Never been a reader and always disliked reading in school, but now that I'm out I've given it a shot. In 2013, I read HP 1-7, the 3 Hunger Games, The Hobbit, and You Herd me.

All great books, HP, Hunger games were my favorite. You Herd Me is an excellent read as well.

Not sure what I'm going to read next. Feel free to share what you've read, what was good, and what to stay away from. I'd highly recommend it even if you don't like Cowerd (hell, I'm on record everywhere with my dislike for him and I loved it).

I recently read I am Legend, which was excellent, much better than the movie, and Clockwork Orange. I am currently reading Atlas Shrugged, but that may not be your cup of tea. If you're looking for something similar to HP or the hunger games books, check out the Percy Jackson series.

Sounds like you should read The Giver. Good teenager book. (Not trying to sound pretentious but the ones you listed are teenager books)

I really enjoy fiction books. You Herd Me is the only non-fic I've ever enjoyed.

1984. My favorite of the more contemporary classics.

It's quite omnipresent in these times.

I've been on a history kick recently, everything from the Civil war to french revolution to 20th century economics.

About to tackle The Great Gatsby for the first time. Everyone I've talked to hates it.

Animal Farm also by Orwell is an amazingly short and sweet classic that reflects political disapproval of Stalinism. It's basically a perfect dystopian novel.

Currently reading Miracles and Massacres by Glen Beck. Disregard that it is written by Glen Beck(I can't stand him personally) because this is a great book.

I've read his first novel, This Side of Paradise. I loved it.

It's not always an easy book to read. But the motifs and symbols that are littered throughout the prose, and how they connect to the overall message, are worth reading it three to fours times, as I have.

Then they aren't smart enough or well read enough to understand the complexities of classic literature.

Lord of the Flies is an absolute classic. The pinnacle of the exploration of human civilization and corrupting power in allegorical form.

It's not always an easy book to read. But the motifs and symbols that are littered throughout the prose, and how they connect to the overall message, are worth reading it three to fours times, as I have.

Indubitably.

Great Gatsby is an amazing read though.

@ Kuehnja

The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien was the novel my English Honors teacher in high school gave to me because she saw my ability to pull the messages out of classic novels. To this day it is one of the only novels that still brings out the emotions in me that only written word can.

Also anything by Richard Wright. Native Son is my favorite.

Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men by Steinback are cannot miss classics.

I also read a lot of King. It, 11/22/1963 (amazing), just finished his newest Doctor Sleep (sequel to The Shining)

Don't get me started, you'll only hate/pooh-pooh me even more.

Look into Tom Robbins. Start with Another Roadside Attraction and work your way to Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates.

It might explain a lot.
