This honestly sounds like the admin simply do not like Davie and tried to create a false media narrative that he had done something awful to get him fired, but then they realized they couldn't without facing legal repercussions.

It also does sound like New Mexico does not give two shits about the football team. The band doesn't even make it to the games? Like WTF. Those kids live for football games. Not to mention I would be surprised that there isn't some kind of legal repercussion for failing to provide scholarship payments to students on time.

Honestly it looks like Davie went to bat for his program regularly and called the admin out for not supporting the team (at a school where it sounds like no one supports them) and that the admin just hated him for it.

That's basically what I gleaned from reading it. Half of the band members were from a nearby community college.

Sounds like Davie should just enjoy that $825K settlement over the next 30 months and be glad he doesn't have to deal with that headache administration anymore.

The whole situation is odd and I am betting it has to do with the suspension he had previously. Essentially, he was "playing nice" and they didn't, so the gloves came off.

Either way, not a good look for New Mexico.

They should probably be grateful they had ol' Boob Davie as long as they did. They had 3 wins in 3 seasons under Mike Locksley. Davie got them back to two bowl games, one 9 win season, and that's about as best as you can expect for New Mexico.

The only way I would commit to them is if it was my only offer and knowing that it would be losing FB, it would be strictly to pay for my degree.

As clarification, Davie was suspended in Feb 2018 over allegations that he physically assaulted players, obstructed a rape investigation and frequently engaged in racist comments.

In a statement at the time, UNM interim president Chaouki Abdallah revealed that the school’s concerns about Davie trace back to spring 2017. UNM’s Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) heard accounts shared by graduating football players that depicted abusive practices in the football program. The OEO then launched an investigation. Two separate investigations reached the same basic conclusion: A number of witnesses portray Davie as bigoted, obstructionist and reckless with player health, but some of those allegations either lacked corroborating evidence or were contradicted by other accounts.

What contributed to Davie's dismissal after these investigations' results of player abuse was probably the suicide of Nahje Flowers, 21, who had been dealing with mental health issues and thoughts of suicide when he was prescribed antidepressants by a school psychiatrist and was instructed to sit out for at least two games. The doctor who examined Flowers was concerned enough to say he shouldn't play but that was overruled by coaching staff. Davie was fired three weeks after Flowers committed suicide with a gun in his dorm room.

His brain at autopsy showed CTE. The family filed a lawsuit yesterday against the school, Davie and the NCAA.
