Does anybody know where we can watch a replay of Coach Kelly on the Thursday Night college football live? Is it online or are they playing it again on espnu or something?

Coach was just on with Kevin Negandhi on SportsCenter. Kevin was very impressive, especially considering Wendi Nix's performance last night. He asked a broad range of informed and intelligent questions, from fixing the turnover problem to ND's independence. And Coach is always good in these kinds of settings, but when he is dealing with someone who is asking decent questions he comes off even better than usual. When someone (Wendi Nix, Colin Cowherd, etc.) is asking you idiotic questions it is hard to give great answers. The best you can do is be composed.

I was out last night and caught BK on Mike & Mike this morning. I didn't realize he was on last night's game. Could someone recap what was said/discussed.

I completely believe that Kelly is a great coach, but some of his reactions were not completely justified. TJ Jones made a mistake in not looking for the ball, but Kelly damn near had a stroke screaming his head off. All I am saying is that if any recruits/parents saw that first game, they could have a negative image of Kelly. I think we can all agree, that is not how he normally carries himself and the more exposure that recruits/parents have with Kelly - the better! When he gave his address when he became the head coach - I was blown away... He said all the right things, seemed calm, cool, and collective. That is the Kelly I want being the face of this football team.

TJ Jones' mom thought it was funny that Kelly was yelling at her son like that. Just like he said on College Football Live last night, paraphrasing, he has relationships with these kids, the interaction isn't just the 30 seconds that the TV cameras want to focus in on. It's down right wrong for football coaches to yell at players, holy shnikes!!! Make sure it never happens again, call the FCC and get a face blur for that guy. Sarcasm ensues.

That is fine if TJ's mom thought it was funny. But there could be other parents out there that do not think it is funny. While Brian pointed out last night that the camera only shows 30 seconds and not the other things that go on during the week. That is the whole point... you are selling an image and when you have a national audience, you have to carry yourself a certain way. Since recruits and parents will form their opinions during the game and not what happens when the camera are not rolling - it is that much more important to sell yourself when the camera are on...

We could always go for a more relaxed coach. One that doesn't like to yell, look passionate, or exercise... oh waittt

Yeah, problem with the world - selling yourself and an image, instead of being who you are. You can sell all you want but BK is a "fire in the belly", get in your @$$ type of coach. It's not going to change. If those parents and their kids don't like it, they obviously won't be wasting BK and his staff's time. Mental toughness is the mark of champions, whether in sport or life in general. If you can't get yelled out for being a bonehead on the football field by your coach, you'll never strap it up and refuse to be denied that first down in crunch time when it's 4th and 1 and the game is on the line. Just because ESPiN makes a big deal about it doesn't mean it's really an issue. All that sh!t is as manufactured as the Kardouchians and Jersey (Open) Sore. Present the ND image on the scoreboard, not in the pop world controlled by such stellar outlets like ESPiN and TMZ. ND is ND, it is the image. Dr. Lou was a maniac on the sidelines with his players, i.e. grabbing/dragging players by the face-mask, screaming obscenities, etc. BK was who he was before ND, and he always reverts back to the same thing when asked about it, "I just have to be more cognizant of the TV cameras". Doesn't mean he's changing anytime soon, and hopefully not. The change of this football program has been his doing. Just like all the other programs he built before.

I do not want one kid or parent involved with the ND football program, that would ever base their decision (or their kid's decision) to play major CFB and pursue a college degree off what they perceive from a media outlet. Thank god, BK and his staff really recruit and don't just wait for the kids to show up in the Bend.

Exactly. Lou even told Kelly (and I'm sure it was partially directed at Wendi Nix too) that he has to be who he is and to not change. The minute you try to change who you are, you aren't the same person who has been successful. Would have liked to see the camera zoomed in on her face when he said that.

For the record, I think Kelly is a great coach and I would not trade him for anyone else. I am merely stating that when it comes to recruiting, colleges have to do everything possible to try and get recruits signed, calling them, hand written letters, facebook, visits, meeting them in person, going to their schools, have the student section chant "We want Nelson" having the Coach Kelly basically booked solid for a media weekend that looks busier than the president running for office. Image is everything, we hold the image of the ND diploma quite high, we tout how beautiful the campus is and how great the facilities are, we moved the national title trophies from being hidden away to right out in the open(according to Urban Meyer from CFL). Image is everything these days - right or wrong - that is the world we live in today...

Those who follow, cannot lead.

I think that saying explains how I feel about this discussion. In no way am I attacking you or trying to prove any "holier than thou" mentality. We just differ in our opinions on the matter. I believe ND is one place that stands for it's self. The head coach represents the program no doubt, but that representation does not have to fall in lock step with what "the world we live in" prescribes. Individuality reigns supreme in the world of major CFB coaching, players and parents respond to such differently. The best coaches are innovators and difference makers, often imitated, seldom duplicated. I believe BK falls into this realm. The fact that it's ND is what made this a big deal. Watch the Saban/McCarron clip from week one on ESPiN, Saban was commended by the commentators not lambasted. It sells ad space and commercials, makes the trolls come out on the message boards. Making waves about BK exploding on the sidelines sells because it's ND, just doesn't have the same ring to it when it's the coach of the Ohio Bobcats.

said he felt after the first two games that if we played "half-way normal" we would be fine and that is starting to show now

we can't sit behind the desk and fall back on tradition. we haven't done anything in 20 years. we have to be out in front to promote our program
