Feeling a little sick to my stomach. For the first time, I am starting to get pissed off at this whole episode. Not because someone is trying to get more money for his efforts, as that is the good old American way. He deserves more money and so do his asst coaches. But doing so in a manner where it can start to jeopardize what was looking like a monumental draft class is angering me. This crap has to stop soon.

Do you think the admin will lower the standards for the football players like rumor has it?

I have absolutely no idea. I tried texting one athletic department guy who usually gives me nuggets and haven't heard back anything. For a couple days now, actually. I dunno if they gag ordered everyone or what but I'm not going to speculate on stuff that I know literally nothing about. It's certainly possible that he's tired of having to turn down kids like Byron Marshall and AQM... though I know recent failed "experiments" with other guys ND took a chance on haven't sat too well with the admin so I'm sure if he was asking for relaxed standards it met some resistance.

Thank you Lax.

I know there's been a bit of discussion...but does anyone think that Kelly would be much of a pro coach? I just see him as an elite college guy. Perhaps I'm just hoping...

Beginning to hope money is the only issue here, and a hasty exit strategy (if that's what this turns out to be) isn't over something bigger that will castrate our already sore gonads when he read about it.

I don't see him eclipsing a Harbaugh or a Bellichick (ms? ;)).

Unless he hires Diaco.

Then it's lights out.

I think he'd fail in the pros much like Saban. He has zero NFL experience and is a program builder more than anything else. In the NFL, the playing field gets leveled and you have to be innovative to get ahead.

Unfortunately, I think this story runs deeper... My personal feelings, of course.

I see him as more of a Spurrier.

If that does occur it doesn't speak well in trying to find the next coach. If Kelly leaves because he thinks he can't get the program to the next level with the current set up, why would another coach worth his salt take it. Do we end up with another Weis? Geez, this isn't getting any prettier.

Yeah, that prognosis is terrifying and has crossed my mind a couple times. Keeping Brian Kelly is the single most important thing that has ever happened for ND... you lose him this week and not only are you going to SCRAMBLE to find another good coach but you take a #1 recruiting class and potentially throw it into turmoil.

I think he would be terrible in the NFL. If I was an NFL team looking for a head coach he would not be one of my first choices.

alright, who is Kelly's replacement? Does dreamy eyes Diaco get the nod? What about Alford? This late in the game i feel like we need someone close to the program involved. truly sad we have to think about this nonsense with a potential #1 class on a silver platter for Kelly.

Minus the strange facial paralysis, of course?

Sort of the "rah rah" successful college coach. Excellent in that situation. An incredible coach of 18-23 year olds. But rubs the adults in the pros the wrong way after a few months. Saban might actually have had a shot after a time, just because of his personality...then again, maybe he's too much of a control freak. Although, Belichick...

No. Not particularly.
Guy's never played or coached a down of NFL ball. He's not a scheme guru or some tremendous in-game play caller. What he's always been best at is developing and motivating 19 year olds, which is very different than running an NFL locker room.
And he's one of about a dozen guys the Eagles are bringing in. If they were that sold on him, you'd think this deal might be done by now.

I'm a Bears fan. If Kelly were to leave (I still lean away from that scenario...I think he stays), I wouldn't want the Bears to hire him.

That said, I'm also just a teacher. Haven't played ball since high school. What the heck do I know?

Let's cross that bridge if/when we get to it.

Unfortunately, I think this story runs deeper... My personal feelings, of course.

When a university forces you to take on the likes of Alabama with one arm tied behind your back, it can be pretty demoralizing. I wonder if he just thinks that the NFL is fair and that everybody is playing by the same rules.

Thank you TP for the "great day to be an Irish fan" tweet this morning. It has been a great day, hell it's been a great week! We got jail sexed in our bowl game, lost a recruit, and it looks like we don't have a head coach. What more could we ask for?

You had my hopes up. I appreciate it.

rofl, jail sexed. That just might catch on. Ive heard *** raped and butt hurt but this might be the funniest.

He's not a scheme guru

You are underestimating him, badly.

or some tremendous in-game play caller.

Agree to disagree. I've thought the in-game adjustments have been great literally from the first game onward. He's not batting 1.000 if that's what you're saying. I'm willing to bet that you've ignored or haven't seen the subtleties of what game plan changes are actually happening.

What he's always been best at is developing and motivating 19 year olds, which is very different than running an NFL locker room.

Hasn't != couldn't

And he's one of about a dozen guys the Eagles are bringing in. If they were that sold on him, you'd think this deal might be done by now.

Those two points are totally unrelated.

Rubber is my man with this thought. I dont want Notre Dame to change one thing in how they operate BUT I do look forward to the day when the Irish have just a bit more artillary and play Alabama in any bowl or regular scheduled game. It was men vs boys/pros vs college guys this last time. We will see we will see. Brian Kelly got a good dose of how the sec operates and now he can plan baby plan. This guy is no quitter.

I completely agree with RedBar here... If BK bolts, it will be Chuck Martin. Just a personal feeling here.
