was just playin' :).
As if 5 games into the season theres a random bowl projection and the whole board goes down.
cheers

Going 10-2 would be great, but I'm expecting at least 1 more loss at least, probably Stanford. At 10-2, winning out the rest of the season, is there a shot to back into a big bowl game? Maybe voters will see that we shot ourselves in the foot against South Florida and Michigan as neither team dominated against us.

If we win out, we're virtually guaranteed a BCS bid.

My main worry is non-AQ teams. Say two BCS teams go to the championship, one as undefeated and another as undefeated as well or 1 loss. Then you have maybe an undefeated Boise State team or some other non-AQ team with 0-1 losses. Do we still have a shot to get in with that scenario /w 2 losses at the beginning of the season? Being that the losses were at the beginning, rather than at the end, that may bode well, but we still have to get over Stanford at the end of the year.

This year, I'm not so sure. It looks like quite a few teams ranked very high right now can/will all finish 10-2 or better.

I'm not an expert on the BCS system, but I think the Bowls have some flexibility with whom they select for at-large bids. A 10-2 ND would bring in way more money than an 11-1 BSU,or a 10-2 TCU.

There's not a lot of history to go on, but the BCS has selected ND every time we've been eligible.

True dat. There is some wiggle room, but it will come at the expense of an 11-1 Oklahoma State type team, creating waves of "controversy." You're right though, if ND is in fact eligible, the first Bowl with a chance will take them, and hopefully it's the Fiesta.

*Loooooong way to go though, beat AF

Have to finish top8 for autobid. Have to finish in top14 to have a shot. Top8 is highly likely with a 10-2 finish. 9-3 doesn't drop us far by losing to Stanford, so we would still be in Top14 range.

ND has a decent amount of ground to make up. They need to make a few statements along the way.

1. A 4 point win over AF won't do it, I think ND needs to dominate this game in every aspect, and win by 15+

2. Keep the ridiculous amount of turnovers out of their game

3. Beat SC solidly, 10+ point win would really help

4. Win the rest of their games by an average of 13 leading to Stanford

5. I think a W over Stanford is the only way ND gets to the BCS. Stanford is good, but I think we can beat them, and I think we will.

It would have helped if USC didn't blow that game against Arizona. They'd be top 20 right now. Hopefully they can win this week and the next, and sneak into the top 25 by the 22nd.

Of course, none of this matters if we don't get by AF, so one game at a time as suggested above.

Looking at Stanford's schedule they only play 2 games, aside from us, where the opponents have any kind of pulse. They play Oregon, which is a good team of course, and USC is the other. It's not hard to get up for one or two games all season, everyone else they'll play all year is of no consequence. Given that this game is at home for them and another night game, it's going to be rough for us. Hopefully our improved offensive and defensive lines will give us a better chance than last year, but it's going to be a nasty game no matter how you slice it.

I believe we have enough games before Stanford to play quite competitively with them.

Does anyone think that Stanford will have a loss before we play, and if so does it make it less impressive IF we beat them?

I think they could lose one of their two games vs. USC/Oregon.

They'll still be a top 15 team if they lose a game as long as it's not a blowout.

It would be so nice to finish 10-2 with a win over a top 5 or 10 team to close out the season. Not that I put much stock in espn, but Lee Corso said the other day that we finish 10-2 and play BSU in the Fiesta Bowl.

The only way Notre Dame is going to a BCS bowl is by winning out, and still then Stanford would have to be a top-10 team with one loss at the very most. It's kind of embarrassing to see fans talking about ways we could get into the BCS at 9-3.

The outting USC has against ASU, makes me feel USC will lose to Stanford. Oregon has not shown much against one top oppenent (LSU) and they were manhandled.

But then again like you said they COULD lose, but as of now I can not see it. Personal opinion anyways. Maybe I just hope they are undefeated when ND plays them, could push them out of the National Championship game.

If we were undefeated and we should be, we would be ranked number 4 right now ahead of Boise and Wisconsin.

I don't know if we would be that high, you can't give much disrespect to Clemson, Wiscy and Stanford. They deserve where they are right now.

Sagarin SoS rankings:
Wiscy- 117th
Stanford- 68th
Clemson- 16th
ND- 5th

In a hypothetical situation where ND has won out, we would absolutely be ranked ahead of all three of those teams.

You know clemson deserves to be ahead of them with thier schedule.

Who wasn't impressed with their win over Troy but that win over Div 1aa Wofford was truly impressive, wasn't it?

Auburn is not the quality of last year. And remind me again who FSU has beaten this year? Oh yeah, Louisiana Monroe and Div 1aa Charleston Southern.

Yes, Clemson whipped up on previously unbeaten VT who has sterling wins over Div 1aa Ap St, ECU, Arkansas STATE, and Marshall. zzzzzzz

Like FSU, VT hasn't beaten anybody.

ND hasn't played the number 1 team but their schedule has been tougher. Sagarin rates it as the 5th toughest, better than a field goal tougher than Clemson's #16 toughest.

^ yes.

Wisco is clearly tough. Possibly the Ducks.....and depending on if you want to count the first 3 or the 4th qtr of the UM game im sure Boise would give our secondary a few fits as well.....

im not conceding a loss to any/many others though.
